Government has clearly given up on trying to protect vulnerable people for whom the vaccine is less effective, and vulnerable children who are not eligible for the vaccine.

What's the alternative though? You can't lock down society forever.

Seems like we're going to spend the next few weeks in perpetual isolation as it's so prevalent at the moment that it seems impossible to avoid coming into contact with Covid unless you can work at home and not have kids at school etc.

We've known for a year haven't we?
AlecTrevelyan006 · 06/07/2021 23:12

Highest recorded number so far is 68,503 on 8 January. I’ll be surprised if it goes higher than that but even if it does it is largely irrelevant so long as the NHS does not become overwhelmed

MercyBooth · 06/07/2021 23:14

Looks like Guardian wanted to go another four weeks.

Be prepared to be surprised then.
Horehound · 06/07/2021 23:16

Get vaccinated and you'll likely be fine. Not a big issue imo.

PandasCatsWolves · 06/07/2021 23:16

Better it runs rampant now whilst it's summer, lots of people are newly vaccinated. Schools are out (almost anyway).

What happens in the autumn remains to be seen. I will eat my hat if there any wren restrictions reintroduced later in the year.

Out of population of almost 70 million, 100000 cases that's what 0.14% of the population with covid. That's staggeringly low.

LawnFever · 06/07/2021 23:18

But if those cases lead to fewer hospitalisations and deaths because of the number of people vaccinated then the number of case numbers isn’t as relevant.

I think they should stop reporting the cases, it’s scare mongering.

Tealightsandd · 06/07/2021 23:19

Negligent manslaughter aside, there's going to be a lot of Long Covid disabled.

By the time the full extent of the Long Covid impact on health and economy is apparent, Boris will have done a Cameron. He won't stick around to face the consequences. Unfortunately for Long Covid patients, that option of just opting out won't be possible.

HairyFloppins · 06/07/2021 23:19

Yes I think we will all get it. I came to that conclusion last year and I did get it. I'm waiting to get it again now. Just hope it's a bit more mild this time.

Tinpotspectator · 06/07/2021 23:21

Pandacatswolves, the most vulnerable were vaccinated January to match, and the last of those done by late April.

And what of the people who's cancer was missed or treatment delayed, heart surgery cancelled, etc etc etc

They didn't have the option to demand services were kept running for them.

Does only covid matter now?

Agreed

Control the virus.

Like the countries who don't really have lockdowns - and also have kept 152,000 more of their people alive that our government has.

Lemonmelonsun · 06/07/2021 23:24

I'm sure I had it (mild last march)

Recently took part in a study and I've got no antibodies.
I've no doubt I will catch it in a higher dose again I just hope when I do ill have access to a hospital

UnChatNoir · 06/07/2021 23:24

Exactly this.

Lemonmelonsun · 06/07/2021 23:25

We can stop information because some people might get scared, many more will get scared if they surpress it... I'm more than happy to forgo reports when it's under control

OnSecondThoughts · 06/07/2021 23:28

I felt a yawn coming, but it couldn't even be bothered.
