Deaths aren't increasing

Please please jump in and correct me on this if I'm being thick, but as a general rule even though cases are rising, deaths aren't.

Surely this is proof of vaccines working and therefore a good thing?

Please point to where I suggested that anyone shit themselves? There is a middle ground possible; things are going well in some parts of the country but there are problems in another that need attention to ensure they don't spread. You don't need to deny anyone is unwell with covid in Bolton to still be pleased with progress elsewhere.

Watapalava · 26/05/2021 20:02

Many people who are in hospital and have covid are not acfually in hospital with covid given all tested on admittance

That’s been confirmed by gov many times

I think we’ll just have to wait and see over the next week or two. Sorry if I brought doom and gloom to the party but I’m just seeing that our nice steady decrease has stalled a bit.

Fingers crossed it’s just a little blip due to opening up last week, and that the rapid vaccine rollout in areas of concern will kick its ass.

Quartz2208 · 26/05/2021 21:06

That article does say though

“People are presenting with a range of problems and staff are working very hard to ensure they receive all the care they need as quickly and efficiently as possible,”

WHich to me says that it isnt all COVID and one issue may well be that it is a perfect storm of more COVID patients and more people feeling confident to go back to A&E and more accidents as people release from lockdown

The danger being that hospitals are an area for spreading

One death reported today

x2boys · 31/05/2021 22:27

It's a bank holiday weekend though ,deaths have been very low recently and long may that continue ,but deaths artificially lower at the weekend particularly bank holiday weekend,s ,we need to see what happens in the next couple of weeks.

Monday deaths in May - 1,4,5,3,1

Average for the months is less than 10 deaths a day

Indian variant has been in this country since beginning of April

Average deaths during the first half of September was fewer than 10.

We all know what happened next.

Difference now is we have vaccine

NannyAndJohn · 31/05/2021 23:08

We also have a new variant which is ~67% more transmissible than the Kent Variant.

Which itself was ~60% more transmissible than Original Covid.

tobee · 01/06/2021 02:40

Pretty sure they don't yet know it's transmission percentage yet.

67% is the upper estimate. 10% is the lower.

Can I add, regarding the hospitalisations, I thought that the number to look at was the number of patients in hospital with covid. Not admissions. As admission could be a very short, get in, get treated and get out but the numbers in hospital with covid is an indication of the state of hospitals.

moregarlic · 01/06/2021 07:18

Can I suggest if anyone is reading this thread and feeling anxious...have a go at unplugging from mumsnet / the news / social media for a few days. Looking after your mental health is so important at the moment.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 01/06/2021 16:05

Zero deaths reported today

Bordois · 01/06/2021 16:06

@AlecTrevelyan006

Zero deaths reported today
I literally just came to see if you had seen that!
Overthebow · 01/06/2021 16:15

It was bank holiday yesterday so lower deaths would have been reported, but zero is brilliant even so. No sign of them rising yet.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 01/06/2021 16:19

Tuesday 4 May - day after previous bank holiday - four deaths were reported

So definitely down on that then, great Grin
Skiptheheartsandflowers · 01/06/2021 16:25

Just saw the news that there are zero deaths recorded today. I know there's the bank holiday lag to consider but it feels good. The vaccines are working.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 02/06/2021 11:12

From the BBC
...

The number of deaths registered in the UK in the week ending 21 May was 11,214, which is 3% below the five-year average.

Of those deaths 115 involved Covid-19, 49 fewer than the previous week and the fourth lowest announced in any week since the first lockdown.

The lowest is 83, for the week ending 4 September. The weeks before and after saw 110 and 111 Covid deaths announced respectively.

Zero Covid Day was wonderful.

It's a shame it was only one day though.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 06/06/2021 17:34

reported deaths week ending 6 June - 59
reported deaths week ending 30 May - 60

Fleek · 06/06/2021 17:45

It's very reassuring to see deaths remain so low. The Indian variant has been building for weeks now and we would be seeing a significant rise in deaths already if that was going to be an issue. I'm sure they will go up, but at the moment I feel like the vaccine is showing us what it can do.

PrincessNutNuts · 06/06/2021 20:08
