How will a third wave look?

Tigerblue · 11/06/2021 12:47

We could possibility at the start of a third wave. How do others think it'll look? I don't think restrictions will be lifted on 21st June. We still have a way to go with vaccines, but we're doing well so I'm really hoping we've got enough vaccinated to keep numbers much lower than the previous wave and the NHS can cope (especially with a backlog of operations/treatments which surely will have to be prioritised for some of the hospital beds). Also, we can manage to keep everything open - this is more hope on my part.

I think it will look like civil unrest👀

Thewiseoneincognito · 11/06/2021 13:05

With school summer holidays coming up and hopefully decent weather we could drag out this wave, watch the numbers over he next few weeks. A wave smack bang in the middle of 6 weeks holidays would be a disaster for tourism.

If it manages to swell up during warm weather then come autumn and winter we may face significant problems.

GiantToadstool · 11/06/2021 13:07

I'm nervous that each wave gets bigger and that this is how the next few years will be with things opening and shutting and switching to remote school etc.

Maybe enjoy the summer and the wave grows in winter?!

TheClaws · 11/06/2021 13:20

@QioiioiioQ

I think it will look like civil unrest👀

Are you going to hold up signs like "F**k you, virus!" or "Citizens Against COVID" or, my favourite, "Voters Versus Variants!" That should do it. Grin

socialmediamishap · 11/06/2021 13:20

@Thewiseoneincognito do you just troll the boards looking to spread negativity?

@GiantToadstool unlikely. If the vaccines don't sort it out this year then we're stuffed and will have to get on with it. no one is going to spend a 2nd Christmas away from their families.

GiantToadstool · 11/06/2021 13:22

I agree people won't spend time away from families again. I really don't know what they would do to try and contain it...

socialmediamishap · 11/06/2021 13:25

@GiantToadstool everyone will be fully vaccinated by then including over 12s and the boosters. Science will do its job. This summer / winter is nothing like last year because we have vaccines, don't forget that!

Covid isn't going away - the key will be the media dialling down the fear factor so we can all actually move on.

Troll the boards? How is what I have posted trolling? Surely you’re capable of frank open discussion amongst adults about the possible implications a third wave could bring? Having a hypothesis is not spreading negativity.

You should do some research you may find yourself agreeing with me.

GiantToadstool · 11/06/2021 13:26

We were already fed the "vaccines will solve everything" last time though weren't we? I initually assumed once everyone (or at least once the vulnerable) were vaccinated we'd be fine. But it doesnt seem quite like that.

Flaxmeadow · 11/06/2021 13:26

No one knows, there is no instruction manual, it's a new virus. Hopefully the vaccine programme will help keep numbers low in a third wave

Jumbojem · 11/06/2021 13:26

Some of us still have to spend time away from our families as they are abroad!
I'm hopeful a third wave is only in case numbers mainly in the unvaccinated young and that vaccinations hold out against variants so hospitalisations/deaths stay low.

QioiioiioQ · 11/06/2021 13:30

Are you going to hold up signs like "Fk you, virus!" or "Citizens Against COVID" or, my favourite, "Voters Versus Variants!" That should do it
Me? No, if there is civil unrest I will not be participating!

socialmediamishap · 11/06/2021 13:31

@GiantToadstool we are no where near the point that every has had two vaccines though, we've got a long way to go.

@Thewiseoneincognito most here can have discussions but you are 3 other posters are prolific on these boards and share you negative views and predictions. If you click onto a covid thread then you can guess the usernames that will show up and what they will say.

I can rationally see numbers are going up - we can't press on with 21st June and maybe even dial back on the freedoms we have until more are vaccinated but once everyone is we cannot continue to live with restrictions as there is no end date and people simply won't do it.

Dreamer2468 · 11/06/2021 14:04

I would suspect it with peak at around 50-75k cases per day and 100 or so deaths per day based on the %s without a second dose. There will be rapid spread in schools very shortly forcing some to close early for the summer. This will not be controlled until next year based on vaccinating 12 to 18 year olds in august and then waiting 12 weeks for their second dose. I suspect we will avoid another full lockdown though. NHS waiting lists for non covid treatment will continue to grow. Increasing numbers of counties will prevent UK citizens from travel due to concerns over the Indian variant.

With the high infection numbers we will have to hope the virus does not mutate further to become resistant. If it doesn't I can see next year looking more normal.

SonnetForSpring · 11/06/2021 14:05

I think it's too early to say. Fewer deaths from covid. But NHS care for other conditions will be less so there may be more deaths from other things. I don't think it will be a full lockdown. If it is it will be shorter. I think something will have to be down to get the case numbers down before sept with schools/unis and winter coming. I really hope we do not get another more transmissable variant than the delta or on that can escape the vaccines. I feel it is likely to happen though as people have had enough of the rules and most are not vaccinated or partially vaccinated.

SonnetForSpring · 11/06/2021 14:07

Travel abroad will definitely be affected for the foreseeable.

Nonmaquillee · 11/06/2021 14:07

I don't know. I'm not watching any more, it's unbearable.

NannyAndJohn · 11/06/2021 14:13

The government will once again fail to act until we have people dying in droves, at which point we'll be forced into a full lockdown for the rest of the year.

Sigh.

You’ve already got a full house Social, We’re all the same person.

🙄

JellyBabiesFan · 11/06/2021 14:23

I think we will start to open up and the third wave will be a shit load of people that did not want the vaccine. They had their chance.

These posters aren't wrong. So I don't know why everyone complains about them! They simply understand and follow what is going on. Which most people don't seem to.

socialmediamishap · 11/06/2021 14:43

@SonnetForSpring I did nearly include you in the all star line up but you'd written in a pp that you didn't think we'd end up back in full lockdown whereas Nanny thinks we'll be in one for the rest of the year.

Happy to include you going forward :)

SonnetForSpring · 11/06/2021 14:51

What can I say, I was feeling particularly optimistic and hopeful the the government reintroduce some restrictions so we don't have a full lockdown Smile

AuntieStella · 11/06/2021 14:58

I was wondering if the June step will be delayed until schools break up.

Because of there's only so much risk that we can carry, and schooling is to be prioritised, it might be a bad idea to have further mixing whilst that vector is open. Then we have a largely unrestricted summer (but within UK, no widespread international travel) and see how it all looks in the autumn
