So the PM and chancellor aren't isolating even though Javid is positive, as they are taking part in a pilot programme. Ive heard it all now.

Never thought I'd say it but

Enough is enough.

My boss is doing the pilot scheme, his wife tested positive last Sunday. He tests every 24 hours and if negative he's allowed out for 24 hours. I'm sure he said he was getting shopping vouchers for signing up to the scheme.

@55378OO8

Well I'm now feeling like a total mug for keeping my kids inside the flat on the hottest day of the year yesterday.
Let them out today! I take it seriously, but not that seriously! No one in government gives a toss, as long as most people comply it is good enough.
3asAbird · 18/07/2021 09:17

Interesting dan hodges daily mail is on gmb news as was flicking to see some news on this specific issue.
Hes outraged hes been trying to Investigate the scheme for the last month.
He said its one rule fir one other rules for others.
That the optics and framing labours row different people have different rules.
The chance of both rishi and and Boris being same control group told not to self isolate.
Why can't nhs access this scheme.
Also says other organisations can access this like the yet some part if tube line is shut because staff got pinged why dident they opt out.
Daily mail normally right leaning this journalist is not.
Wonder if any tory mps not in cabinet be equally outraged.
Can they vote no confidence in him and oust him like may.
As I agree with Dan no one at downing Street or cabinet thinking rationally anymore.

@Imnothereforthedrama

Just delete the app it’s not a legal requirement from tomorrow to scan in . I don’t know why it’s needed anyway for me if I’m in work I’ll be told if someone has tested positive or if I meet friends/ family I’ll be told . I’m not isolating because I was in a restaurant at the same time as someone who’s tested positive if I’m sat no where near someone it’s madness .
This is a misunderstanding of how the app works. Check ins don’t lead to you being pinged, only a Bluetooth interaction with someone else’s phone. You would have to be near to them to get pinged.

@Lemons1571

Why did SJ, when he “felt groggy”, do an LFT? They keep telling us that LFT are for symptomless people, and if you have symptoms/suspect you might have covid, you must immediately book a pcr.?

Because he didn’t want to trigger unnecessary isolation until the test result came back, that’s why.

Alright for the rest of us plebs to isolate when healthy for 24-48 hours though.

Presumably because feeling groggy isn't one of the symptoms that makes you eligible for a PCR.
StylishMummy · 18/07/2021 09:19

Honestly, does everyone WANT the leaders of the country to disappear? They're not travelling around the country etc, they're working. I wish all major politicians were exempt from isolation rules so they could get on with running the country!

StealthPolarBear · 18/07/2021 09:19

Apologies others have said similar.

Disappearing is too good for them.

Agree @Lemons1571 DS has taken lat flow tests (negative) and carried on working when he has been unwell this week. I kept saying he should do PCR but he doesn't get paid when isolating and his boss encourages them to be in no matter what. Then I read what Javed had said and wondered if I'd got it wrong .

I don't have school age children but if I did I would be fuming now .

I want them to set an example so they’ve got some shred of credibility left when they’re setting out public health guidance they want us all to follow. This one rule for them abs another for us is deeply unhelpful.

They wouldn’t be disappearing. People have worked effectively from home all through the pandemic.

@Grandma14

My husband has Covid; he is on day 8 of isolation. We are both double jabbed. And over 65, and obviously household contacts. T and T contacted me and asked if I would like to take part in the same pilot scheme, instead of joining my husband in enforced isolation. . I did...and am testing every day, and every day I have a negative test ( all of them, plus a negative PCR), I am free to go about my usual activities....just like the PM. You can Google check “ Daily Contact Testing Study. “
Ok that’s good. But not all of us are offered that, including the vast majority of the hundreds of thousands of school children who have apparently had “close contact”
Lemons1571 · 18/07/2021 09:22

Yet my son, who tested positive for covid 2 weeks ago, went back to school for 1 day but can be asked to isolate again, this time as a contact!

I think this story is all made up.

@PurpleDaisies @nordica

Do you really believe that SJ’s thought process was “I feel groggy, oh it’s not one of the 3 symptoms, I am not entitled to a pcr test” and left it at that. Then later that day, just happened to do his regular asymptomatic LFT testing?

TopBitchoftheWitches · 18/07/2021 09:22

That's most people giving up on isolation now. Well done England's government.

Unescorted · 18/07/2021 09:22

If you are on the pilot scheme do you get a little badge so the rest of us have a choice to avoid you?

Yes but for us plans, it’s the luck of the draw whether we get picked for this endless ‘pilot scheme’ or not but it’s amazing how MPs always get chosen!

newnortherner111 · 18/07/2021 09:24

@StylishMummy I don't want the leaders to disappear, I want to see Mr Johnson in prison. My lifelong opposition to the death penalty is the sole reason why I do not want to see him hang.

Government ministers are adept at hiding when something gets difficult, so as to avoid scrutiny, or they send out a junior female minister to face the music. I would think Mr Johnson would be pleased to have a reason not to appear in the House of Commons this week before the recess.

profpoopsnagle · 18/07/2021 09:24

@MaxNormal

Isolating people who have had 2 vaccinations is nonsense. And it needs to stop

Why though? Sajid Javid has had both and tested positive, I personally know several people who have got it after completing their vaccination course and one can barely move on twitter for the double-jabbed bemoaning how ill they feel with covid. So clearly the vaccinated can still spread it.

The only clear thing it shows is that vaccinated people can catch it. It tells us nothing about spreading, unless we can confirm that Javid has passed it onto someone else, and we'd need to know that it was definitely him that passed it and not someone else.

No, I think he felt like shit and had an LFT handy so decided to have a go and see. It was positive so he booked a pcr. I haven’t seen him say anything about regular asymptomatic testing-where’s that come from?

C8H10N4O2 · 18/07/2021 09:25

I look forward to the analysis of the data from the "pilot" when it seems to be anything but random assignment.

Whether people are put in the non isolation group because they are too important to isolate or providing critical services it makes a mockery of a randomised trial.

Lemons1571 · 18/07/2021 09:26

@StealthPolarBear I really don’t think Sajid is sitting there agonising over whether his specific symptom is eligible for a pcr test. He is the health secretary. If he doesn’t know that a common initial symptom of the delta variant is tiredness and feeling rough then we might as well all give up.

puppeteer · 18/07/2021 09:26

The pilot scheme can be joined by anyone. Just do it. Tell your friends, and invite them too.

StealthPolarBear · 18/07/2021 09:27

I mentioned that I think. Aren't most adults meant to be doing daily testing while asymptomatic?
Coukd be wrong, I certainly wasn't. But if he was doing daily testing then it's no shock a lft picked up his covid.
