So the PM and chancellor aren't isolating even though Javid is positive, as they are taking part in a pilot programme. Ive heard it all now.

Never thought I'd say it but

Enough is enough.

So lucky that both the PM and the chancellor were selected to be invited to be part of this trial and assigned the group that got daily tests rather than the group that had to continue to isolate.

PurpleDaisies · 18/07/2021 08:37

@sashagabadon

At least we know they haven’t deleted their apps or turned them off!
This (most likely) won’t be through the app-they will have been identified by Javid as close contacts. He was seen with them so no avoiding itz
TipTopHat · 18/07/2021 08:38

I work in the NHS and our trust are also taking part in this pilot, presumably because we can't cope with the sheer volume of staff who were isolating!

PurpleDaisies · 18/07/2021 08:39

Apparently the whole of Downing Street workplace is signed up for this trial. They were just talking about it on bbc breakfast.

The optics are terrible. One rule for them, another for us plebs.

AuntieStella · 18/07/2021 08:41

The pilot programme does exist. And it is right that people are on that scheme.

For example, those round Gove when he tested positive were on it too.

It's awfully convenient that there are so many trials in government offices.

noblegiraffe · 18/07/2021 08:41

Participants in the study are placed into one of two groups at random.

One group does self-isolation as normal. The other does daily LFT testing.

So what are the odds that Boris, Rishi and Gove were all allocated the daily LFT group at random?

Grandma14 · 18/07/2021 08:41

Employers can apply to take part as an organisation, which would cover their staff.
The information I received from them actually stated that many government departments ( so presumable the dept which is responsible for MPs ) and other large employers had already signed up for this a few months ago.

OliveTree75 · 18/07/2021 08:44

Think i might enrol my ds in our own study today. He has been in isolation since monday and is totally fed up.

ineedaholidaynow · 18/07/2021 08:44

So are they both going to sit in the House of Commons this week with the rest of the MPs?

TheDukeissoHot1 · 18/07/2021 08:45

Personally I think it’s disgusting. AngryAngryAngry. Children up & down the country (including my own) are still being forced to isolate because it’s the law to do so, yet the government get to ‘opt out’ of their own rules.

Yet again it shows complete disregard for the sacrifices that the people of this country are making.

My own kids are coming to the end of 2 isolations back to back (4 since March), it is destroying their mental health and their education, DS has had no transition to secondary, no leavers celebrations, and I am completely fucking done with it. Isolation ends for us today Angry

Wanttocry · 18/07/2021 08:45

Apparently the whole of Downing Street workplace is signed up for this trial.

According to the info on the gov website, participants in the study are randomly assigned to either a group that must continue to isolate for the full time, or a group that can test daily.
How fortuitous that Johnson and Sunak were both randomly assigned to the daily testing group. As was Michael Gove.

everythingthelighttouches · 18/07/2021 08:45

What an absolute load of bollocks!!!

Apparently Saj not in this scheme though, because he already said he tested on Friday because he “felt a bit groggy”……

Not, “I tested positive because I’m testing every day as part of a pilot scheme”

PurpleDaisies · 18/07/2021 08:45

So what are the odds that Boris, Rishi and Gove were all allocated the daily LFT group at random?

0.5 x 0.5 x 0.5 = 0.125
12.5%

But with their history of one rule for them and another for the rest of us? 100%.

Even if they did randomly qualify, the message that it sends is just awful.

Saveourpeople · 18/07/2021 08:45

7-1

I would too. Just say he's got a part time job in Westminster.

The scheme is only for contacts of confirmed cases. So only applies to those in contact with Javid shortly before he got symptoms. Javid himself wouldn’t be included.

That'll be turned around soon

'Pilot scheme ' misspelled as 'a bit groggy'

ineedaholidaynow · 18/07/2021 08:48

@everythingthelighttouches I think you only take part in the scheme once you are a contact. You don’t test daily all the time.

3asAbird · 18/07/2021 08:48

I am so angry and frustrated.
I can see lots abandoning quarantine this week which could lead to further rise in infections.
Thi k thye underestimate publics mood on this one.

TheGenealogist · 18/07/2021 08:48

To be fair - Boris has definitely had Covid, not sure whether Sunak has or not, but they'll both have had 2 jabs.

Isolating people who have had 2 vaccinations is nonsense. And it needs to stop.

Lemons1571 · 18/07/2021 08:49

Why did SJ, when he “felt groggy”, do an LFT? They keep telling us that LFT are for symptomless people, and if you have symptoms/suspect you might have covid, you must immediately book a pcr.?

Because he didn’t want to trigger unnecessary isolation until the test result came back, that’s why.

Alright for the rest of us plebs to isolate when healthy for 24-48 hours though.

Totally missing the point.

They’re stuffing any thread of public trust that’s still left in the bin with this move.

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 18/07/2021 08:53

On the Trevor Philips show they said big employers including TFL are taking part.

This. PCR tests are for people with symptoms. LFTs are not. Can’t believe the health secretary is saying this and it’s been reported everywhere Angry

And both will piss on a nice holiday in a few days.
