So the PM and chancellor aren't isolating even though Javid is positive, as they are taking part in a pilot programme. Ive heard it all now.

Never thought I'd say it but

Enough is enough.

I think this will really piss people off and stop people isolating

Streamingbannersofdawn · 18/07/2021 11:01

@spinningspaniels

You are probably right but that's not the point...when you set rules for other people, harsh rules that if broken can result in a hefty fine you don't dodge those rules yourself. That's not leadership.

RosesAndHellebores · 18/07/2021 11:02

Frankly I don't blame them and think we need to start doing our own individual risk assessments. DS had covid a few weeks ago. We self isolated and he was scrupulous about limiting his contact with us. We exiled him to the summer house and took daily lfts. We are both double jabbed and I think it would have been entirely reasonable for us to not self isolate.

The world has to start again.

VanGoSunflowers · 18/07/2021 11:02

I’d say in this instance it matters not one jot if this is a legitimate trial or not. It’s a PR disaster and won’t do them any favours.

newnortherner111 · 18/07/2021 11:02

Sense has prevailed in a way and they will self-isolate. So young Wilfrid will get to see his dad a bit more often.

user1487194234 · 18/07/2021 11:03

Too late,the damage is done

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/07/2021 11:03

According to the info on the gov website, participants in the study are randomly assigned to either a group that must continue to isolate for the full time, or a group that can test daily
How fortuitous that Johnson and Sunak were both randomly assigned to the daily testing group. As was Michael Gove

Not really - the big names were always going to be in the preferred group, but if anyone else found their group "inconvenient" I've no doubt a "clerical error" would be deemed to have been made and they'd promptly be moved to the other

LostThings · 18/07/2021 11:03

Such a farce.
Changed their minds because of the critisism. What happened to following the science? It's all such a sh## show.

ssd · 18/07/2021 11:04

Good grief they are now self isolating due to criticism. Talk about mealy mouthed. I wonder if anyone in government actually has any sense and could have told them how all this would have panned out?

I do know of someone locally who was given the opportunity to take part in the scheme. What a surprise that Boris and his mates are also allowed to take part!

Wanttocry · 18/07/2021 11:04

Changing their minds due to the criticism seems to suggest that they did not anticipate the criticism. How is that possible? Surely anyone could have anticipated the criticism?
pinatastick · 18/07/2021 11:05

Sorry, that should say 'were' also allowed to take part!!

ssd · 18/07/2021 11:05

How much are these men being paid???
Im on 9.50 an hour and have more sense than them.

Fingers crossed for independence here

I was thinking they should have done science degrees then I remembered Scotland's Chief Medical Officer..Shock

milkytwilight · 18/07/2021 11:06

Rishi announced half an hour ago he appreciates how unfair it must seem, and is therefore going to isolate.

PaulaPetunia · 18/07/2021 11:07

Cross post ssd.
Quote funny though!

neveradullmoment99 · 18/07/2021 11:07

@nordica

I hope Whitty and Valance refuse to be in the same room with the PM for a freedom day press conference tomorrow...
I heard that's not happening in the light of rising cases.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/07/2021 11:07

Good grief they are now self isolating due to criticism

Do you really believe that? Or is it more likely they'll carry on and just make sure they keep themselves under the radar?

"Emergency family issues" coming up any time now, a la Cummings ...

WrongKindOfFace · 18/07/2021 11:08

@puppeteer

The pilot scheme can be joined by anyone. Just do it. Tell your friends, and invite them too.
Children can’t though, I don’t think.
RedToothBrush · 18/07/2021 11:08

@PurpleDaisies

This is a genuine programme that they’re taking part in but it’s a PR disaster. How did they think this would go down with the thousands of people who have been pinged this week? Bonkers.
Being pinged is different to being T&Ted though.

I'd ignore a ping. I think you are bonkers to sign up to even the possibility of being pinged though.

Its terrible PR.

You lead by example. And if you aren't isolating then guess what your example making is?

Tinpotspectator · 18/07/2021 11:09

BBC says they've changed their mind.

ssd · 18/07/2021 11:09

@Puzzledandpissedoff you're right, of course they won't. Stupid me.

Unsure33 · 18/07/2021 11:10

@PurpleDaisies

Why do you all get so angry before checking the facts . other employers have signed up . And if it works. It will be rolled out .

It’s a TRIAL

Let’s hope it works and everyone including schools will be able to take it up .

RedToothBrush · 18/07/2021 11:10

Omg! PR disaster complete

The fact they are now isolating is mind blowing!

What the hell did they think the response from the public and press was going to be?!?

ElizaLynn · 18/07/2021 11:10

Terrible they had to be shamed into this. Who advises these clowns honestly?
