First week on week drop in a long time today which is great news. Cases certainly were not rising massively over the past 2 weeks so fingers crossed were just in the plateu and we will see the gradual decline we were all hoping for. I expect schools going back which produce an uptick again but if we can keep cases below 30k I think that would be good.

Today's cases spec date graphic for England; all in all pretty flat.

Quick graphic showing current rate per 100,000 position (x-axis, based on three day lag); and the absolute change as compared with the prior 7 day period. As such:

Hull current highest rate at just over 600 per 100,000; an increase on a week ago, but not a huge jump. For context the mid July peak saw the highest council rate closer to 1600 per 100,000

Lincoln still relatively high but has dropped by almost 200 per 100,000 as compared to a week ago.

Sedgemoor on the other hand up by over 250 per 100,000 in a week.

Overall 200 councils with a rate that has increased (in the main not by that much) and 112 that have seen a fall, again most not by huge amounts.

Thanks, boys3.

I have mentioned several times that I really like the specimen date graphs because they give the most up to date information on what is happening to the cases.

All the official sources (e.g. 7-day prevalence on the covid dashboard) are at least 4 days out of date. Thursday PHE reports, ONS study and React are 10-14 days out of day. When the situation is changing fast (as it does now), it is useful to see the real time data.

boys3 · 15/08/2021 17:40

Then looking at regions no huge movements up or down; and all a lot closer than a month or so back.

Outer London lowest rate at just over 260 per 100,000, and with a very slight decline on the week.

Yorks and Humber highest at just under 370 per 100,000; also with a very slight fall on the week; and only just over 100 per 100,000 between it and the lowest region I've obviously split London given its population before anyone jumps on that

No great upward or downwards shifts as compared with a week ago as the y axis, set between 25 and -25 per 100,000 shows.

Talking of London therefore graphic for just the outer boroughs; fairly tightly clustered; no huge week on week changes; a majority showing a small fall as compared with a week ago.

Conversely most Inner London boroughs showed an increase on the previous week, but none by any great amount. Biggest upward move is Newham going from 284 to 317 per 100,000.

Hoping that piggy is now well down the recovery road East of England UTLAs. Peterborough something of an outlier; no great movement for the others.

Sticking in the East of England Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk

Good week on week fall in Norwich and also Cambridge and Ipswich, although the latter already has a relatively low rate.

Thanks boys! Very kind of you. This is the first day I have felt a bit 'better' (ie not totally exhausted). Totally lost my sense of smell, though, which is most disconcerting...

MRex · 15/08/2021 19:28

Good to hear @Piggywaspushed. You can do smell training, there's info here that my friend and BIL used: abscent.org/covid-19/covid-19-information.

Piggywaspushed · 15/08/2021 19:30

I may have to look into this if it doesn't return soon! DS also can't smell so we are in an odourless world together.

boys3 · 15/08/2021 19:55

continuing with the graphics and linking to the odour theme muck spreading will be underway soon. As such East of England Norfolk and Suffolk

It's sad to see certain areas who've struggled through high cases throughout remaining among the higher case areas in those charts. It's the typical mix of low vaccine uptake, more deprived communities, high density housing... I thought some were dropping and felt a bit too optimistic. I still think we're on a nice wobbly slope down for summer, but I'm more worried than I was about winter.
