Year 1. Came out of self isolation on Tuesday. Just had a message again to say year 1 has to self isolate again. They've not told me when self isolation ends which is great. Is this normal? I'm losing my mind over the constant lack of education and unpaid time off work.

Yep….. I have three in primary school, except they’re never actually IN school these days. Of course they’re all currently off at the moment (they’ve only just gone back).

At the end of my fucking tether with it, I really am.

VaguelyInteresting · 28/06/2021 18:15

Oh OP... so much sympathy for you. My DS starts primary school in September and this is a huge fear of mine. I’m a LP working full time. We’ve been lucky so far and not a single case at his nursery through the whole pandemic, but I doubt we’ll get so lucky at school....

Hope you’re okay- though I don’t see how you can be expected to be really.

ForeverSausages · 28/06/2021 18:21

Thank you both. I'm just so angry. I'm a single parent too. I can't afford to keep taking time off work. If it carries on like this I'll be out of a job. Plus he's been in school for like 4 months out of an entire school year. And being a single parent means I have to self isolate too essentially. I mean when will it end???!!

@ForeverSausages

Fuck knows. I lost my job in the winter because of repeated isolations I’ve managed to pick myself up and get another and now here we are again.

Best of luck to you.

It's just so savage. And I'm struggling to see an end to it. It's just so constant. I expect to have a message from school every day saying "don't bother bringing him in tomorrow".

If I were you I wouldn't let my job know about this or isolate. Do you have anyone who can watch the kid or maybe hire a childminder?

Your family's financials should come first, so what's best for you and ignore the covid police. Good luck

Thank you. My mum might have him for a bit of it but if it's a full 10 days (8 days work) I'll struggle. It's starting to really get me down now as it's so constant.

My bubble hasn’t closed yet, TOUCH WOOD. I strongly feel they need to stop asking children and staff to isolate. It’s absolutely ridiculous. I’ve had one vaccine and I’d choose working with the negative kids whilst positive ones isolate than having to all go off for ten days.

GreenWheat · 28/06/2021 19:40

Close contact isolation in schools has got to stop. Boris and his pals can merrily declare that "schools are open", totally ignoring the mayhem that constant bouts of isolation causes. Loads of people at our secondary school have stopped with the voluntary testing because of this. There has to be a better way. I would favour "test and release".

Hercisback · 28/06/2021 19:41

Remember this next time you vote Tory. They put no extra measures in school and now it's finally becoming obvious to everyone that schools spread it.

I understand your frustration. Blame the government.

Chillychangchoo · 28/06/2021 19:44

@Hercisback

What good will that do? people keep voting the fuckers in. (I certainly didn’t vote for them).

Feel so frustrated.

ForeverSausages · 28/06/2021 19:44

Yeah, schools are not open. It's honestly insane. I mean how can over 100 kids be off because 1 person tested positive??!!

Haha @Hercisback never voted Tory and definitely not about to start now! Smile

OP posts:
Hercisback · 28/06/2021 19:45

Fair enough if you didn't vote for them, many of the people moaning did!

I can't offer any more practical advice sadly. Isolation is grim for all.

Chillychangchoo · 28/06/2021 19:47

@Hercisback

Oh I know a few of them. Moaning like hell but then continuously vote for them.

LemonCake79 · 28/06/2021 19:48

@ForeverSausages, it's just awful. My DCs have done 38 days isolating in total. I know how it feels and I feel really sorry for you.

I was slightly encouraged to see it mentioned in the house today. Javid has asked for a review of evidence around the situation in schools. Fingers crossed there will be changes for September.

PicsInRed · 28/06/2021 19:51

It's particularly harsh for single parents, especially those without family nearby, who effectively have to have 10 full days of supplies in the house at any one time lest the hammer fall on a child's isolation. That's aside from being stuck at home for 10 days, possibly in cramped quarters, with no garden, certainly no education as remote learning has ceased.

Also no job, if mum's job cant be done or done property from home. For many, no job quickly means no home.

This has to stop now.

ForeverSausages · 28/06/2021 19:51

Oh that's promising @LemonCake79 as it's getting beyond ridiculous now. I'm kind of at the point of why bother vaccinating if nothing is going to change? Plus it didn't help at school pick up today that all the kids came out together. All I was thinking was I hope no one has track & trace on their phones as this is beyond stupid. And then an hour later get a message saying yup self isolation again.

OP posts:
ForeverSausages · 28/06/2021 19:53

Thank you @PicsInRed! That's literally it. Some people don't realise that when you're a SP and your child(ren) have to self isolate it essentially means you do too as I can't leave my 6 year old at home alone. Plus 2 self isolations mean I'm missing over half a month's pay. It's actually overwhelming.

OP posts:
Hercisback · 28/06/2021 19:57

Remote learning hasn't ceased. Students isolating should be getting work at home. If a whole bubble is closed, some of this should be live.

Barbie222 · 28/06/2021 19:58

Track and trace has already worked for you, you've been notified by school because your children were mixing without being able to socially distance and as well as "all coming out together" have "all sat together" and "all played together" all day without masks or distancing. What PPs are trying to gently say is that it's the government's policy to spend no money keeping schools safe, so your ire is rather misdirected.

I

screwcovid · 28/06/2021 19:59

So is mine poor kids #enoughisenough

ForeverSausages · 28/06/2021 20:06

We have a PDF sent round in the morning and I have to teach him a full days lessons.

Also I'm not sure what you mean about me ire being misdirected @Barbie222? Genuinely asking. I think it's odd that an entire year is a bubble and that staff, pupils and parent's not having to wear masks. And, yes, I do wish track & trace hadn't worked (that's me being brutally honest because I'm now trying to work out how to be a teacher and also not pay rent this month).

Someone’s been listening to you, OP. Widely reported tonight that isolation is to end for children from September.

And speaking frankly, if all adults in school are vaccinated (or have been offered a vaccine and refused) I think it’s the right thing.

MrsBlondie · 28/06/2021 22:15

@VaguelyInteresting I really hope you're right. Half of year 10 isolation now and they have GCSEs next year. Its totality ridiculous
