So the PM and chancellor aren't isolating even though Javid is positive, as they are taking part in a pilot programme. Ive heard it all now.

Never thought I'd say it but

Enough is enough.

But if he is following the rules as we're all so keen for him to do then he won't have got a pcr for feeling groggy.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/07/2021 09:29

DS's last week of school is next week. If his bubble closes then no chance will I make him isolate. We'll just do daily LFT.

Lemons1571 · 18/07/2021 09:29

@PurpleDaisies

Sorry, pressed post by accident.

Do you really believe that SJ’s thought process was “I feel groggy, oh it’s not one of the 3 symptoms, I am not entitled to a pcr test” and left it at that. Then later that day, just happened to do his regular asymptomatic LFT testing?

No, I think he felt like shit and had an LFT handy so decided to have a go and see. It was positive so he booked a pcr. I haven’t seen him say anything about regular asymptomatic testing-where’s that come from?

Exactly. He thought “I’ve got symptoms of not feeling well, I’ll do an LFT”. He linked the two, his symptoms lead to an LFT test. Which is fine, if they weren’t banging on endlessly for the rest of us about how LFT are for asymptomatic only.
DreamingofTimbuktu · 18/07/2021 09:29

The government clearly just despise us. I can only hope that next time there’s an election people remember that.

NakedAttraction · 18/07/2021 09:29

@MaxNormal

Isolating people who have had 2 vaccinations is nonsense. And it needs to stop

Why though? Sajid Javid has had both and tested positive, I personally know several people who have got it after completing their vaccination course and one can barely move on twitter for the double-jabbed bemoaning how ill they feel with covid. So clearly the vaccinated can still spread it.

This only proves the double vaxxed can become infected. It doesn’t tell you anything about how likely they are to infect others.

PurpleDaisies · 18/07/2021 09:31

@StealthPolarBear

I mentioned that I think. Aren't most adults meant to be doing daily testing while asymptomatic? Coukd be wrong, I certainly wasn't. But if he was doing daily testing then it's no shock a lft picked up his covid.
It’s not daily testing that’s open to most adults (all in England as far as I can tell) who want to can have two LFTs a week for asymptomatic testing.
Lemons1571 · 18/07/2021 09:31

Exactly. So he went against his own rules!

My beef with it is not what he did. I’d have done the same probably. But he’s the health secretary, and his guidance to 67 million or so other people is a completely different process.

twelly · 18/07/2021 09:31

No one should be isolating after 2 vaccines in my view but it is the hypocrisy at the top of government that appalls me along with the general lack of clarity. All the way through the cross there have missed and confused messages. We now need to just back to normal like - the is virus will be with us forever so we need to live with it as we do other diseases. We have prioritised this virus over all other diseases, protected the old and vulnerable at the expense if other diseases and the young, thee we mental and physical health if the young has suffered and we need to get on with life

bigbluebus · 18/07/2021 09:33

I became aware of this pilot scheme 2 weeks ago after a friend's daughter was a close contact of someone who tested positive. The daughter had been double jabbed as she works for the NHS. She applied to join the pilot by ringing 119 and was accepted within 24 hours, so didn't have to isolate. The area she lived in had very high case rates at the time (over 1000 per 100,000) and works with sick children (although no doubt in PPE). So not just the PM who has a get out of jail free card!

StealthPolarBear · 18/07/2021 09:34

Lemons1571 I don't agree. As an asymptomatic person he tool a routine LFT. As it was positive he isolated and booked a PCR.
Which bit of that is wrong?
Daisies - thabks, not daily, twice weekly like school children. Makes more sense thanks.

NCforAIBU · 18/07/2021 09:35

I have put a AIBU about this in AIBU. Don’t know if it will stay in there. Genuinely interested in the result of the poll.

PurpleDaisies · 18/07/2021 09:37

But those weren’t covid symptoms (ridiculously). You currently aren’t supposed to book a pcr test without the three key symptoms.

IndiaMay · 18/07/2021 09:38

To be fair I do know someone on this pilot scheme. His wife tested positive about 3 weeks ago and he did what the PM and Chancellor are doing and was monitored as part of the scheme

BoPeeple · 18/07/2021 09:39

The (genuine) pilot scheme is being trialled by 20 organisations in the private and public sector - including Network Rail, Transport for London, Heathrow Airport, Border Control etc. Downing Street is one of them.

These are organisations that literally run our country.

Why shouldn’t the rules be different for them?

StealthPolarBear · 18/07/2021 09:39

Is there definitely an announcement tomorrow or are people just assuming?
Surely if the restrictions are lifted from tomorrow the announcement would be tonight.
Will he be throwing sweets into cheering crowds, like at the pantomime?

NakedAttraction · 18/07/2021 09:40

Exactly. He thought “I’ve got symptoms of not feeling well, I’ll do an LFT”. He linked the two, his symptoms lead to an LFT test. Which is fine, if they weren’t banging on endlessly for the rest of us about how LFT are for asymptomatic only.

Just another example of complete lack of common sense. The point is if you have the specified symptoms you need a PCR. They are more sensitive and pick up more positive cases. If you don’t have symptoms and need to test regularly you can use a LFT.

A LFT doesn’t suddenly stop working if you have some symptoms. Surely everyone who has a LFT at home takes one if they have symptoms whilst they wait for their PCR? And in the meantime if you have one of the 3 specified symptoms you isolate in the meantime.

Are there really so many people lacking in common sense?!

Namenic · 18/07/2021 09:40

Haha - I wonder if this study is going to be as rigorous as those study events where they organised gatherings/concerts without masks and found out that they didn’t gather enough info because people didn’t do a voluntary pcr test afterwards ?!

Notonthestairs · 18/07/2021 09:40

I'd heard of the scheme because Gove was on it.

What where the chances of all the cabinet being put in the (randomly chosen)!daily testing group.

They think we are stupid.

ancientgran · 18/07/2021 09:40

@Grandma14

My husband has Covid; he is on day 8 of isolation. We are both double jabbed. And over 65, and obviously household contacts. T and T contacted me and asked if I would like to take part in the same pilot scheme, instead of joining my husband in enforced isolation. . I did...and am testing every day, and every day I have a negative test ( all of them, plus a negative PCR), I am free to go about my usual activities....just like the PM. You can Google check “ Daily Contact Testing Study. “
Great for you but don't you think it is a bit of a coincidence that the PM and Chancellor just happen to both be people who get the chance?
rookiemere · 18/07/2021 09:40

@StylishMummy I don't want politicians to disappear, but I do expect them to wfh just as most of us with office jobs have been forced to do for the past 16 months. They presumably have access to Teams same as the rest of us, it's bemused me that parliament has continued to sit in person throughout this pandemic.

Arrowheart · 18/07/2021 09:42

They are playing us all for fools. One rule for them and the rest of us just suck it up.

woodlands01 · 18/07/2021 09:43

50% chance of being able to avoid self-isolating with this scheme. I failed and got allocated tot he self isolating group - funny how the government peopel seem to win to 50% gamble.
Also it was quite difficult to find information, get the link and accepted and no-one else I know in a school environment was aware it was generally available.
Feels like government staff have easier access and a skewed probability which makes me quite angry
