Moving Moderna 2nd Jabs Sooner

I have read that over 40s are encouraged to move their 2nd jabs sooner. Has anyone successfully cancelled and rebooked for sooner? My partner is wary of cancelling and ending up with a longer interval. Thanks!

I moved my AZ jab sooner - I did it late at night, figuring I would rebook my old slot if there was nothing sooner available!

Forgottenyeti · 13/06/2021 11:41

I've not tried yet but I've not seen a post from anyone who successfully managed it on the other moderna threads.

AZ is obviously a different kettle of fish and over 40s have been able to move second jabs for weeks.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/06/2021 12:22

I’m in Scotland and had a letter for my second Moderna this week, much sooner than I would have expected. (We just get given a slot, no booking) I think I will be seven weeks between jabs. I’m 40s.

My ex-H got his call for 2nd moderna jab today - 8.5 weeks. I had my first on the same day / same place as him, so I went along & asked (was there anyway dropping off dd who had letter for her first one). They said in theory it should be a 9 week recall but did me anyway as I was there :) (Wales, Hywel Dda)

SlipperyLizard · 13/06/2021 13:07

My DH had moderna, I had AZ. We both went to re-book last week after my SIL managed to move hers. I got an appointment 4 weeks earlier, DH managed an appointment 3 hours (yes, hours) earlier but slightly closer to home. I guess the supply of Moderna dictates when they can offer it.

BarberQueue · 13/06/2021 13:19

My sister, brother, brother-in-law and I all managed to mover our AZ jabs forward three weeks. DH only managed to move his Moderna forward three days. As Moderna is needed for first jabs I imagine that it will be difficult to move the date forward significantly.

No luck here

I had AZ 7 weeks ago and on sat moved it by 4 weeks to next Monday. That was the earliest I could but I had loads of options over 2 weeks to choose from v close to me.

Dh had moderna 7 weeks ago and, after seeing how easily I did, tried moving it. There was absolutely nothing for miles for him and somehow he got his original appointment back. (He's gutted he didn't get AZ now.)

We are the same age, mid 40's so there must be lots of AZ available, which is why dh encouraged me to try rebooking. Obviously younger age groups are using moderna and Pfizer so it may not happen until they know they've stocks.

With first booking we found we found we could book by accident and with nhs number a few days before the official announcement so I've wondered if the same has happened for me but not him yet.

TheDukeissoHot1 · 13/06/2021 22:29

Can over 40’s definitely move their appointment earlier? I saw an article in a newspaper saying they would be able to get theirs within 8 weeks but not seen any formal announcements at all.

How do you do this? Can you reschedule on the nhs booking site or do you have to cancel the original appointment first? What if you cancel then there’s nothing available any sooner?

Normandy144 · 13/06/2021 22:30

I tried moving my Moderna one earlier and managed to move it earlier by 4 days. DH who had AZ on the same day as me but at a different site was able to move his 2nd forward by 4 weeks. Blooming annoying!! I will keep trying as I guess things can change but it's very annoying.

I took the risk as needed to change it anyway and Dh pointed out that they'd still have to offer one within 12 weeks of the first.

I had the choice of at least two weeks worth of fully free days at my nearest vax centre; many other local places listed, from the 8 week mark.

He couldn't get an appointment for miles, he said there was one over 80 miles away but still the same day. (Moderna)

The system offered him his original appointment back. I wonder if they hold it for 24 hours or something before re releasing?

WarriorN · 14/06/2021 10:45

But I was AZ.

Forgottenyeti · 14/06/2021 13:28

Did it offer it back separately or was it just one of the available appointments? 🤔

WarriorN · 14/06/2021 13:34

I'm really not sure!

Forgottenyeti · 14/06/2021 13:45

I'm so scared to try and end up with a worse date/time 🤣😭

WarriorN · 14/06/2021 14:24

That was my worry.

Dh reasoned you can't be left without an appointment within 12 weeks.

I discussed it with the helpline first.

sunnyday1976 · 14/06/2021 15:06

I tried but could only get one 7 hours earlier than my previously booked one!!

Forgottenyeti · 14/06/2021 18:24

Well he's just said he's accelerating over 40s. Can't see this working with moderna.

SecretKeeper1 · 14/06/2021 18:27

Pretty sure it’s only AZ that can be done earlier on the NHS site, 8 weeks instead of 11/12.

None of my Pfizer / Moderna contacts have managed to bring theirs forward, but all the AZ have. Must be a supply issue I think.

beggsie · 14/06/2021 18:41

If anyone manages to do it (or even dares to try now!), it's be good to hear.

Chewbecca · 14/06/2021 18:44

I daren’t try! Will watch this thread closely though.
I had mine at Islington. Can people who do try state which centre they’re booked at please if they don’t mind sharing?

NLondondiva · 14/06/2021 19:00

Chewbacca, i had my Moderna jab in Islington too and have been unable to move it any earlier. It could be a supply issue I suppose - maybe they are still prioritising 1st vaccinations of under 40s (it’s down to 25 now) who can only have Moderna or Pfizer.
It was easy to rebook for the original day though so I’m going to wait until next week and try again!

Cheesecake53 · 14/06/2021 19:20

I just cancelled and rebooked for three weeks earlier at Guy's 1st vaccination centre. There were many slots available.

beggsie · 14/06/2021 19:39

That's great news, Cheesecake. I'm at Malvern Showground but would happily travel further. I've only got 3 weeks to wait though so am vexed as to whether it's worth it.
