Anyone else not getting their 2nd AZ dose?

I'm 29 and am due my 2nd dose of AZ this Saturday. I'm absolutely beside myself with anxiety about the blood clot thing. Is anyone else not going to get the second dose?

OP posts:
laughinggasssing · 20/05/2021 14:10

The risk is statistically minuscule. You are more at risk of blood clots and dying from Corona.
I'm getting mine happily.

Pinotwoman82 · 20/05/2021 14:11

I’m getting my second at the weekend and can’t wait

Rainbowsandstorms · 20/05/2021 14:13

I’m in my 30s and not due mine for another 3 weeks. I’m undecided and I think only the emerging data will help me to make a decision. In Ireland they have postponed second doses for low risk under 50s until 16 weeks so that’s my back up if I remain unsure. If you’re naturally risk adverse it’s a very difficult decision to make.

whataballbag · 20/05/2021 14:21

I was due to get mine this Saturday but after today's figures I'm not keen

TheExtraGuineaPig · 20/05/2021 14:22

I've just brought my second dose forward, can't wait to be fully vaccinated and reduce the risk of all the things Coronavirus can cause and reduce the risk of passing it on.

MegCleary · 20/05/2021 14:23

@whataballbag what are the figures?

whataballbag · 20/05/2021 14:24

Number of second dose VITT has doubled from last week to 15.

Someone worked it out on another thread as roughly 1 in around 250k

Scoose · 20/05/2021 14:24

I had mine yesterday and have got the horrible side effects again but I would still prefer that to covid

Solomonseals · 20/05/2021 14:24

Just had my second yesterday. Reluctantly. Feel like shite today!

AuntieMarys · 20/05/2021 14:24

Just had mine today.

OodieWoodie · 20/05/2021 14:24

I'm not having my second dose.

Not because of the blood clotting risks. It is purely my own anecdotal experience of feeling like death after my first dose.

LaLaLouella · 20/05/2021 14:26

Have your second dose - the risk is incredibly small.

mahguy · 20/05/2021 14:27

I don't know what to do tbh.

ForeverInADay · 20/05/2021 14:29

Please please have your 2nd doses. The risk is small.

Have you ever taken contraceptive pills?

Have you flown long haul?

If the answer is yes then it's illogical to put yourself at risk of covid and your loved ones.

amicissimma · 20/05/2021 14:32

I felt grotty after my first dose. Nothing at all after the second.
mahguy · 20/05/2021 14:33

I don't take the pill.

I'm not adverse to another dose. I just want to know if it's better to have a longer gap 12 wks vs 8 or are mixed doses more effective.

All of this in spades.
Gymsmile21 · 20/05/2021 14:35

I was running to get my first dose, just been called for second and I’m reluctant to go. I’m 32 so young and everyone my age is having the other one whilst mine is AZ.

Gymsmile21 · 20/05/2021 14:35

Tbf I’ve never flown long haul or take contraceptives.

crumpet · 20/05/2021 14:36

@OodieWoodie I felt dreadful after my first dose - had the second earlier this week and had zero reaction - did a 5k the next morning without even thinking about it.

ApplesinmyPocket · 20/05/2021 14:40

My DD (31) had A-Z and just booked without hesitation for her second dose in June. She is a scientist, she understands the risks and they are tiny. Really, really tiny.

I don't suppose that will comfort anyone anxious but I just thought I'd say it in case it does.

Lavendersquare · 20/05/2021 14:46

The second is so important to have, the first one promotes anti bodies similar to having had actual covid, these give you protection for up to 6 months. The second does however does something in your body that promotes the creation of other things (I'm no scientist and can't remember the name) that stay in your body for life, and give you a chance of fighting future covid outbreaks even if there is a variant.

The risk of clotting with the Astra Zeneca jab seem to be on the first dose, I can't find any mention of clots on the second jab.

Please please go for the second jab, all risks associated are minuscule when compared to the risk of serious illness from covid.

FuzzyPuffling · 20/05/2021 14:46

I have a blood clotting disorder and have had both doses of AZ.
HURRAH! I couldn.t be more pleased/relieved and am fine.
Miniscule risk...just do it

hedgehogger1 · 20/05/2021 14:56

Booked in for mine. Eager to have it

whataballbag · 20/05/2021 15:01

The type of clots caused by flights or the pill are completely different.

The type of clots caused with the vaccine are a completely new thing unfortunately.

I wish I was skipping happily to get the second as I did for the first but when you already have health anxiety the rising numbers of clots after second doses with no acknowledgement from the 'higher ups' are concerning. Especially when every other country seems to not want to take the risk.
