Would you have non-vaccinated people in your house?

I am part of a reading group. 8 of us used to meet in each other's houses on a rotating basis. Have been on zoom for last 14 months but we are starting to discuss return to hosting at home.

One member is ardent anti-vaxxer and two other members have said privately that they don't want her in their homes as they believe she presents a higher risk. One has an elderly relative at home and the other a CEV child.

@bumbleymummy but it wasn’t low risk for the 130000 that died and the 1 million people now living with long Covid. And for the people who have not been able to receive the care they need due to long NHS waiting lists and delayed treatment.

bumbleymummy · 03/07/2021 18:30

@UndercoverToad But that doesn’t change the fact that for the majority of people it is low risk. And now we have vaccines to protect those who were more at risk of becoming seriously ill or dying.

UndercoverToad · 04/07/2021 08:50

@bumbleymummy - but my decision to take the vaccine wasn’t purely for self protection. I would categorise myself as low risk, (although I don’t know for sure as I have friends in their thirties who have been hospitalised). A big part of my decision was to help protect others?

bumbleymummy · 04/07/2021 08:53

But again, that doesn’t change the fact that this a mild disease for the majority, which is the point I made that you seem to be arguing against. Most people in the high risk groups have been vaccinated themselves - uptake is over 90% in those groups iirc.

SuperCaliFragalistic · 04/07/2021 08:58

I would but not if I had a CEV person in my house. But then I wouldn't have anyone over, vaccinated or not in those circumstances. Vaccinated people can still infect others.

canigooutyet · 04/07/2021 09:18

Can you still get Long Covid if you've had the vaccination?

If I could have it,that's one of the questions I would want to know as I've been one of the unlucky fuckers that took a long time to recover from other viruses, and some I'm still waiting to recover from after 4 years.

AliceLivesHere · 04/07/2021 10:35

Most people I know have had both vaccines or very soon to have their second. The only anti vax person I know is neighbour across road who has gone quiet after some of the rubbish she said was pointed out to her. No idea if she has changed her mind, probably not but I wouldn't muc with her since odd views on most things.
My children mix with other children every day. Constantly isolating and the children that have had it in our schools all fine and returned after isolating. I very much think that isolating bubbles of school children must stop and it appears it will in September thankfully

Can you still get Long Covid if you've had the vaccination?

Yes, although it can reduce the risk. (By up to a third iirc from a recent study)

Willyoujustbequiet · 04/07/2021 10:52

No way.

I have vulnerable dc. If you arent you arent coming in. Laughable that some replies consider it impolite or disrespectful to ask - but it's ok to expect someone to risk a family member? Hmm

SpnBaby1967 · 04/07/2021 18:29

I'm not in the habit of interrogating people for their medical history before allowing them to cross the threshold of my home.

So I can't see why I would start now. Vaccinated, unvaccinated, dont care either way. Just dont drink all my good wine.

BogRollBOGOF · 04/07/2021 18:52

No CEV issues here. I'm not policing people coming into my house based on their medical choices.

If I did have a CEV family member, I might relocate to somewhere like a pub so that my family member wasn't directly exposed.

The real issue with genuinely anti-vaxx people is that they tend to be quite outspoken and rigid in their points of view, and lacking in logic. That's not refering to specific concerns of this particular vaccine when generally accepting vaccinations.

Nikki078 · 04/07/2021 23:24

I'm curious - maybe the question is - if, having their reasons, someone asked me about my vacc before socialising privately (eg if they have vulnerable family member, are themselves CEV), would I have an issue telling them my vacc status, and why is that?
