I understand why people are against vaccine passports, but a lot of those most vocal against it are the usual crowd who have been anti-lockdown and anti-mask throughout (and often anti-vaccine). They won't accept vaccine passports but will be the first to complain if and when nightclubs are forced to close again due to the impact of the virus which without vaccines would already be a lot worse with the Delta variant.

They can't always have it both ways.

I am completely against vaccine passports and pro opening now and pro people/ venues deciding themselves whether masks are essential or not.
I am pro vaccinating 16 plus but not convinced on the 12-15 age group yet.
I don’t think it’s true at all to lump vaccine passport opinion in with vaccine position at all. They are two very different things.
For me, vaccine passports domestically just aren’t necessary. We have vaccine uptake 80% plus in most age groups and 95% plus in the high risk ones.
They are not necessary. And I don’t but the argument that they’d be temporary either. The lockdown was for 2 weeks back in March 2020. It would all be over in 12 weeks we were told.
Once you implement an intervention it is very hard to stop it again. Look at the fuss over whether people should continue to wear manky masks from their pocket or not when they pop into Marks and Sparks!

**And what is wrong with social distancing exactly. Every morning I had to put up with body odour and coffee breath. Social distancing means now I don’t have to.

For a start some business couldn’t operate effectively with social distancing, such as hospitality. Restaurants and theatres.
If you personally want to social distance yourself from others that’s your choice.
In that case you wouldn’t go to a busy environment such as a live concert or a busy bar/ restaurant.
It doesn’t mean that everyone else should live with restrictions.

I was talking more about social distancing when out rather than indoors. I was at Wimbledon just a couple of weeks ago. Other than on court I was able to social distance within the grounds. That’s enough. Tables in every office I’ve ever worked were big enough for social distancing. Although my measurements may be off but whispers. Couldn’t be heard. I know not every place has barriers between desks but partitions we’re always a part of office life. Time to bring them back.

I'm double jabbed and I am completely against vaccine passports, completely Orwellian. I don't care if other people aren't jabbed

Bythemillpond · 25/07/2021 12:51

As someone who gets really ill after vaccines all I can see is my life is over.

If I have the vaccine and the 2nd vaccine and then a booster every 3 months I am going to be ill and bed bound for 1/2 the year which means I am not going to be able to get an income.
If I don’t have the vaccine I am stuck not able to go out because I really don’t believe that it will just stay at Covid passports for night clubs and large venues.

My only hope for a normal life is to look for a country who don’t have Covid passports. I am sure there will be one or 2 in the whole world.

I have resigned myself to knowing my life in my country is over. I will never ever do the things I did before this shit and won’t ever feel free for a very long time.

I am of an age that I can’t wait 20-30 years for everything to go back to normal as I will be dead.

I think if no one in the world had isolated and we just had mask wearing, SD etc I think it would have been chaotic for a year or 2 and millions more would have died so far but then I think it would have died out.
Instead this way I think millions more will die as there is no end to it. It will be here forever more.

Porcupineintherough · 25/07/2021 16:54

People can bleat and moan all they like but it is quite likely that other countries and certain activities (eg cruise liners) are going to demand proof of vaccination for a couple of years at least.

@Bythemillpond you can tell you are not an epidemiologist.

@RedToothBrush Good posts. I havent had the vaccine yet. This is going to be a small thing to some. But there have been posts on here AND ive spoken to people in RL who have been unable to lift their arm and its been VERY painful afterwards. One woman i spoke to couldnt even lift her arm to brush her hair. There is a thread on here where a posters DH had to help her wash her hair in the shower. Which brings me to my next point, i have a bath. I dont have a shower. So i obvs have to lift myself in and out I live in social housing so cant change this. I have been rinsing my hair by using a washing up bowl here since 1994. Which also needs both arms to lift it. Im used to it. But i am reluctant to take the risk of not being able to practice basic hygiene. These issues and similar ones will not have occurred to many including the Government because they have no idea of how some of us have to live.
More of these practical issues need to be addressed. But i know they wont be.

CatsArePeople · 25/07/2021 18:49

giving up civil rights for an illusion of safety is a very sinister idea

Againstmachine · 25/07/2021 18:53

Indeed, Gareth Southgate was telling the young to get the vaccine so you can get your freedom back, it isn't freedom if you have to submit to something to get it back.

And to listen to a self-righteous Pollock like him.

Oh and I am double vaccinated so not a anti vaxer

WouldBeGood · 25/07/2021 19:07

I got double vaxxed to get my freedom back. That's not gone well (Scotland)

Againstmachine · 25/07/2021 19:09

@WouldBeGood I got double vaxxed to get my freedom back. That's not gone well (Scotland)

That was what I was told, it seems to be a lot of lies doesnt it.

WouldBeGood · 25/07/2021 19:18

Yep, @Againstmachine total bollocks. I feel duped.

MercyBooth · 25/07/2021 19:23

And this is why uptake is dropping amongst younger people. They see nothing changing.

leafyygreens · 25/07/2021 19:27

I'm not sure why you think this

We've only got 53% of the population fully vaccinated and case numbers are rising rapidly, hence why the government hasn't dropped all restrictions at this current second. This isn't unique to the UK (in fact most other countries wouldn't have eased restrictions as they see case numbers rocketing).

It's an ever changing, evolving pandemic.

WouldBeGood · 25/07/2021 19:45

@leafyygreens case numbers are in fact falling rapidly

leafyygreens · 25/07/2021 19:50
@leafyygreens case numbers are in fact falling rapidly
@wouldbegood

you're claiming you were lied to because you are vaccinated and now you don't have your freedom back

I'm pointing out that's not in any way true, and the context of the situation which explains why the UK hasn't dropped all restrictions yet.

Right now the data is noisy, we're seeing a drop but this is after cases have been steadily rising after the past month. It remains to be seen if this trend continues.

Againstmachine · 25/07/2021 19:53

@WouldBeGood

Yep promises broke.

WouldBeGood · 25/07/2021 19:55

@leafyygreens @and case numbers are rising rapidly”. Your words. They are just rubbish. Cases are falling

WouldBeGood · 25/07/2021 19:57

And the promise of freedom didn’t come with conditions as to everyone being fully vaccinated.

It was the vulnerable, then the over fifties, then the etc etc

leafyygreens · 25/07/2021 20:04
**@leafyygreens* @and* case numbers are rising rapidly”. Your words. They are just rubbish. Cases are falling
as I said, your claim that you've been lied to is wrong

I'm personally against domestic vaccine passports that don't include negative testing as an option, but hyperbole and stating things that are obviously incorrect don't help your argument

WouldBeGood · 25/07/2021 20:05

@leafyygreens you’ve just posted a statement that is factually incorrect!

Gaslighting

Againstmachine · 25/07/2021 20:06
