Year 1. Came out of self isolation on Tuesday. Just had a message again to say year 1 has to self isolate again. They've not told me when self isolation ends which is great. Is this normal? I'm losing my mind over the constant lack of education and unpaid time off work.

Thanks @heidipi! Reception and year 6 have now been sent home and looks likely that the entire school is going to be shut. Done with it now if I'm honest. Every day is more shite news.

@ForeverSausages OMFG that is a nightmare, huge sympathies and gin vibes coming your way.

I've been a bit fired up by all this and am asking around informally to compare school provision locally - so far we're the only school I've found with no online lessons, I don't know why such a range of experience is allowed really.

Hang in there though xx

@heidipi

If it’s any consolation i now have my year 6,5 and year 1 off with zero online lessons. We had some worksheets for the year 6 but nothing for the other two.

Disgusting. I’m sick of chasing for work for my kids.

Yeah I think it's so strange that there's just no online lessons. My sister works for a primary school and they have full online lessons. I said maybe it's because some of the children don't have access to a laptop etc and she said those children have been provided with a Chromebook. No one from the school replies to me about anything (asked about the isolation dates, home learning and just get no response). Half the parents in my son's class have said they're not doing any of the home learning but some of the kids have already been struggling with how far behind they are. I'm at a loss. And I need all the gin Grin.

Re online lessons, I think our school can only do online lessons if all the kids in the group are off (as the teacher can't be doing 2 things at once).

Our school said one reason they can't do online lessons when the whole group is isolating, is because of breaching GDPR - i.e. whether or not they have their usual teacher reveals whether or not the teacher is ill, so breaches their GDPR by revealing their personal health info.

During lockdown, 2 of the three teachers per year (there are 3 year groups usually) were teaching children in school in mixed groups from the usual classes, and the other teacher was uploading lessons and marking for children at home. So that teacher could have done online lessons, but school wouldn't because of safeguarding and unfair access to laptops.

I don't doubt that these concerns are genuine at all, but some schools are managing to overcome them.

TotorosCatBus · 01/07/2021 12:54

I heard that the problem with primary online lessons is that laptops are often shared and because of siblings, it's impossible for most to commit to logging in online at a specific time. Some schools have managed it but the parent has to sit in the lesson too which is difficult if you are wfh or have a baby or preschool child to manage too.
