So the PM and chancellor aren't isolating even though Javid is positive, as they are taking part in a pilot programme. Ive heard it all now.

Never thought I'd say it but

Enough is enough.

SJ must have had two jabs? I can't believe he hasn't.

PurpleDaisies · 18/07/2021 08:58

This. PCR tests are for people with symptoms. LFTs are not.

The problem is they still haven’t updated the list of symptoms that make you eligible for a pcr test. The symptoms of delta variant (particularly in vaccinated people) are headache, runny nose and sore throat rather than cough, fever and loss of taste/smell. They probably realise the testing system wouldn’t cope with people testing for the actual most common symptoms of covid at the moment.

nordica · 18/07/2021 08:58

@Lemons1571

Why did SJ, when he “felt groggy”, do an LFT? They keep telling us that LFT are for symptomless people, and if you have symptoms/suspect you might have covid, you must immediately book a pcr.?

Because he didn’t want to trigger unnecessary isolation until the test result came back, that’s why.

Alright for the rest of us plebs to isolate when healthy for 24-48 hours though.

You can only book a PCR if you have one of the 3 main symptoms (cough, temperature, loss of taste or smell), or if you are confirming a positive LFT.

If he had for example a bit of a headache and felt unusually tired, that wouldn't have been enough to get a PCR so in that case doing an LFT was entirely sensible.

quiteathome · 18/07/2021 08:59

Which is why they are likely to make vaccinated people isolate. However vaccinated people should probably do the test every day thing, not just those who randomly happen to be MPs.

krystalweedon · 18/07/2021 08:59

Lots of people will just stop isolating now. They can say they are part of the pilot if anyone asks. No masks or social distancing in England from Monday. What can possibly go wrong?

Where does all this leave people who are CV and CEV? Under a very large bus.

rookiemere · 18/07/2021 08:59

The more I think about it, the more I believe this is a deliberate public nudge, in the same way that Cummings trip seemed to be leaked quite deliberately at the point when they wanted people to go out and start spending again.
Herd immunity is a risky strategy- people will die - but for it to be successful we need to get over the peak of the infections in the next few weeks as it would be even worse for the peak to come in winter.

I suspect this is a bit of theatre to signal that people should start ignoring T&T if they don't already and to demonstrate that catching covid if fully jabbed isn't that bad.

MaxNormal · 18/07/2021 09:00

Isolating people who have had 2 vaccinations is nonsense. And it needs to stop

Why though? Sajid Javid has had both and tested positive, I personally know several people who have got it after completing their vaccination course and one can barely move on twitter for the double-jabbed bemoaning how ill they feel with covid. So clearly the vaccinated can still spread it.

Yes he has.
3asAbird · 18/07/2021 09:01

The problem is our 3 main symptoms get pcr test are wrong especially for delta.
Something really off about this.
We were told don't lft if you have symptoms.

The Guardian says:

Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak will not isolate after being ‘pinged’.
Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak are part of a pilot scheme

How stupid do they think we all are?

A pilot scheme we’ve only just heard of ...

User135644 · 18/07/2021 09:02

Can you blame them? They'll be way ahead in the polls even if Boris Johnson shot someone in Trafalgar Square (to paraphrase a Trump quote).

The sheep will vote them in no matter what, so is it any wonder they're just taking the piss out of us?

PurpleDaisies · 18/07/2021 09:04

This is a genuine scheme. It’s whether they should choose to be involved for the greater good of the public health message that’s the bigger issue, not forgetting how three ministers were all randomly allocated to the testing rather than isolating group.

Marisa444 · 18/07/2021 09:04

My companies part of the scheme too so I have heard if it.

I would hope it becomes the norm,

doubleshotespresso · 18/07/2021 09:05

@nordica

I hope Whitty and Valance refuse to be in the same room with the PM for a freedom day press conference tomorrow...
I thought the same. You could seeWhitty specifically wanted the ground to swallow him up I'll bet this doesn't help matters much at all.
ADHDgirl · 18/07/2021 09:06

My daughter was sent home from school to self isolate as a girl in her form class tested positive. I wasn’t asked to take part in the new pilot scheme but I’m testing her daily and letting her play out if she’s negative. No way am I keeping her in when it’s hot and she’s not ill. Obviously if she started feeling ill or had a positive lft I’d keep her in.

Dustyboots · 18/07/2021 09:07

Of course it’s just theatre and manipulation to stop the track and trace pinging palava.

But as I’ve said before - I’m sure Javid doesn’t even have Covid. Every single thing they say is made up of lies.

Avocadowoman · 18/07/2021 09:08

As many other have said, this is a genuine pilot. DH was offered it. I don’t think, sadly, it is open to under 18s.

I agree it really doesn’t look great.

Couchbettato · 18/07/2021 09:09

Sick of these "pilot programmes" just basically being a convenient excuse to not miss out on anything.

Dozycuntlaters · 18/07/2021 09:11

I'm self isolating as my son tested positive. I had a phone call from test and trace offering for me to take part in the trial so it is indeed real and people self isolating are given the chance to take part.

Wanttocry · 18/07/2021 09:11

It’s a genuine scheme that lots of employers are signed up to (Downing Street is one).
Why is this scheme not focused on people who will lose salary if asked to self isolate? Boris Johnson works from his house and will be paid regardless. If I was someone who would lose pay if told to self isolate, I’d be furious that I couldn’t benefit from this scheme. I personally wfh anyway, so if asked to isolate it would be a minor irritation, so I don’t need this scheme. It would make a huge difference to other people though.

(I appreciate that other employers signed up to this are important for carrying on with services and that’s presumably why they’re signed up eg border forces, TfL)

pollylocketpickedapocket · 18/07/2021 09:11

@ssd

And if i had kids at school i would stop the self isolation right now.
My dd was isolating from this Tuesday. 5 min in the same house as a positive case(childminders) Neg lft and no we are not isolating for this exact reason. The government are doing as they please plus Kate Middletons isolation was the quickest on record and just in time for the Wimbledon finals! You are a mug if you follow the rules now and if you do don’t be bleating in a few years that your kids has anxiety and social issues.

Yes they’ve just said on BBC news that big employers are signed up, and a small number of other people contacted by T&T will be invited to take part.
Wanttocry · 18/07/2021 09:14

I have no idea on the specifics of KM’s isolation but some of the contact tracing is slow. My friend was contacted by T&T and told she had to isolate for 1 day, because her contact with the person who tested positive was 9 days before T&T got in touch.

Dozycuntlaters · 18/07/2021 09:14

Just to add. This is nothing to do with the app and getting pinged. You won't be offered the trial if you're self isolating because you've been pinged. It's just offered ( I believe) through the NHS test and trace.

Imnothereforthedrama · 18/07/2021 09:15

Just delete the app it’s not a legal requirement from tomorrow to scan in .
I don’t know why it’s needed anyway for me if I’m in work I’ll be told if someone has tested positive or if I meet friends/ family I’ll be told . I’m not isolating because I was in a restaurant at the same time as someone who’s tested positive if I’m sat no where near someone it’s madness .
