DH has gone out for a friends birthday tonight.
He’s gone to Newcastle. It’s the first night out he’s had since our son was born 18 months ago.

I haven’t gone as I’m not ready to leave our son over night.

I have so far seen several snap chat updates from friends. They are in packed bars, dancing, hugging, singing.

Im so disappointed in him. I’ve tried to hard to avoid catching Covid and I really feel now like
DH is going to bring it home to me and our son!!

@Neverrains

You had friends though, yes?
Of course.

But so much time and money was spent on buses to and from where we happened to be meeting up.

Not saying that all interactions should be remote, but they allow for people without said time and money to be a part of things.

Neverrains · 31/07/2021 12:16

Entirely different scenario from teens being banned for months at a time from having contact with their friends and extended family though.

@NannyAndJohn

Good God. So you actually believe that once someone’s offspring hits 18, they should move out to protect their family from Covid?
I’ve heard it all now.
Also, Nanny…I get the impression that you’re happy to never ever have real human interaction again for the rest of your life?
Are you actually for real?

RosaMoline · 31/07/2021 12:29

Actually, the more I think about it, this particular poster must be on a wind up.

If they happen to be behaving recklessly (as was the case in the PP's example), then that's the best way around it.

Absolutely not. I'm just saying that we still need to be cautious about coming into contact with others and take advantage of our technological advances.

Neverrains · 31/07/2021 12:42

Hugging friends as a teenager isn’t ‘behaving recklessly’. It’s normal, human interaction, necessary for development.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 31/07/2021 12:47

@NannyAndJohn you should be in Tokyo representing us in the doom and gloom Olympics. Your views are absolutely ludicrous.

Bryonyshcmyony · 31/07/2021 12:49

Well it's very interesting that people like @NannyAndJohn actually exist. I can't quite believe they do, but clearly they are out there.

Nicknacky · 31/07/2021 14:50

@NannyAndJohn Genuine question, what did you worry about pre covid?

starbrightstarlight8888 · 31/07/2021 15:25

Yes to this!

Glittertwins · 31/07/2021 16:34

Was out in Newcastle city centre last night, it certainly was not busy by their standards. The bars and restaurants we've been in are quite spaced out so I don't feel unsafe either.
