Apparently this is the next age group to be invited

I'm honestly not sure, as not keen on something so new, think I had covid early last year before they were testing

Absolutely. Getting it this week.

LosingMyMarblesRun · 26/04/2021 18:39

I'm 40 and I've already had my first AZ, I felt poorly for about 12 hours and then fine. I'm healthy and well, but I have a disabled child and am a single parent so don't want to mess about with possibly getting covid.

AlmostSummer21 · 26/04/2021 18:40

@saucermilk

I got mine booked for tomorrow. Should I be having paracetamol before and after?
Well I don't suppose it would hurt you, it the vast majority don't have side effects, so I wouldn't. Or should I say didn't! I've had both (AZ) vaccinations.
Skinnytailedsquirrel · 26/04/2021 18:42

Of course I will. Protect ourselves, our families and in the long term, the population.

Talia99 · 26/04/2021 18:43

Yes. I’m 44 and booked this morning for a week on Friday. Bizarrely, the NHS website wouldn’t let me book the same site for the second jab or book just one so I had to book miles away for July. Hopefully I can change it to the closer one nearer to the time.

AlmostSummer21 · 26/04/2021 18:44

@EddieVeddersfoxymop

It's a no from me. Not right now, anyway. I'm very unsure as other countries AZ age is much higher. I will wait and see. For reference I'm 42, and am allergic so cannot have Pfizer.
Your choice obviously. But do you understand how the age cut off was calculated? I tried to explain it earlier (17:45) to the best of my ability. In very much layman's terms 🙃. I'm sure someone could explain it better if it would help?!
bumbleymummy · 26/04/2021 18:45

@Figgygal

Just turned 40 No risk factors Yes I’d have it - not for me necessarily although I would like to avoid the risk of long Covid but for the other people that I might come in contact with. People need to think not about themselves as an individual but their place in a society in which vaccination programmes are protecting everyone
The other people that can be vaccinated if they’re worried about it contracting it themselves?
wonderstuff · 26/04/2021 18:45

41, just booked my jabs Grin risk of covid far outweighs vaccine risk. Millions of people have had it already with very little adverse reactions. I want to get back to living.

AlmostSummer21 · 26/04/2021 18:46

@tatoowooo

No and not because I'm anti vax, I'm just waiting to see how it goes. What I mean by that is that, we already know it doesn't stop you from getting it as such and I won't be getting it if in a years time they say we need to get it every year. So I'm waiting it out for now...
You 'may' still get it, but it will be a lot less severe, and stop you needing to go into hospital & dying. I'd rather have a very mild dose than be ventilated/die - wouldn't you?

So what if we need it annually. It takes 5 minutes.

bumbleymummy · 26/04/2021 18:50

@AlmostSummer21 Over 80% of cases are mild/asymptomatic anyway. It’s hardly a case of ‘if you don’t get vaccinated you’re going to die’ Hmm

AlmostSummer21 · 26/04/2021 18:50

@bumbleymummy

Obviously your choice, but you need to remember that some vulnerable people & children can't have it. They NEED herd immunity to help protect them.

LadyGAgain · 26/04/2021 18:53

I've had it for work reasons and shortly
To have my second dose. But my family and friends who are 40 years old have all had their first dose. Invited by various surgeries.

PomegranateQueen · 26/04/2021 18:53

I have been denied the combined pill because of my blood clot risk so I am really on the fence about AZ. I would happily have the Pfizer jab though.

LadyGAgain · 26/04/2021 18:56

But it stops you from becoming severely poorly with it if you do catch it. Carrying a virus and being very sick/hospitalised are very different things. The more population who are vaccinated the better for everyone.
dotdashdashdash · 26/04/2021 18:56

Already had both of mine - I work for the NHS so got them a while back. I'm 37. I'm advising DH (also 37) to have his as soon as he can. We have no co-morbidities but the more people who have it the faster we get out of all this shit.

It's been through rigorous testing. Millions of people have had it. We all need to safeguard those who are more at risk.
Dailywalk · 26/04/2021 19:01

Here we go again.
Have you seen what’s happened in India over the last few weeks? Vaccines are our way out of this crisis.

Trinacham · 26/04/2021 19:05

Undecided.

I was already a bit worried. Now a family member has had a reaction (Bell's Palsy) from the AZ jab and it has made me even more wary, particularly of that one.

fibeee · 26/04/2021 19:06

Yes I think so. I am anxious about it but more anxious about the potential complications from covid infection. Know a young healthy guy who has now been diagnosed with asthma one year after recovering from covid. His chest was never the same after he caught it. This scares me more than the vaccine tbh.

RowanAlong · 26/04/2021 19:08

Yep I’m that category and already had AZ, no problems.

hellywelly3 · 26/04/2021 19:10

Yes you’re not doing it for yourself you’re doing it to help others. Every time the virus passes to a new person it has the possibility to mutate. By slowing transmission rates we drastically reduce the risk of new variants.

jacspatoutthecat · 26/04/2021 19:16

I have had the first dose and awaiting an appointment soon for 2nd dose. My neighbour however isn't happy to be vaccinated - she is a total anti vaxer - she homeschools her children and they rarely leave the house . Her and the children have never been on a day trip anywhere or on holiday. She feels that she isn't putting anyone at risk as she never goes anywhere and has no interest. The weird thing is though a few members of her family had it quite severely and it hasn't made any difference to her decision. She has made herself a bit of a recluse though as her extended family don't want much to do with her. I speak to her over the fence if she is in her garden but try to avoid any in depth conversation about covid or vaccines as she has some extremly bizarre theories!

UserEleventyNine · 26/04/2021 19:20

we already know it doesn't stop you from getting it as such

No we don't. At first they couldn't say whether the vaccine would stop you getting covid because there simply wasn't evidence one way or the other.

Now they think One Covid vaccine cuts infection rate in all age groups

The chances of becoming infected by Covid fell sharply after a first dose of either the AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccines, a UK study has found.

Full report on BBC.

Hairwizard · 26/04/2021 19:21

No.

PomegranateQueen · 26/04/2021 19:25

Yes you’re not doing it for yourself you’re doing it to help others
If I get vaccinated then am doing it for myself and for others, but I am not happy to put myself at risk for others, my own welfare comes first, mainly because I worry about what would happen to my DCs if anything happened to me. With that in mind I am carefully watching for AZ updated before I get invited.
