Does anyone else think the trial club nights at Liverpool are a mistake?

Trial club nights 6000 people no masks or social distancing. You have to have had negative lateral test before attending and are 'encouraged' not compulsory for pcr test 5 days after.
I think this is too soon to be trialling large crowds when people can't even go in their mums house indoors

OP posts:
LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 01/05/2021 09:34

They're doing this with the Brits as well. Don't think as many capacity but no distancing and masks. Good!! Got to start somewhere and get things going again. Hopefully all the signs from it will be postive

TempsPerdu · 01/05/2021 09:34

No, I hope everyone there last night had a brilliant time. The footage I saw looked absolutely joyful.

Marguerite2000 · 01/05/2021 09:35

No, it's a great idea, OP. Hope everyone enjoyed it.

eveoha · 01/05/2021 09:35

I’m in L’pool and am not happy that Matt Ashton (incompetent buffoon) allows these ‘experiments’ to be carried out - totally at variance with scientific methods to let those involved not be followed up for further testing - was ‘track and trace’ utilised? We now have thousands of potentially infected people in a city which has areas with very high infection levels and very poor suppression levels - I do wonder what Matt Ashton’s motivation was and more importantly ’cui Bono’?

rookiemere · 01/05/2021 09:43

I think it's a wonderful idea. I have no desire to go clubbing, but I remember being a young person and wanting to go out with my friends and meet men.

Our young people have not been able to socialise for a year. Now that rates are down and the most vulnerable are vaccinated, do we honestly expect they're going to not see friends/go out for another long unspecified time until we all feel comfortable about it.

Far better that they can do this and it can be used as a controlled experiment than illicit raves and house parties.

Legoninjago1 · 01/05/2021 09:49

Not too soon at all. Timing is perfect.

Toty · 01/05/2021 09:51

@Whinge
Why has your son only had one week in school since December?

Because we're in Scotland and he's in s1, schools closed 19th December and his year group didn't go back until the 19th April, unless you count blended learning in March which consisted of 3 whole mornings over the entire month. He was back 4 days before having to self isolate this week because 2 of his classmates had a sleepover and both tested positive for covid.
I am lone parent working out of the home. He is 12 and he has had to home school himself alone for months, I am utterly sickened that these children have been completely forgotten by our government in all this and societies fuck you attitude too if MN is any sort of representation.

@SeaTurtles92

I think it's ridiculous. We still have restrictions yet 6000 people can go off and mingle whilst the rest of us muppets abide to the rules.

Absolute joke. Who's even to say that the test is even their own.

I agree. We can’t even go to a restaurant for god sale unless we sit outside and freeze out tits off. If they have have a reason for this, why does reason ‘disappear’ when it comes to 6000 people in a group setting... hold on a minute, the ‘risk’ doesn’t disappear.

Get the pubs and restaurants open! Everyone that’s vulnerable has had their jabs. Get everything back to normal now

Toddlerteaplease · 01/05/2021 09:56

@Poppytroll I was surprised that the crowding at the river of light was allowed to happen. There were loads of stewards.

Arbadacarba · 01/05/2021 09:57

If it goes well it may help the easing of other restrictions. A night club is my idea of a torture-chamber, but I'm all for this trial and really hoping the after-results show no spread.

Topseyt · 01/05/2021 10:07

Whilst that sort of socialising has never been my thing, I think it was lovely to see these people happy and enjoying themselves. I understand too that running these types of events constitutes people's legitimate businesses and livelihoods. They must be struggling financially and seriously need to open up just like others.

I think the trial is well timed and I am glad to see it. We have to find a way back to normal somehow and it is a step along the way.

There really are people around who are enjoying this all in some way and would like lockdowns to continue forever. Perhaps so that that they can sit as the "fun police" and critique those not adhering to their idea of the rules.

@HeddaGarbled

Because the risks to hospital patients are too great to do that sort of experiment.

All the clubbers are young and healthy and have volunteered to participate in the experiment. That’s not the case for hospital patients.

Maternity units don't mix with other wards or patients at all. So it's still OK that partners that live in the SAME household as the pregnant woman still shouldn't be allowed at the birth of their own child? But let's all prioritise clubbing and sporting events.
OliveTree75 · 01/05/2021 10:11

I think it is a great idea! Hope they had a good time

RedcurrantPuff · 01/05/2021 10:17

What the hell have hospital patients got to do with it? If they’re in hospital they’re hardly likely to be placed at risk by people going to a rave.

DarceyDashwood · 01/05/2021 10:24

Makes complete sense to do controlled trials

HeddaGarbled · 01/05/2021 10:26

It would only be ‘prioritising clubbing and sporting events’ if no other changes were being considered. More than one thing can happen at once. I had my hair cut yesterday, I went out for lunch in a pub garden last week, I’ve been shopping.

Lots of things are being discussed and will happen when, having weighed up the risks versus the benefits, decisions are made.

You can’t please all the people all of the time. You aren’t being victimised so someone who isn’t in your exact situation can live it up at your expense.

Be patient and more generous and try and be happy that things are going in the right direction to the benefit of all of us in time.

RedcurrantPuff · 01/05/2021 10:27

Again people forget it’s not just about “clubbing and sporting events” but taking steps to protect the livelihoods of people who work there

No ones going to be happy to come out of this into a cultural desert are they with nothing open but shops. We need to learn to live alongside this thing, it’s not going away.

RedcurrantPuff · 01/05/2021 10:28

I think I got the wrong end of the stick on the hospital patients comment @HeddaGarbled. Sorry. Need coffee!

They were abiding by the rules: it was a highly regulated experiment. Listening to one of the DJs on BBC this morning, as I understand it tests were carried out at the venue?

I believe this happened in Madrid several weeks ago in similar circumstances and there was no spike as a result.
Much rather sanctioned experiments like this than people just doing their own thing. We need to move out if this safely and events like this will help that to happen.

What’s the alternative? Eat out to help out II? 🙄

I’m sick of people moaning about this, we are trying to get life back to normal for god’s sake, either get a grip or stay in your house for the next 10 years and let other people live their life.

ufucoffee · 01/05/2021 10:47

No I think it's a great idea

TheVampiresWife · 01/05/2021 10:47

It's wonderful. I felt quite emotional seeing the footage.

Not sure why anyone would think it's a good idea. It's a trial with testing before and after and we need stuff like this so we can begin to open up properly. But then I suspect that some people would be quite happy to see everything shut down for another year because safety first, eh. Even though the current average infection rate is lower than 1 in 1000, the virus is suppressed in very many areas and all vulnerable adults have been vaccinated.

Balls to that. I want to go to a gig!

eveoha · 01/05/2021 10:50

These were not ‘controlled’ trials 🤬
