Year 1. Came out of self isolation on Tuesday. Just had a message again to say year 1 has to self isolate again. They've not told me when self isolation ends which is great. Is this normal? I'm losing my mind over the constant lack of education and unpaid time off work.

@SausageFrog

When did I say it was an amazing job? I didn’t and no thanks I wouldn’t want to join such an overly precious profession.

heidipi · 30/06/2021 10:21

@SausageFrog I have never said it's an amazing job or that anyone is having a great time.

I haven't questioned our school's approach at all until now and I just asked if they would consider providing some online lessons in the event of another lockdown. They said no. So now I am wondering why some schools can do it and others can't. That is it.

Chillychangchoo · 30/06/2021 10:22

@heidipi

I know what you mean about the upheaval but I am now seriously worried about my children’s education in relation to what other children are receiving. The disparity is too large now.

Fingers crossed for September hey but I’m not that hopeful.

ForeverSausages · 30/06/2021 10:42

Today's maths lesson is name all the 3D shapes. But with no pictures of 3D shapes. How is he supposed to do that independently and also take a photo/video of him doing it? I'm sorry, but that's not teaching. Honestly it's an A5 PDF with a sentence for each lesson.

@ForeverSausages

But your child’s teacher is currently on their knees don’t you know. 🤨

TeddingtonTrashbag · 30/06/2021 13:08

Maybe they will stop moaning in September after they have all been double jabbed
In real life teachers are not moaning - only on MN! Weird how MN has let ‘em rip and tar all teachers with that brush…

Chillychangchoo · 30/06/2021 13:20

@TeddingtonTrashbag

I actually do agree and I’ll admit my words have been impulsive this morning regarding teachers. I’m not impressed with my children’s school but that’s another matter entirely and I know other schools remote provision is a lot better. I worked as a TA during the winter peak and the online provision really was very good. Despite the demographic of the area being disadvantaged.

I did lose that job however due to my own children’s isolation periods. The headteacher lost patience with my repeated periods of absence. The teachers I worked with didn’t spout half the shit that mumsnet ones do mind.

Parallel universe on here.

If people stopped testing children then this could end

The problem is that any child who's snotty or has a cough (even due to hayfever) has to have a negative test to continue to attend school, or even technically to legally leave the house, so parents don't really have this choice.
Chillychangchoo · 30/06/2021 14:47

@wordsareveryunnecessary

No one willingly tests at my children’s school. The teachers request your child has a PCR. If they fail to have one they’re not allowed back on site. Mine have had negative PCRs for hayfever and asthma.

Hercisback · 30/06/2021 14:57

School cannot refuse to take a child without a PCR. They can send them home every day but cannot send home.

Chillychangchoo · 30/06/2021 14:59

@Hercisback

Pardon?

Hercisback · 30/06/2021 15:02

School can't say no to your child, they aren't allowed to expect a test result.

They can send a child with symptoms home every day though. They can't send them home for 10 days unless isolating.

Chillychangchoo · 30/06/2021 15:05

Ahh I see. Sending them home every day though isn’t ideal. That’s how they’re getting positive results I guess, not because parents are willingly just testing.

ForeverSausages · 30/06/2021 18:24

What I find strange is that he must had contact with someone on Monday that tested positive on Monday? Why would they have been at school then? And you wouldn't have got a positive result from a PCR that quickly?

I have nothing against teachers in general. My issue is with my son's school.

OP posts:
Hercisback · 30/06/2021 18:37

How does that timeline work? The contact could have been Friday, PCR Saturday and result Sunday?

ForeverSausages · 30/06/2021 18:47

Literally that @Hercisback. I don't get the timeline? We've been told to self isolate for 10 days from Monday which doesn't make sense to me. Unless the person that tested posted was in school on Monday when they tested positive? But I thought if you tested posted on a lateral flow test, you'd have to go for a PCR test to confirm.

OP posts:
ForeverSausages · 30/06/2021 18:49

But the 10 days self isolation is from when they test positive if no symptoms. If symptoms, from the date of symptoms. He wasn't in school Saturday or Sunday so if last contact was Friday it should be 10 days from Friday? Am I going mad? Haha.

OP posts:
Hercisback · 30/06/2021 18:50

Yes you would. But if LFT was Monday, then you can start isolating from then and wait for PCR. Could have been Sunday eve LFT.

ForeverSausages · 30/06/2021 18:54

Exactly what I thought. Seems odd that they've told us to self isolate for 10 days from Monday. And also if they tested positive on a lateral flow test on Sunday why would they be in school on the Monday? As his last contact at school was the Friday or Monday. It doesn't make a huge amount of difference apart from the £80 a day wages I'm losing but I just can't work it out.

Haha yay I'm not going mad. I just can't work out their dates. Unless someone tested positive and went into school but we've been told it's a staff member so that just seems bizarre. And if they're waiting for a PCR test result why not say we're waiting on the result, self isolate for now.

@Hercisback

certainly no education as remote learning has ceased

Remote learning hasn't ceased. Students isolating should be getting work at home. If a whole bubble is closed, some of this should be live.

Nope. Some schools do and some schools don't. Complaining doesn't work either. It's rubbish.

Constantly isolating and for what exactly. Done with this crap now. Time to treat it like any other virus. Only covid seems to matter now.

It's worth asking the school to check the isolation period if you haven't already - initially my DD was supposed to be off from this Monday, going back next Wed but an eagle eyed parent realised it didn't add up and asked them to check with the DFE and hey presto it turns out there was a miscount and the class can return next Monday. It's complicated and mistakes happen, but no harm in asking politely if they will check.
