Is anyone NOT getting the vaccine?

760 replies

JC2021 · 20/07/2021 19:53

Anyone on here choosing not to receive the covid-19 vaccine?

I am undecided, but resistant.

My reasons; you can still become infected and spread the virus. How sick you might become would depend on your immunity, your age/health.

So, in my mind the only good the vaccine 'may' do (no guarantees) is prevent you getting very ill. Although, even this is still not guaranteed.

So the vaccine may reduce the change of you becoming really ill.

Fully vaccinated people can still spread the virus unknowingly to others, the same as unvaccinated.

I feel very anxious and defensive about people that don't give a damn about millions of people dying. Should I have this checked you think?

This thread is for posters who are NOT getting the jab.
Why are you and others on here if not to preach and belittle?
Why not go and start your own thread and leave us to answer OP's question, which is specifically directed at US??

traumatisednoodle · 21/07/2021 05:56

I am not having it. All this co-ercion is making me even more sure that my decision is the right one. No come back if it all goes wrong, masses of people with life changing injuries as a result. the vaxxed getting more ill than the unvaxxed. Will be endless boosters etc being pumped into your body. Plenty of reasons to not have it

If you are a barrister I feel sorry for your clients. How can anyone with a logical rational mind believe this ?

ChachiChichi · 21/07/2021 05:58

I'm reading this thread currently very ill with Covid, 8 days in, was on the verge of hospitalization 2 days ago. Wish I'd have had the opportunity to have both vaccines. Due to age I only had one, about 9 weeks ago.
All the double vaxxed people at work who caught it have been fine. Me and 2 others have really suffered and still not out of the woods yet.
I'll definitely be getting my second jab as soon as I can, and I'm 8 weeks pregnant. Not a chance am I going through this again.
For the people who aren't getting the jab, totally get it's your choice, but this disease is bloody awful, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Emmmie · 21/07/2021 06:00

I could die of Covid, yes... although I would be shocked if I didn't already have it. I had all the classic symptoms as well as the loss of taste and smell before these became symptoms to look out for.

Anyway...here is my story behind not taking the vaccine, at least not right now. I actually booked a pfizer jab for this Saturday. I was reading about the potential side effects and discovered that this particular vaccine can cause the blood pressure to increase dramatically. I have a terrible white coat syndrome. In pregnancy my BP of 106/70 went as high as 190/85. I was immediately sent to the hospital. I know I will be anxious about the shot and my BP will be sky high. Now...if the Pfizer shot additionally raises my blood pressure, I am terrified of what could happen to me. I just cannot go through with it with one shot, let alone two or three. Not yet anyway. Yes, maybe I could catch Covid (again?!), but my chances of dying from it/getting seriously ill aren't great. So for now, I am okay with that. As someone who hasn't had the jab yet, I don't mind social distancing and wearing a mask.

berrylands · 21/07/2021 06:00

@CeeceeBloomingdale
I tend to agree with you about not preaching, but I'm fed up today. The Delta variant is spreading and affecting us all again, threatening to make the vaccines less effective. Cases are rising everywhere which means that even more dangerous variants will appear. And everything because a significant part of the population refuses to understand, misinterpret, and make up lies about the science. They are responsible for the deaths of people, and it needs to be pointed out.

Wrong. This thread is for anyone who wishes to post on it. Pop over to the daily mail if you want to stick with your tribe. All topics are enriched with views from both sides and people sharing an opposing opinion can help those who are undecided or who feel in a minority. You cannot dictate who should post.
CeeceeBloomingdale · 21/07/2021 06:10

@berrylands I don't think that is preaching, sharing statistics is fact which balances a discussion although I suspect anti-vaxers believe those figures are made up too and will still have reason to disagree. My DC has recently had covid after it ripped through their school closing it altogether. It seemed like a cold at the time but subsequently there have been additional relapses and issues I would not wish on anyone. The number of teacher affected was shocking. I will be first in line to get my DC vaccinated if that is permitted in the future having seen it first hand.

berrylands · 21/07/2021 06:13

@Emmmie
I never heard of the vaccine increasing blood pressure. If it's the anxiety of a hospital what causes that to you I hope you don't have to go to one because of covid!
Anyway, my rage is not directed to people like you that have thought about it and protect others by wearing masks and keeping the distance

Tiari · 21/07/2021 06:15

How are you going to answer the OP's question then?

Never mind, you carry on.......

MRex · 21/07/2021 06:19

A couple of people here concerned about the jab in breastfeeding. Lots of us who are breastfeeding have been jabbed with no problems; early trials suggest it gives the baby protective antibodies, which is great while they're little.

The breastfeeding network is essential whatever your decision on this particular vaccine, because drugs aren't explicitly tested on pregnant nor breastfeeding women for ethical reasons, so this tells you if there are any known issues e.g. checking antibiotics when your dentist doesn't know if they're ok when breastfeeding or not. This is their page about vaccines, loads of useful links: www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/coronavirus/.

RCOG give advice and information here about breastfeeding and pregnancy: www.rcog.org.uk/en/guidelines-research-services/coronavirus-covid-19-pregnancy-and-womens-health/covid-19-vaccines-and-pregnancy/covid-19-vaccines-pregnancy-and-breastfeeding/.

@Tiari

CeeceeBloomingdale How are you going to answer the OP's question then?

I can answer it by saying I have been vaccinated so readers understand some people do and some people don't rather than giving the impression that no one is. This may help undecided people know there are two camps and research their decision more rather than donning a tinfoil hat and crossing their fingers. I will indeed carry on posting whatever I want.
Mistyplanet · 21/07/2021 06:24

Im not getting it. Im 33 and the risk of death from covid for me is low. The long term side effects of the vaccine are still unknown. I know people double jabbed still getting it so it seems pointless to me unless you are a vulnerable person. Still I know vulnerable family members who's stomach hasn't been right since the vaccine- it caused IBS. Just don't want one and I don't like the way everyone's been forced into it. On a deeper philosophical level... everyone will die of something. If you dont die of corona something else will kill you eventually and I accept death as the only thing certain about life. I believe in life after death though and I believe in God. I believe whenever God chooses you to die you have no control of despite all the vaccines you might think will help you- your death is pre written.

Views?

"You can still become infected and spread the virus" : yes, but it's less likely. "The vaccine may reduce your chance of getting very ill" : this is the main benefit of the vaccine. You might still get covid, but you are much more likely to have a milder version, probably won't need the hospital and are very unlikely to die "Fully vaccinated people can still spread the virus unknowingly to others, the same as unvaccinated." : not the same as unvaccinated. Vaccinated people usually get a milder version of the disease, and their virus shedding is not as much. In consequence they are less likely to infect other people. "views?" :These are not my views. This is what the data says

Mumsnet's becoming as bad as Facebook and Twitter for crackpot antivaxxers wheezing on.
True.
Innocenta · 21/07/2021 06:38

If you don't want to be belittled, @Tiari, educate yourself and stop spouting this antivaxxer nonsense.

Flowerlane · 21/07/2021 06:39

Can’t believe this needs saying again but here we go:

Just because someone chooses not to have one vaccine does not make them a ‘anti vaxxer’.

How do you know your friends didn't just get IBS? Really not scientific making such claims. Stress causes IBS. Age can cause IBS. Just because someone gets something one day in their life sometime after having a vaccine. It doesn't mean the vaccine CAUSED it. Don't be silly!

It kind of does 🤷🏻‍♀️

It would be GREAT in my opinion not to become very ill / die thanks!

Flowerlane · 21/07/2021 06:46

@HoliHormonalTigerlilly anti vaxxer has always been used to describe people who are against all vaccines not just one vaccine.

I have had a majority of vaccines that are available, just because I haven’t had this current vaccine doesn’t mean I’m a anti vaxxer.

berrylands · 21/07/2021 06:47

@Mistyplanet
I guess you never go to the doctor or to a hospital and just leave the issue in God's hands.
If you don't mind me asking, are you a Christian?
