My in-laws are acting like it's all disappeared over night.

Travelling to london, going out for lunches and dinners in people's houses etc.

They're vaccinated now so I suppose they don't mind.

They've all but invited themselves around to ours in a couple of weeks time!

Many people with family who live far away still can’t see them. Like I said I understand the reasons but I don’t agree and it’s nothing to do with safety.

My business has completely suffered. So I know how important jobs are. But so is seeing family who haven’t seen grandchildren and may not have much time left...

We don’t need the reasons behind the road map spelt out to us. But the government shouldn’t be surprised if compliance is low right now. ‘Don’t kill granny’ has gone.

‘Jobs are more important than seeing your parents’ doesn’t quite have the same ring...

@JaniieJones

'But the vast majority aren’t. Calling those who follow rules as people who ‘hide under the duvet’ is just unpleasant sneering.'

It is so tedious isn't it. The responsible ones among us who are able to not only follow rules but understand the reason for them have some on mn constantly sneering about our alleged 'anxiety'.

They seem to need this constant back slapping and encouragement to give them permission to do wtf they like.

Hopefully what with twice weekly testing and the brilliant vaccine programme we are on track to be back to normal by June. No thanks to the mn flouters though!

yes but then its up there with the sneering from all the mumsnetters who call everybody who expresses any reservations about the vaccine or says they dont want it an anti vaxer , regardless if that person has had vaccines in the past and its just this one they might not want to have just yet , theres no end of crap dished out to them on here , seen it on other theads . i dont think any of us mn flouters need encouragement to do what we like . im pretty sure as grown women they do wtf they want to anyway . i know i do

*DFO. We've all made sacrifices.

I'm vaccinated. My folks are vaccinated. Waiting a couple of more weeks to see them makes fuck all difference.*

And this is why the old and cv shouldn't have been vaccinated first. People need to feel the risk of death to comply with the rules. Now the young are shafted with no vaccine while others meet up risk free breaking the rules. This pandemic has really highlighted the selfishness of some the older people who have taken the vaccine then taken the I'm all right jack attitude. We should never have locked down and let them take their chances.

We saw our neighbours (50s vaccinated once) with their children in their 20s (not vaccinated) in their garden at the weekend. Two families arrived, grandparents (vaccinated twice) and another two probably 50s, with children in 20s. They never socially distanced, they were about two inches from each other whilst sitting around a garden table. This is the reason why you can go to the a hairdressers, or a beautician as they take all necessary safety precautions and the government know that others don't.

Well as long as you’re keeping them under surveillance!
Longpinknails · 06/04/2021 07:46

Lol, yes the Covid police is alive here....but I was just trying to say that the general public, at home are not always social distancing in the comfort of their gardens and homes. This is why it's still a risk.

longpinknails I'm massively impressed you know the vaccine status of all your neighbours family and visitors. How did you manage that? Do you know all their underlying health conditions or jobs? Age is not the only factor. And they were outside, where the most cautious scientists have conceded the risk is slight. Get a life, really.

SamW98 · 06/04/2021 09:49

Seriously people are that bothered about what their neighbours are doing. I genuinely haven't got a clue if my neighbours have had visitors over, had their vaccines and quite frankly I don't care.
Let them live their lives as they see fit and I'll live mine as I choose

I really can not bear nosey curtain twitchers who are concerned with everyone else's business

I don’t get the big deal about the 8000 entering the UK

They are subject to...

If you're travelling to England you must:
take 2 coronavirus (COVID-19) tests after you arrive in England - you'll need to book these before you travel
either quarantine in the place you're staying or in a managed quarantine hotel for 10 days when you arrive in England
What you need to do depends on where you travel in the 10 days before you arrive in England.
If you travel in or through a country on the banned travel list (sometimes called the 'red list') in those 10 days you will need to quarantine in a managed quarantine hotel. If you do not travel in or through a country on the banned travel list in those 10 days you will need to quarantine in the place you're staying.

Seems reasonable to me

Good for them, sounds fab.

Reading the responses on this makes me feel like a right idiot for sticking to the rules! I read the op and thought "gosh they're being so irresponsible!" and thought there'd be lots of responses saying the same. I get that people are fed up, I certainly am, but we still need to stick to the rules. I am a rule follower by nature though!

Still safer outside than in a tiny hairdressing salon. Mind your own business.
