Is anyone NOT getting the vaccine?

760 replies

JC2021 · 20/07/2021 19:53

Anyone on here choosing not to receive the covid-19 vaccine?

I am undecided, but resistant.

My reasons; you can still become infected and spread the virus. How sick you might become would depend on your immunity, your age/health.

So, in my mind the only good the vaccine 'may' do (no guarantees) is prevent you getting very ill. Although, even this is still not guaranteed.

So the vaccine may reduce the change of you becoming really ill.

Fully vaccinated people can still spread the virus unknowingly to others, the same as unvaccinated.

@Tiari

That to me doesn't sound selfish, it sounds cautious

Exactly. Why are the jabbed posters so against caution anyhow?

Not all of us are! Don't tar us all with the same brush. Do what's right for you not anyone else. But equally don't assume those jabbed are wrong either, we did what was right for us.
Greenrubber · 20/07/2021 23:08

I won't be having it anytime soon as I'm pregnant and will be breastfeeding!
Once finished with breastfeeding I will make a decision then

I'm not anti vax at all but all the vaccines I've taken over the years have been out for so long I'm happy to believe they are safe these vaccines are only in the early stages so unless I was in a very vulnerable category I would not have it just yet anyway

Spud13 · 20/07/2021 23:09

The guy I was looking after on covid ICU today said he wished he'd got his! 🤔

Wellbythebloodyhell · 20/07/2021 23:13
@Wellbythebloodyhell I'm glad for you that you're double jabbed!

It's up to you if you want to take the 'I respect all views' stance. I certainly can't stop you! But doesn't that extend, logically, to respecting my view, i.e. that those of us who accept the vast weight of the scientific evidence and the overwhelming social and moral duty to be vaccinated - are free to criticise those acting purely on superstition? Because that is my view. So if you respect all views...

(I am not wholesale criticising people with actual unresolved questions who just need some support and input from their doctors.)
I actually said I respect everyone's decison not the same as I respect everyone's views, and that I don't think you should force them on others. I don't have to respect your view but i will respect the decision that your view has concluded you too

Innocenta · 20/07/2021 23:14

@Tiari lovely emojis!

In other words, you're not capable of defending your position.

Tiari · 20/07/2021 23:16

@Tiari I'm against dying very young

And I'm against taking part in a medical trial

XenoBitch · 20/07/2021 23:16

Interesting writing style from our ‘extremely intelligent barrister.’ Co-ercion? I thought precise language was a necessary skill for barristers? hmm

Yes, when they are working. They can speak how they want on MN.

Is this how petty people are getting now? Over the personal medical decisions of other people. Fucks sake, take a look at yourselves. Is this vitriol at the unvaccinated a side affect of having the vaccine or something?

JaceLancs · 20/07/2021 23:22

I’ve had it as have DM, DS and DD
DP is an anti vaxxer
My nephew (40s n very fit) has just had a clot after second Astra Zeneca and is currently in ICU - heart n lung consultant said they’ve seen quite a few cases which they believe are vaccine related but are not being encouraged to report this

Tiari · 20/07/2021 23:24

XenoBitch

Yeah, we always get this on MN which is why I think deep down people are really anxious.

I don't even think of it as a vaccine because it's not. It's more of a preventative jab.

If someone comes on with contentious views, who then tries to justify them by stating they’re an intelligent barrister, but have managed to get their spell checker to allow the word co-ercion, (quite tricky!) then it casts doubt on their justification, doesn’t it?
covi · 20/07/2021 23:29

@JesusInTheCabbageVan oh please... the seatbelt is not a vaccine, it is external to your body and I'm sick and tired of this comparison.
Look for something new for gods sake

covi · 20/07/2021 23:31

@Cheshirewife

Please god, who are these people who can’t understand the statistical difference between (I) the sizeable risks of death or serious long lasting harm due to covid; and (ii) the very very small risk of material complications from the vaccination, which delivers a material reduction in covid risk?

All the stats are publicly available so I actually feel incredibly sad for anyone who can’t understand this. Their education has clearly failed them.

Oh wow middle class snub
XenoBitch · 20/07/2021 23:32

Why do they have to justify their medical decisions to anyone?

I hate what this whole thing is doing to people.

MrsFezziwig · 20/07/2021 23:33

Because jabbed people have my sympathy. Most seem so defensive and anxious. It must be a worry having been injected with something that doesn't finish trials until 2023.

Nice try @Tiari. I’ve missed these threads - thought by now everyone would have decided either to be vaccinated or not so they would be irrelevant, but apparently not.

MrsFezziwig · 20/07/2021 23:34

Why do they have to justify their medical decisions to anyone?

They don’t - in the same way that they don’t have to post about it on Mumsnet, but still they do.

covi · 20/07/2021 23:35

@Janaih

All I would say is that if you choose not to get it, accept the consequences quietly. Your travel will be limited, your entry to venues will be limited and people will think less of you. Nothing can stop Bojo and his cronies implementing these new laws around covid passports so no whinging if you choose to refuse this vaccine. Its your choice

Isn’t this coercion?

Nope, just part of living in a modern civilised society.

Oh wow where no wonder we are in this mess. Remember: look them in the eye while you kill them silently for the "greater good "
balloonsintrees · 20/07/2021 23:35

@JC2021

I have suffered with blood clots before and required thinning medication
Yep, me too. 8 mini clots all over my lungs in November being the most recent - guess what? Still double vaccinated... HTH
Sillysuzie · 20/07/2021 23:37

🙄

Anon778833 · 20/07/2021 23:40

My ex and I split up because I had the vaccine and he thinks he can catch spike proteins from kissing me on the mouth or having sex.

Tiari · 20/07/2021 23:43

There should be a thread just for the jabbed where they can pour their hearts out to each other and dicuss their anxieties and concerns.

This would be preferable to them always jumping onto threads for the unjabbed (OP question was "Is anyone NOT getting the vaccine) and spouting on about the uneducated, selfish, etc etc etc.

cabingirl · 20/07/2021 23:43

The chances of severe illness are much lower - and that keeps the hospitals from getting full and overwhelmed and that keeps the beds free for other non-Covid patients.

The lockdowns were to protect the NHS until a vaccine could do it. That's why it's important to get it if you can, even if it's not 100% protection.

Is anyone NOT getting the vaccine?
XenoBitch · 20/07/2021 23:45

@MrsFezziwig

Why do they have to justify their medical decisions to anyone?

They don’t - in the same way that they don’t have to post about it on Mumsnet, but still they do.

OP asked a question. If you have had the vaccine, why did you come on this thread? It is not relevant to you. Or is it just to shout down people who have decided differently to you?
Mummywantsaweewee · 20/07/2021 23:49

The OP asked if anyone hasn’t had the jab, not sure why people who’ve had the vaccine are commenting…
@JC2021 I’ve not had it because I’m pregnant and for now I would rather take precautions than have a covid vaccine.
I’m not an “anti vaxxer” as I and my child have had other routine vaccines.

Fairunibutterfly · 20/07/2021 23:49

@Weirdfan

I delayed mine, basically because I massively overthought it and tied myself up in so many knots I couldn't come to a decision I felt happy with. I've just had to accept that there are risks either way now and that I can't just keep swinging between having it and not having it, shit or get off the pot essentially. So I've had mine and I'm avoiding any more weighing-up, it's done now and I'm glad not to be carrying round the weight of the decision anymore tbh.
I was exactly the same. Made a last minute decision to do it, booked and went straight away.

I’m still not sure but couldn’t think straight while deciding. I’ve only had one so far, waiting for second.
