Be thankful that here most vulnerable people are double jabbed, whereas over there it's far, far fewer.

Delta cannot be contained, it's too transmissible.

Gladys the Cowbag & Scummo appear to have “Let Her Rip” as an agenda, it would seem. No intention of trying to hold the fucking virus. No conscience.

www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07-09/coronaivurs-border-restrictions-hard-to-leave-permanently/100274870

Even Australians who want to emigrate permanently are now finding it near impossible to leave. How is this acceptable? Keeping people forcibly trapped in a country against their will is what North Korea does.

Kokeshi123 · 09/07/2021 01:43

Sorry. posted too soon:
There is no justification for this, as those leaving permanently are not going to be taking spaces in Australian quarantine centers or hotels in the future. It also probably contravenes the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which Oz is signed up to.

@Justilou1 Narrative is still on suppressing and extending lockdown. This is from an hour ago-

"With today’s worrying jump in numbers, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian is already preparing Greater Sydney for the lockdown to continue beyond next Friday.
She said NSW is facing “the biggest challenge we have faced since the pandemic started” and “unless there is a dramatic change, unless there is a dramatic turnaround in the numbers, I can’t see how we would be in a position to ease restrictions by next Friday”.

spottygymbag · 09/07/2021 03:41

And for anyone interested our restrictions have been updated. These are on top of the previous ones:

•	Outdoor exercise: two people at a time, down from 10;
•	You can only exercise within your local government area, or within 10km of where you live;
•	No carpooling outside household;
•	Browsing in shops is not allowed, essential shopping only;
•	From Sunday, funerals back down to 10 attendees.
Ozgirl75 · 09/07/2021 04:20

I’m amazed they didn’t do this a couple of weeks ago.

Ozgirl75 · 09/07/2021 04:23

Had my jab this morning and it was a truly slick operation - I was in and out in 30 mins, no queue, loads of friendly helpful staff. They were on number 400 by 9.00 in the morning. Gives me some hope, especially seeing we’re getting more vaccines in in the coming weeks.
Now we just need people to follow the rules. I realise this is easy for me to say as I live in a massive LGA with bush, tennis courts, river etc. Harder for those in the inner city.

DetMcNulty · 09/07/2021 05:51

Scomo is such a lying piece of shit, Pfizer have come out and said no change in quantity of vaccinations.

Justilou1 · 09/07/2021 05:51

@spottygymbag - there’s words, and there’s actions. We will see how long she is willing to lock down to contain it when there is no financial aid available. She was responsible for not locking down hard and fast to begin with. We have learnt each time can’t trust people to stay at home for a couple of days to stop this happening. There will always be an entitled few who think they know better and this is how we end up needing longer lockdowns.

covidandborisandworld · 09/07/2021 05:58

How many cases are there now then ?

SD1978 · 09/07/2021 06:02

They never did a proper lockdown in NSW because they must have figured that they wouldn't comply- unlike the victorians who sat back and did the 2 weeks of full lockdown. Gladys is fully to blame with the shite attempt at a soft lockdown, and then NSW (Sydneysiders) for basically ignoring it. Will be miffed if we end up in yet another sodding Vic lockdown over this.

SD1978 · 09/07/2021 06:03

And the piss poor vaccine uptake rates over here also doesn't help much with getting back to 'covid normal'

FlyingBattie · 09/07/2021 06:34

Australia has almost no natural immunity floating around, and a very low vaccination rate. While they have done well with containing up to now, it was a gamble.
They will be fucked if Delta takes hold there.

StartupRepair · 09/07/2021 06:49

I'm in Melbourne where we have had effective hard lockdowns. Hard in every sense but it is the only way to stop the spread. Gladys is ineffective, deluded and spiteful. She has claimed that Sydney is special and will never need lockdowns. It has been perfectly clear that Sydney is heading over a cliff.
Agree Australia lacks a strategy for the future. We have such woeful leadership from federal government. Selfish, corrupt, hostile to women and families.

Ozgirl75 · 09/07/2021 08:41

I can understand why she did what she did. There is minimal funding for businesses so she’s having to say “please close” and business owners say “so what money do I live on?” “erm, your savings”.
I know there is a bit of support but nothing like last year. If I was a business and I could count myself as essential I would be staying open because bills keep coming.

starfro · 09/07/2021 09:08

Even with 100% of the population vaccinated, there will be a large Delta wave. Aus must be honest with its citizens and change the mindset from terror to acceptance.

Get the jab and it'll be symptomless or a minor cold.

Just look at places like Holland, Greece and Denmark where Delta is currently doubling in 3-6 days. With the original strain, and even Alpha, you could vaccinate enough to stop transmission. With Delta you can't.

A large Delta wave... I think Australia's current outbreak, which involves less than 500 people, while not ideal, is hardly comparable to the Delta wave about to swamp the UK, vaccine or no vaccine. 30 or 40 new cases a day, with lockdown tightening in the Greater Sydney region vs 28,000 plus a day, with restrictions about to be released.

That’s a shame

It sounds like the economy is going ok / well. There could be more funding to help. It would be beneficial in long run as lockdown would be more effective

spottygymbag · 09/07/2021 09:24

What I find frustrating is those who don't still seem to realise that it is coming. They will be same ones who claim that they weren't warned when there is plenty of information from reputable sources easily available and almost unavoidable.
The week we closed our offices again (before official lockdown) DH had colleagues who were pressuring him to still attend a large business lunch in the cbd, and a team pizza party, and wondering why he wasn't attending a conference (500attendees, eventually cancelled the night before).
We were talking with friends in NZ and said we had basically prepared ourselves for the fact we would be getting covid at some point, just hopefully we could hold out till after we were both vaccinated. Friends were shocked and thought we were over reacting but surely we have all known that it won't be closed borders forever.
Naively I had hoped we would get a bit further through the vaccinations first than where we are currently at.

MarshaBradyo · 09/07/2021 09:27

I suppose it’s a big like under 12s here and actually all ages

A lot of mitigations were just to delay so it takes a turnaround in people’s minds to think oh they’re all getting it anyway, just later on.

It was obvious though it would be the case

Justilou1 · 09/07/2021 09:29

There is still nothing at all in the media about the effect that this would have on the indigenous population either. It’s predicted that it would virtually decimate it.

beingsunny · 09/07/2021 09:29

But with only 9% of the population fully vaccinated we can't just tell people to accept it.

We didn't do that on feb last year, and we are almost in the same position as then with su h a low vaxxed population.

I for one want to go back to normal, a relatively (by uk standards) short lockdown, I think we will be another 3 weeks is worth it to get back to zero Covid and living without fear of illness, long Covid or deaths.

The government has announced today that the september delivery of 4.5m Pfizer vaccines will be arriving next month instead of September and has said the whole adult population can be vaxxed by the end of the year.

MarshaBradyo · 09/07/2021 09:30

No you can’t do it now. It would mean you’ve merely delayed what we’ve been through.

starfro · 09/07/2021 09:36

A large Delta wave when they exit restrictions.

Unless they stay locked down forever there will be a large Delta wave.
