Normal life is back

I don't know about you but life where I am is pretty much back to normal, masks in shops falling rapidly. People having a good time. Covid barely gets mentioned now. (and yes I know people are still catching it and a tiny proportion will die)

It feels great. So what happened to the 200,000 cases a day doom scenario peddlers on here? They seem rather quiet.......

@lannistunut

I think everyone who was on Brexit threads can recall how arsey they were. Covid threads are similar.
I didn't get involved in Brexit threads. What is worrying on the Covid threads are people who have obvious personal agendas just banging on and on, day after day. I wouldn't describe it as 'arsey' more tedious and relentless.

I'd take a punt and say tory voting anti immigrant brexiteirs are the keenest on lifting all restrictions and wanted them lifted long ago or not even imposed.

Step forward the Covid Recovery Group, headed by the same tory MPs that gave us brexit.

I suspect there are more than a few supporters on MN

Shame really, because there is middle ground.

lannistunut · 14/08/2021 17:24

I think everyone on a thread is putting their personal POV. I usually say very similar things, so do all the other repeat posters I see. Is that 'an agenda'? Positive posters have just as much of an agenda as negative posters.

Every single poster on MN has an agenda or they wouldn't post, inc you.
There is a hide function and one can even not read posts or threads and scroll on... amazing really - all this tech!

I think when a poster regularly turns up to just bash away with the same point all the time it's going to make people wonder what the point is.

I have loads of topics hidden. I use hide thread all the time.Tech is indeed, amazing. Also I can comment on whatever threads I like. Shock I have wondered about hiding this topic but I don't want to. As for an agenda-not that I'm aware of.
lannistunut · 14/08/2021 17:32

@Sparklingbrook I think the point is that is what they believe, and they are entitled to say it. They may yet be right, about variants etc., we none of us know what is coming next.

I guess so. I don't know why it matters so much about being 'right' though. It's just a chat forum on a large parenting website where everyone is just passing the time of day really.
You are right though, nobody has a crystal ball. Everyone is just trying to get through this as best they can.

MarshaBradyo · 14/08/2021 17:51

I voted remain but I’m very glad restrictions are lifted so I don’t agree with this summary in pp.

lannistunut · 14/08/2021 17:57

Everyone is just trying to get through this as best they can. yes to this @Sparklingbrook

I can't wait for it to be properly over, as in - do you remember when we all had to isolate etc etc.

Sparklingbrook · 14/08/2021 18:01

Yes, I want that too @lannistunut, and the Coronavirus topic will be tumbleweed. And we'll be 'do you remember the bunfights on here about Coronavirus back in 2021, it even had it's own topic'.

MarshaBradyo · 14/08/2021 18:02

After reading another thread I’d go with not ever having ‘do you think we’ll lockdown at Christmas / whenever’ ever again Grin

Mmm. I think that MNHQ should step in and make that one long running thread to streamline things a bit!
MarshaBradyo · 14/08/2021 18:05

Ha yes

People can bump it and say lockdown today?

No

No etc

Sparklingbrook · 14/08/2021 18:07

Yes @MarshaBradyo, save starting a new thread every other day. Grin

'Lockdown today?'
Everyone -'Not today'
Great-I'm off down the shops...

MarshaBradyo · 14/08/2021 18:08

Exactly Grin

I'm currently in Cornwall. It's not back to normal here in some ways.

Most hotels and restaurants still expect you to wear masks.
The hotel/spa pools are restricted access. You have to pre-book time slots for using the pool and the number allowed in is very small.
You have to pre-book most restaurants and indoor attractions.
There are still hand sanitizers and social distancing signs up everywhere.

Although it felt like everyone I'd heard of was holidaying in Cornwall the actual indoor places aren't busy once in as everywhere is pretty much restricted numbers and pre-booked only.

Though the other side of the coast there is a festival going on with 50000+ people at, so suspect that feels more like normal.

Abraxan · 14/08/2021 18:15

@Bobholll

Why won’t school be normal in September *@Chillychangchoo* ? Bubbles are gone for us, we are allowed back in the building, all kids start school at the same time, close contact isolation is gone. It might change later in winter I guess but I think it’ll be really normal again in September at least..
My school isn't back to normal in September, in line with the local authority advise and guidance. We will still have year group bubbles, though not class ones so much. Lunch will still be in classrooms for most classes, and it will still be grab bags rather than fully hot meals, whilst ever it is class based. Parents still won't be invited inside the building to the extent they were previously. Ventilation etc is still expected. Still a number of things that won't be back to normal at least for the autumn term. After that it depends on the LEA for us.
Abraxan · 14/08/2021 18:27

@Quartz2208

Do YouGov still give you £50 for a certain number of polls - I got about £100 ages ago from and by the end I was just ticking boxes just to get through them to get my money!
They do but I do every survey sent to me pretty much and I'm still less than half way after about 3-4 years. Got one £50 several years back but the frequency of surveys and number of points for each one is massively reduced now.
mum2jakie · 14/08/2021 21:52

I've been doing YouGov surveys for years too and am still a long way off the £50 payout!
