I think you live in a different London than I do @TheSunIsStillShining; I've never known anyone to just put up with rats and mice in their home. Owners and landlords are legally responsible for dealing with pests under the 1949 Prevention of Damage by Pests Act. There are loads of mice in old parts of the city where they can easily get between the terraced buildings; offices around Holborn for example, but there are constant traps and pest controllers visit multiple times per year.

Wheretoeattweenandteen · 24/08/2021 07:37

The sun that's interesting, it should be the same hate really, we are in terrace housing and always have rats but it's only me it seems who pays the rat man to come in and put poison down each year.

Piggywaspushed · 24/08/2021 07:41

I was just reading a Guardian article and it said this :

McGuire had had her second vaccine at the beginning of June, and initially mistook her Covid infection for a bout of food poisoning. “Test and trace then confirmed that vomiting is also a symptom of Covid, in addition to brain fog, a cough, headaches and feeling tired, which I also experienced. It wasn’t nice.”

which certianly fits for me.

Why on earth aren't the government being more 'open' (for want of abetter word) about the Delta symptoms? I simply can't understand why, unless you fib , you can't book a PCR test if you are vomiting , or fatigued, or have a sudden terrible blocked/runny nose , all now catalogued first signs. The loss of smell and taste was added, is a definite symptom, but is also generally a late one, rather than an early warning. I know all of them are symptoms of other things, but then so are the 3 'allowable' ones...

Whole article if interesting:
www.theguardian.com/world/2021/aug/23/what-does-getting-covid-feel-like-for-the-fully-vaccinated

Piggywaspushed · 24/08/2021 07:44

And to briefly come back to Boardmasters, there is a breakdown here of local vs not local :

Health officials said 4,700 people who have tested positive for coronavirus confirmed they had attended the festival in Newquay or had connections to it. About three-quarters of them are aged 16-21 and about 800 live in the county

MagpieMaggie · 24/08/2021 07:45

@MRex it’s one thing for it to be up to the individual to decide whether to trap them and another to have the legal duty mentioned. Plus trapping them inside is only dealing with a small part of the problem. I’m glad I don’t live somewhere where I have to fill my house with chemicals four times a year but it would reduce pest numbers.

MRex · 24/08/2021 07:49

I can see the point in not including fatigue, many of us live with conditions that cause fatigue and can't test every day. Perhaps new fatigue. No reason why vomiting shouldn't.be included though. Have you thought about emailing Chris Whitty to ask him @Piggywaspushed? You've had covid, so you can speak from personal experience. His email address is here: www.uclh.nhs.uk/our-services/find-consultant/professor-chris-whitty.

Piggywaspushed · 24/08/2021 07:57

Oh, that's genuinely exciting!

I will! Nothing else to do...

I agree about the fatigue, except that some people are never fatigued so if it was unusual it needs investigation (eg anaemia) so ruling out Covid would be a start.

Piggywaspushed · 24/08/2021 08:00

Re mice and rats. I don't live in London,as we know and had LOADS of mice in my old house, next to a field. Overrun. Cat just slept in the same cupboard as them .

In my new house, more feisty male cat catches the occasional rat and lots of mice. (and once squirrel : that was horrific) They are everywhere and I can't say me screaming at dead rats on my doormat is me tolerating them!

TheSunIsStillShining · 24/08/2021 08:14

Mice is the typical problem that you can hardly solve on your own. It needs a collective and long effort to eradicate from a living environment. Especially if you live in a block of flats and not a detached house.

re:cat. We have spiders come in quite often. Our cat's reaction: sat down in front of the spider and watched it with interest. Wanted to play with it. I don't want to know what she would (rather not) do with a mouse :)

pussycatlickinglollyices · 24/08/2021 09:38

half a mouse is worse than a whole one...especially if it's been peeled.
😺

borntobequiet · 24/08/2021 10:14

vomiting is also a symptom of Covid, in addition to brain fog, a cough, headaches and feeling tired

My DIL’s symptoms too - double vaccinated, very fit and healthy, picked up on LFT and PCR when just home after an activity holiday, mostly in the open air, in West Wales.
She was really quite ill for two weeks. (DS and DGC x2 tested negative throughout.)

borntobequiet · 24/08/2021 10:16

While on a derail I’ll add that DGC and I spent an interesting half hour fairly recently watching young rats playing in a North London park. Their nest was among some overgrown rose bushes and they were really quite Disneyesque.

JanglyBeads · 24/08/2021 16:13

I posted a BBC article w few days about about 50 (? might have been more, can’t remember)) Covid cases linked to Boardmasters in the Swansea Bay area, so it’s obviously being collated around the whole of GB.

CaptainMerica · 24/08/2021 16:21

And for anyone not scratching their heads yet - my DS's nursery is very relaxed about head lice. My horror, when they instigated "hairdressing" role play in the 2yo -3yo room mid outbreak was met with total indifference.

I see Nicola Sturgeon is signposting future reintroduction of restrictions. Highest ever number of cases today in scotland, but it sounds like it's mainly 18yo - 25yos.

boys3 · 24/08/2021 16:31

Today's spec date graphic for England. Decent drop for yesterday as compared that reported a week ago for Monday 17th Aug. The first day's reporting can be deceptive so will be interesting to see how that plays through tomorrow and Thursday.

They are saying way more than 50 now. Was in The Guardian article.

CatAlice · 24/08/2021 16:35

piggy
I've been mulling over why they don't update the symptom list for test. I and everyone I know started with headache. Yes all the other symptoms including vomiting came later but not until probably 6 days post exposure. I lied to book pcr after positive flow test.

They must want to suppress the numbers testing. There is so much evidence on zoe for example that Delta has different initial symptoms.

wintertravel1980 · 24/08/2021 16:35

In my personal opinion, Nicola Sturgeon has done a pretty unwise thing by removing restrictions so close to the start of the school year. She is trying very hard to come across as "different/more cautious" than Boris but many of her actions (from closing "click and collect" in winter to delaying the "freedom day) do very little to slow down / reduce the impact of the pandemic.

If Scotland follows the trajectory of England's highly vaccinated LAs with relatively low level of acquired immunity (e.g. Sedgemoor), daily cases will exceed 5,500-6,000 before they start falling.

Piggywaspushed · 24/08/2021 16:45

I am not sure why they wouldn't want people to test ( that did seem true last September but I thought we had moved on) but there is definitely something odd about the symptoms. Especially as, when you speak to T and T, they specifically rattle off more.

MRex · 24/08/2021 16:53

It used to be that they said the vast majority had additional symptoms, but over 90% had them accompanied by one of the key 3. The reasoning for not including non-specific symptoms like headache on their own way that it wouldn't bring in many additional cases. It may be that has changed with Delta; certainly there seems to be more vomiting and everyone I know who's had it while vaccinated had stuffy nose rather than loss of smell/ taste, while only unvaccinated / kids seem to still have the fever and cough. It would be useful to see analysis on the symptoms taken all together.

Piggywaspushed · 24/08/2021 17:01

Yes, Zoe is working in it and there was a new rider published. Cough was quite far down , if I remember.

Piggywaspushed · 24/08/2021 17:02

Order, obviously!

boys3 · 24/08/2021 17:13

that spec date for yesterday as compared with last Monday, by English region. Only one marginally up (Yorks and Humber), the rest down .
