those loads of tests are mainly LFTs. We are averaging around 150-200k/day for England .... That is for a pop of 55m. I would not classify it as loads....

QueenStromba · 13/07/2021 18:07

Is it the virus running out of steam or is it behavioural? Most people will modify their behaviour when cases are that high and surge testing will also have helped to break transmission chains.

wintertravel1980 · 13/07/2021 18:13

Is it the virus running out of steam or is it behavioural?

It is probably both. However, if we look at North West, the local authorities that appear to have passed the stage of exponential growth (Bolton, Manchester, etc) are in decline. Others that have not yet been "hit" by this wave (even though the public messaging across GM must have been similar) are still on the rise (e.g. Rochdale).

Regulus · 13/07/2021 18:19

It's nearly impossible for the children in my MAT to catch covid as they have all been in isolation for the majority of June and July. We've had more isolations now than in the whole of 2020 and 2021 up to half term, they finish isolation come back and isolate again.

I know this is not data but might explain why cases are dropping?

I just checked what Spain does 900k in a week (that’s including lft) in a population of 45m. So half of what uk does
EducatingArti · 13/07/2021 18:39

There are masses of schools with groups isolating here in Salford too. One of my year 9 students told me that she and some others had been isolating since last Wednesday and the rest of year 9 since last Thursday and that they would now not be in school again until September.

QueenStromba · 13/07/2021 18:47

And Spain have seen a massive spike in cases in the last month.

JanFebAnyMonth · 13/07/2021 18:49

Hmm @regulus, that clearly explains the new govt policy of no isolation for under 18s from August, then.

Poor students must be awful for them
EasterIssland · 13/07/2021 18:57

Feel awful about this

Almost 1.5m pupils were absent from classes in England's primary and secondary schools last week, a snapshot of one day's official data shows.
The weekly Department for Education figures show about 840,000 were off for Covid-related reasons and a further 630,000 were absent for other reasons.
It means a quarter of secondary pupils were out of class on Thursday last week, and 15% of primary pupils.

Wakeupin2022 · 13/07/2021 19:06

Spain had nearly 44k cases today!

On a personal note, managed to easily book a test today. It was scheduled for 90 mins later although could have got 1 earlier than that.

I am in an area where cases are growing at a very fast rate.

I remember being impressed by Spain being much lower than Germany and France a month or so ago

Think I wondered how they had done it and posted about it. Big change

Placemarking on latest thread ...

boys3 · 13/07/2021 19:30

update on cases covering the weekly rates for the past 6 wks, so the most recent using a two day lag is the seven days to 11th July.

Starting with the England regions then Council areas to follow, Councils by region and sorted high to low within the region. At the top of each set of Councils I've hopefully left in at the top the overall England figure for each of the week's shown and the median council figure.

North East councils; all in the 20 councils with the highest current rates and all continuing on an upward trajectory; although some on a shallower trajectory now than others.

East of England 2 of 2; Cambridge looks to have turned a corner; and just scanning through (all not just East) rates in a number of uni cities look have slowed somewhat.

East Midlands 1 of 2 ; interesting that Leicester not on the first page. Indeed whilst Leicester rates are increasing they are below the median.
