Masks reducing where you are

Are the number of people wearing masks where you are gradually reducing since "freedom day"?

It's been less than 2 weeks, but already noticing more and more people going maskless. I tend to go to the same shops at roughly the same times, first time I went on 19th vast majority still wearing masks. Been a few times since then and more and more without masks. This area is fairly low infection rates and pretty high vaccination rate.

Wondering if the reduction of cases is helping those who were wavering before deciding to ditch it.

Generally most people still wearing them here.

Twickerhun · 28/07/2021 20:17

Not here. It’s almost higher rates than pre rule change….

throttlebottom · 28/07/2021 20:18

Lots wearing them here, at work and shops.

Iknowtheanswer · 28/07/2021 20:18

It's definitely reducing here. 50/50 in some shops.

MarcelineMissouri · 28/07/2021 20:19

We went bowling today, only the staff were wearing masks, I didn’t see anyone else wearing them. You could see people coming in wearing one and then taking it off once they’d had a quick look around and seen what others were doing.
In our local Sainsbury’s where I go most regularly I agree - most people are still wearing masks but it is definitely decreasing.

blahblahblah321 · 28/07/2021 20:19

As the days are going by, I feel more and more people seem to be giving up masks - I'd still say the majority are wearing them though

DinosaurDiana · 28/07/2021 20:19

I was in a small supermarket today and it was the young men, in working clothes, popping in for their lunch that weren’t wearing masks.
Everyone else was.
I don’t care, two double jabbed people I work with have tested positive in the last 7 days, so I’m wearing mine.

Iknowtheanswer · 28/07/2021 20:20

And, as an asthmatic who didn't want to make a thing about it, I'm actually relieved I can ditch the mask when I'm struggling to breath. It's hard enough at work, having to leave meetings to use my inhaler.

SpacePotato · 28/07/2021 20:21

I'm actually surprised how many people are still wearing them.

XenoBitch · 28/07/2021 20:22

I have not been in shops really, but still see people wearing them alone out in the open air in parks.

Norugratsatall · 28/07/2021 20:25

Was in M&S yesterday - about 60/40 in favour of those wearing them. In other small cramped shops such as Paperchase, it was 100% compliance.

shivermetimbers77 · 28/07/2021 20:25

I’m currently in the Isle of Wight and almost nobody here seems to wear one, particularly not people under 30.

nutellamagnet · 28/07/2021 20:26

I'm at Center Parcs right now. Maybe 10% of people are wearing masks, maybe less as the week goes on.

Tittyfilarious81 · 28/07/2021 20:27

Where I am I'd say 90% of people have ditched masks now

actiongirl1978 · 28/07/2021 20:33

Went to a West End show today.

% Wearing/not wearing:

Train 50/50, tube 90/10, theatre 30/70

I took mine off while watching the show, though wore it when people moving around in the interval and going to the loo etc. Not sure what difference it will have made as everyone was up and singing at the end, no masks!

Tiredanawfullot · 28/07/2021 20:39

It is reducing but still most people wearing them. I went into a car garage today and didn’t wear one then stuck one on when I saw someone else come in…only to realise she wasn’t wearing one!

RoseMartha · 28/07/2021 20:43

Most people wearing them here.

nordica · 28/07/2021 20:47

I'm in London and lots still wearing them on public transport and shops.

Seems to be mostly younger people not wearing them, especially young men and older teenage boys. Yesterday there was a young maskless guy on the train; he decided to sit close to me even though there was plenty of space and kept sniffling all journey with no mask on. Angry

woodfort · 28/07/2021 20:48

DH and I, despite obviously in the same place, have very different impressions on whether people are still wearing masks and to what extent.

He does the commute via train/ tube, tends to go out at peak times and to places where other commuters go (eg 6am gym or bars in the City etc). He says almost everyone is wearing a mask.
I am mostly out at children’s places and taking trains at random times. I don’t see many masks at all. At soft play staff nor parents are wearing them at all for instance.

GlassOfPimms · 28/07/2021 20:51

More still wearing them than not in my local town. Seems to be a complete mixture of who is wearing them and who isn't!

Numbers are high here and I have an unvaccinated CEV disabled child so I will continue to wear one personally.

CathyorClaire · 28/07/2021 20:53

Went charity shop shopping for the first time since they weren't mandatory yesterday. At least 90% were still sporting them. The only difference seemed to be everyone was allowed in at the same time.

robinfeeder · 28/07/2021 20:59

So seems a fairly mixed bag then. I don't use public transport so can't comment on that, but definitely the shops I've been to most (M&S food, Sainsburys, local small Tesco) it's been a gradual decrease.

Although it seems to be higher compliance in M&S (probably about 90%) and about 50% the other day in the small Tesco. I wonder if smaller places like corner shops and petrol stations will get more maskless as people think, oh I'm popping in for a minute, it'll be fine.

Locally almost everyone is still wearing them.
However I was at a large tourist attraction today, and felt nervous for the first time since the start of the pandemic. The place was mostly outdoors and felt fine, lots of people in masks when the had to go indoors, until the gift shop which was packed, with hardly any masks in sight. It made me feel very uncomfortable which I'm not used to, normally I'm pretty blasé.

chellingham · 28/07/2021 21:19

Hardly any in my area. Was quite a high number last week but only really old people now

MarshaBradyo · 28/07/2021 21:21

Not here on train or local shop
Maybe a few in supermarket but still really high 85 to 90% I reckon
