“What we are seeing is a decision by the government to get as many people infected as possible, as quickly as possible [e.g. in nightclubs], while using rhetoric about caution as a way of putting the blame on the public for the consequences,” said Prof Robert West, a health psychologist at University College London who participates in Sage’s behavioural science subgroup.

“It looks like the government judges that the damage to health and healthcare services will be worth the political capital it will gain from this approach,” West said, adding that ministers appear to believe the strategy is now sustainable – unlike last year – because of the vaccine rollout.

Apart from the emerging evidence of brain damage in even asymptomatic cases of the type that leads to Parkinson's and early dementia, and the evidence of cognitive impairment in all cases.

JCVI on Long Covid in kids:

Concerns have been raised regarding post-acute COVID-19 syndrome (long COVID) in children. Emerging large-scale epidemiological studies indicate that this risk is very low in children, especially in comparison with adults, and similar to the sequelae of other respiratory viral infections in children.

So the risk to kids is the same as they face when getting cold or flu.

That's an extremely important finding.... For me that means we just need to let it spread through schools early in the autumn term as we would the flu. Alternatives would only delay the spread somewhat, and ultimately be pointless.

We vaccinate kids for flu though.
And again. Long Covid and death are not th only outcomes.

Do we though? No one cares if other kids are vaccinated for the flu, it’s not become a moral panic even though kids actually do die from flu.

@mumwon

can I say again just because a child or adult hasn't died doesn't mean they are not very ill or don't have serious side effects People should stop focusing on death as the only bad effect
People can exaggerate the effects of long Covid but you can’t do the same with deaths. That’s a hard line in the sand. Many of the studies use self-reported outcomes, which is pretty shaky ground.

@UsedUpUsername Kidney failure lung issues heart problems possible increase in type1 diabetes strokes
these side effects are being researched
Also recently they are researching the probability of most of these "minor" side effects being caused by small clots in the brain & elsewhere -
we do not have figures on specific age groups in hospital, only that they are younger. But there was an article(about research) that discussed the readmittance into hospital within 3 months after people had been admitted for covid -that was alarmingly high & there was also a high number of later deaths. No, we don't know exact details yet but if you read up both 1918 flu epidemic & Ebola (& other viruses) it shows later unexpected forms of side effects.
Sorry I can't attach this article perhaps someone else remembers this?
