My in-laws are acting like it's all disappeared over night.

Travelling to london, going out for lunches and dinners in people's houses etc.

They're vaccinated now so I suppose they don't mind.

They've all but invited themselves around to ours in a couple of weeks time!

@sleepwouldbenice but it will just go away. Pandemics always do.

We've already had a slack handful of pandemics over the last 100 or so years and this is the first one where we've created a whole multi-billion pound industry around it, terrorised people with propaganda and fake statistics, turned citizens on each other, treated healthy people like plague-carrying rats, forced people to stay at home for months at a time, closed all schools for such a long time, removed all civil liberties only to be returned on submission to testing you don't need and vaccines you don't need.

Is it any wonder that some people are saying no.

It's not normal what is happening. It really isn't.

StealthPolarBear · 05/04/2021 14:55

We don't need every one vaccinated. We need enough vaccinated to balance the benefits and risks.

Exhausted4ever · 05/04/2021 14:55

@WalkinginMemphis2

Ahhh *@Exhausted4ever* classic Mumsnet idiocy there....well my experience is xyz and is therefore representative of the whole population and I refuse to believe otherwise 😂.

On a serious note I do think your experience of knowing people who’ve had it/or if you e had it yourself will colour your judgement. But I would hope everyone here is intelligent enough to know that just because they don’t know anyone whose had a bad experience doesn’t mean that’s representative.

Personally we know 24 people who’ve had it, 3 who sadly died (51 yo, 72 yo and 58 yo respectively), devastating as the 51 year old still has teenage children at home. 72 yo caught it from socialising with family at Xmas after being so careful for so long.

Then we know 4 others who’ve been hospitalised 2 in ICU where their families were told to say their goodbyes. These were 47, 41, 37 and 38 respectively, bar one all fit and seemingly healthy. It was the 47 and 38 yo who were in intensive care. This happened in Jan and only one of them is back at work yet.

The four who weren’t hospitalised but were poorly for weeks and weeks and 3 of whom now seemingly have long COVID.

Obviously this has coloured how seriously we take it somewhat.

Hmmm I didn't actually say that my experience is representative of the whole population nor that I refuse to believe otherwise. I was simply stating my person experience of it is low and, as yours has impacted your reaction to it, that so might mine

'Throughout July and August shops, pubs, restaurants and hairdressers were open and cases were low and stayed there. Remember last May when beaches and beauty spots were crowded and MN frothed about a new spike? Didn’t happen, much to some people’s great disappointmentThere’s a lot of history revision on this thread.'

Exactly! A lot of 'history revision' indeed. Particularly from people who think we've been in lockdown for a year and haven't been anywhere or seen anyone for a year, conveniently forgetting some people actually went abroad on holiday such were the terrible restrictions.

However, once school returned in sep we did see it accelerating again.

You clearly don't live north of Northampton then. Half the country has had a few measly weeks without restrictions for more than a year now.

'And they throw in "everyone is vaccinated" (they arent), enough us enough, and Lock down lovers as additional phrases to add to their obvious ignorance Won't do masks, won't do vaccines, won't do tests, wont do roooolz, won't do lockdowns....just expect everyone else to make it all go away for them.....'

Indeed. The stroppy, sulky 'won't do' feet stampers. Perhaps they could wear a badge when in public so we can all give them a wide berth.

Don't worry, I'm sure it's in the pipeline.
WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 05/04/2021 15:00

@TheKeatingFive

Variants will run wild

If we’re waiting to stamp out the risk of new variants, we’ll be living like this for years.

Quoting a part of what I said 🙄🙄

Until a lot more if our population have been vaccinated we need to be keeping transmission as low as we can. The more it transmits & replicates, the more 'mistakes' it makes in duplication & that can lead to to a variant escaping the current vaccine.

Once a greater number are vaccinated and the virus us finding fewer gusts, the less transmission & relocation with errors there will be and therefore MYCH less chance if a vaccine escaping variant.

It's basic science, it's a shame people just do not understand the facts.

Road map out of lockdown should work IF people stick to it. Doing what the fuck you want makes it less likely.

millenialblush · 05/04/2021 15:01

@Chloemol the vaccination programme will never be 'finished' - they are talking about boosters every 6 months meaning by the time the first lot are done the people who had it first will be up again. Its utter madness. If you think restrictions will be lifted entirely you will be waiting a long time. Those of us looking at the data know we are safe to carry on with our lives rather than waiting for a day that ain't gonna come.

Alsohuman · 05/04/2021 15:03

You should be giving them a wide berth anyway.

Boringlynormal · 05/04/2021 15:04

To me it just feels the same as it did last summer. Remember eat out to help out?! Whether autumn will be better because most will be vaccinated or just the same due to mutations etc I don’t know. But people scoffed about a second wave and said it was over so the current state of things doesn’t feel new.

Robin233 · 05/04/2021 15:06

@JaniieJones
"It is so tedious isn't it. The responsible ones among us who are able to not only follow rules but understand the reason for them have some on mn constantly sneering about our alleged 'anxiety'.

They seem to need this constant back slapping and encouragement to give them permission to do wtf they like.

Hopefully what with twice weekly testing and the brilliant vaccine programme we are on track to be back to normal by June. No thanks to the mn flouters though!"

Agree
Following the rules.
Over Easter travelled to see sister , not seen since September, for social distance dog walk.
And sat in garden of son , wife and new grandchild first time seen.
Kept distance. Both of us have had jabs. But won't risk going house.
Won't cuddle baby.
Had a great time.
Baby steps.
I never thought they'd be this second wave but there was.
So to avoid a third wave I'm sticking to the rules , but still out and about.

murbblurb · 05/04/2021 15:06

Propaganda, fake statistics - fucksake. Yes, we had other pandemics. Lots more people died in 1918.

TheKeatingFive · 05/04/2021 15:07

That’s the tiniest drop in the ocean compared to the wide world which isn’t going to be vaxxed any time soon.

Or our own population of under 16s who won’t be vaxxed this year.

As I’m sure you well know.

It’s just another variant of the ‘hold on for xyz’ narrative that people have heard over and over again now. Many are waiting for vulnerable family members to be done and them that’s a huge mental bridge passed.

Why dont you just call it a plandemic and be done with it....

'Road map out of lockdown should work IF people stick to it. Doing what the fuck you want makes it less likely.'

'Yeah but no but' will be the typical response, along with the oft mentioned 'enough is enough'.

'You should be giving them a wide berth anyway.'

AWider berth. Perhaps the 'won't do the rulez' crew could have their own shopping slots, say 7am until 8am.

'Over Easter travelled to see sister , not seen since September, for social distance dog walk. And sat in garden of son , wife and new grandchild first time seen. Kept distance. Both of us have had jabs. But won't risk going house. Won't cuddle baby. Had a great time. Baby steps'

bellabride · 05/04/2021 15:11

Is it guidance to not have people inside your house, or is it law?
If law, what's the fine?
( No one been to me yet, as family live too far away to manage in one day).

JinglingHellsBells · 05/04/2021 15:14

@Alsohuman Your version of history is a bit sketchy.

The increase, more cases, was after the summer. I know because it had some significance for me at the end of September. Household mixing not allowed. July and August were low cases as everyone was outside.

JinglingHellsBells · 05/04/2021 15:19

I would take a guess that none of the 'Enough is enough' brigade are data scientists, or epidemiologists, or virologists, or anything with a 'ists' on the end Grin
But hey- they know better than those lot.

They can gaze into their crystal balls and know exactly what's going to happen if only we all just threw caution to the wind and got out there and did whatever we wanted to.

Why did no one else think of that?

Read what I said again. I didn’t mention September - which was three months after restrictions were lifted. I said

Throughout July and August shops, pubs, restaurants and hairdressers were open and cases were low and stayed there. Remember last May when beaches and beauty spots were crowded and MN frothed about a new spike? Didn’t happen, much to some people’s great disappointment.

sleepwouldbenice · 05/04/2021 15:25

No. Cases varied. Especially in the northwest where restrictions were 're enforced

Are they claiming to be? No. They're done with the lockdowns and won't comply with any further ones and for all the 'you'll get fined' people know there's not the manpower to do that with mass scale lack of compliance.
