This is so very sad

FFS. The vaccine is not totally safe. Life has a 100% death risk. Long covid. Clots from covid.

Basic maths and risk assessment. And don't fucking get in a car if you are this risk averse.

Still, the process isn't failproof

My mistake, the deaths happened within a trial on children.

But this happened after the dengue vaccine was licsenced;

However much you argue that the vaccine is safe, the fact is that there is zero information about long-term effects of it. Just not possible because of the time-frame in which it was developed. Therefore, it is unknown and there may be some people who don’t want to take that risk. It might turn out that there are no long-term adverse effects and that the vaccine is totally fine. It may turn out that there are. We simply don’t know. Those that have mentioned Thalidomide are entirely correct. That was also deemed to be safe and it’s only in hindsight that we know it wasn’t. Yes, there are no doubt strict testing protocol but you still won’t know long term effects until the long term.

TuesdayRuby · 28/05/2021 10:48

It’s all about risk IMO. There’s risks in everything we do. I (usually) cycle into work every day. I used to (far too frequently) see young, healthy people killed in bike collisions. Even though it made me think and stop, it still didn’t deter me from riding my bike. And that’s a far higher risk than becoming ill through the vaccine. Like a pp said, it’s up to you to take that risk but as long as people understand you’re far more likely to be in a car accident than become ill from the vaccine. And people do that without a second thought.

I don't want to get into a row as I tend to just lurk and read posts these days but this is my experience. I think it is important to speak out and share.

A male friend, 56, had a stroke a few days after his AZ jab.

Several friends of mine have someone they know directly who have had terrible life-changing reactions. One friend knows a lady, mid 40's and previously healthy, who is now blind. She lost 100% in one eye and 80% vision in the other within days of the jab I believe. She has had numerous tests but has been told that nothing can be done.

Another friend has a female neighbour, 40 and previously a big keep-fit person, who also went blind shortly after being jabbed.

Another friend's DM has a next door neighbour who is her best friend, 70, who woke up the morning after her jab paralysed from the waist down.

These life-destroying reactions to the jabs are not mere statistics to dismiss with "Oh, but it didn't affect me." or "I am fine after the jabs apart from a dull ache in my arm.". These are real people whose lives have been destroyed. Changed forever.

I subsequently have done some searching online and have been horrified to see just how many people are having similar terrible injuries after being jabbed. I am shocked that the BBC and other main news sites are not reporting them. Why?

Endofether · 28/05/2021 10:51

No way will I be giving permission if they try and jab my kids

Thing is, even if there are a few sad deaths like this, the government can only view the UK as a mass population, not as individuals. The maths is simple - more deaths will occur and the economy will continue suffer unless they downplay risks and encourage everyone to get the vaccine. Utterly tragic for those families who loved ones do die from vaccine-related issues of course, and I'm sure they will feel furious with the government about it. But ultimately that's irrelevant when dealing with a population of 60+ million.

Depending on how old they are it may be their decision not yours. My eldest is 15 and more than capable of deciding for himself. It will be his choice
RedcurrantPuff · 28/05/2021 11:10

@Larkstongues

Thalidomide is absolutely relevant as, just like these vaccines, people were told they were safe when they were not. Absolutely relevant.
60 years ago. Times and science have changed

Testing medicines was changed as a result with the effect that catastrophic side effects like those for thalidomide would now be captured very quickly

Thalidomide is still also used. Just not in women who are or may become pregnant.

Why it keeps getting parroted on about now is beyond me. Well I do know actually. Anti vaxxers trying to peddle their agenda by baselessly scaring others

Absolutely this.

Smallpox vaccine also has horrendous side effects. At a population level it was better than smallpox running rife.

Are these vaccines perfect? No but they are good enough for now. We don’t have the luxury of time and allowing tens of thousands more people to die while we await the perfect vaccine. Better vaccines will come in time.

RedcurrantPuff · 28/05/2021 11:14

@RachyRoo89

I just want to add; please do not get the vaccine if you are not sure, and feel pressured to by the TV/online propaganda, or have a ton of peer pressure on your shoulders. It has NOT been approved by the EMA and only has "Conditional Marketing Authorisation". If you suffer side effects, you don't have a legal leg to stand on. If you are young, you have an extremely good chance of fighting Covid-19 with your immune system. Look after yourselves, your minds and bodies, reject the government lockdowns and bloody live your best lives. You only get one shot. Flowers

Keep your eyes open and look away from the mainstream media - there is a lot we do not know about this entire situation, and if you want to find out more truths, you will. Ignorance is bliss, until your World starts collapsing around you.

How can you live your best lives and ignore lockdowns when everything is closed down including people’s places of work?
Endofether · 28/05/2021 11:16

@RedcurrantPuff yes it will be my choice as they are all under 16

Well, remember that initially the advice was for pregnant women not to have the vaccine. Now it’s suddenly changed. It’s genuinely too early to tell whether there will be adverse effects because of the timescales involved. You can tell yourself all you want that another medical scandal like thalidomide wouldn’t happen today but you simply don’t know.

Fishandhips · 28/05/2021 11:27

Is BBC the only news outlet then? Better tell the others. Also since cutting funding for the BBC quite savagely recently I'm not sure they're the biggest fans. The issue with a forum is no one knows who is talking crap and who isn't- yes there are side effects but none of us know if someone happens to know several people who have gone blind, but some will read that as gospel, scary really.

Actualfactual · 28/05/2021 11:37

EnidSpyton, excellent post.

When Matt Hancock changed the AZ to over 40s only he was asked about mothers in their 40s still getting the AZ jab. He responded that they were "not a materially significant cohort." Tell that to this lady's poor little boys. It's so sad. Most other countries are using AZ only for over 50s or 60s.

Some people seem to know loads of people with massive adverse reactions. Yet I know tons and tons of people who have had it. No one has had any real issues. Only on here have I heard of these things. Odd
TulipVictory · 28/05/2021 11:41

I've had my first AZ & have decided I will not be having my second. I have struggled the last couple of weeks with what to do but I am set on my choice now.

CrunchyCarrot · 28/05/2021 11:42

So there's a pre-print out that gives a very plausible explanation for these severe clotting events that have happened after having the AZ vaccine.

"Vaccine-Induced Covid-19 Mimicry” Syndrome:"

Splice reactions within the SARS-CoV-2 Spike open reading frame result in Spike protein variants that may cause thromboembolic events in patients immunized with vector-based vaccines.

Me too! I'm suspicious too of these posts. Most people I know have had it and the worst I've heard of is feeling run down for a few days. Yet people here know lots of people who've gone blind, had stokes and died.

---

I do understand the anxiety but I think it's a shame that some people have had a first dose and now due to stories aren't going for their second. Reactions are much more likely on your first so I don't see the logic in this and you're just lowering your immunity coverage.

stressfuljune · 28/05/2021 11:55

I have huge network does my partner.
My work exposes me to vast numbers of people. I've not heard of any adverse reactions except a few with flu like symptoms on first and nothing at all on second.

stressfuljune · 28/05/2021 11:57

@Twoforthree

There is a risk with the vaccine or there is a risk of long COVID or death. Either choice has risk. To me it’s a no brainier. I know several people in their forties, suffering long COVID.

I also know of a woman in her forties who died of a blood clot - but it was when she actually had COVID. Not unusual apparently.

COVID can cause clots. That's what often people aren't realising. Its part of what can kill people
Endofether · 28/05/2021 12:16

I’ve recently had a positive antibody test . If it’s the time I suspect then I was barely ill with just weird taste in mouth
