Looks like Europe may have got their way

@Druidlookingidiot
In the context of being vaccinated for international travel then you're not until you've had both vaccines.

Vaccinated doesn't mean the same as immunised.

When you have an injection of vaccine, you've been vaccinated. The action of putting a vaccine into your arm is a vaccination. A vaccination confers some immunity, so you are partially immunised. When you've had both the vaccinations, you can say your immunisation is complete.

DareIask · 20/03/2021 18:50

@Druidlookingidiot you're quite right of course. I do hope those deciding how lockdown is eased and travel is resumed split hairs as competently

It's not splitting hairs, it's just what the words actually mean. Vaccination is the act of putting a vaccine into your arm. Each time you have a vaccine, you've been vaccinated.

Oblomov21 · 20/03/2021 18:54

Oh no. Really. This is so bad.

TSR1 · 21/03/2021 06:39

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

On the 12th March l knew lots of over 50’s and some 60’s who hadn’t been done.

I’m 57, the first date l could get was 22nd March. How were they planning to vaccinate the millions of over 40’s in the 9 days from my appointment to the end of March.

The Telegraph was reporting that all over 40s would be offered the vaccine by Easter, not given it by the end of March
Itsalonghaul · 21/03/2021 07:28

I have it on good advice, that this 'delay' is going to be the merest blip. In fact so small you won't even notice. People in their 40s are being called in now, and will continue to be vaccinated.

Wish my husband was called!! :(

Keep the faith, that is all I am saying. Keep the faith. It is coming.

Do you know of anyone invited after the announcement on Wednesday? Some of my friends in their 40s had their jabs this weekend but they'd been invited before the news of the delay.

It sounds like there's going to be weeks with very few 1st vaccinations being done in April as they've already done 27 million and there's about 31.5 million in the priority groups (and not everyone will take up the offer ever or for now).

Itsalonghaul · 21/03/2021 08:54

Yes 40s still being vaccinated here and appointments are still going out by text. There might be a small blip between end of March and Easter but then the roll out will continue.

We really do not need to worry, the vaccines in the mid and long term are going to be fine.

EasterIssland · 21/03/2021 08:56

@nordica yesteray someone mentioned in one of the threads that they had been invited on Friday or Saturday for the vaccine.
40+ in the southwest. We live here and my husband hasn’t been invited yet

Dongdingdong · 21/03/2021 09:01

Hmmm, let’s think? Are people known to put in more effort for better reward?

@VaVaGloom give someone a £2k pay rise and they might put in a bit more effort for a short while. But it doesn’t generally last. And realistically, people in cleaning jobs are never going to be paid big bucks.

And yes, I do think people who still have jobs (and are getting pay rises!) SHOULD feel grateful, when there are so many others who have lost their jobs and are in big financial trouble. Or do you not give a shit about them?

VaVaGloom · 21/03/2021 09:34

@Dongdingdong no idea how you extrapolate that by my showing concern about low paid NHS workers I don’t give a shit about unemployed people in other sectors?

It would appear however that you don’t give a shit that the Government pay scales are incredibly low for some long serving NHS workers.

Well yes, but how many 40-50 year old school staff and parents of kids in school will catch coronavirus because of this delay? That's the question.

There is so much more they could have done to have opened schools more safely - rotas, masks for KS2, just lots of things. If there was going to be a delay in vaccination to all those in daily contact with schoolchildren, this might have been a good idea.

Itsalonghaul · 21/03/2021 17:09

I am not sure you are going to notice the delay necessarily ilove I think you might find your appointments come on time.

Delatron · 21/03/2021 18:07

When are the Moderna jabs due here? I thought April. Or are they delayed too? I do think this is a minor blip. They’ll speed back up again.

Our vaccination centre has been open every day this week which is the first time it has been since they started. It’s normally a few days a week.
We’ll have done so many in March a bit of a reduction for some of April won’t be a massive problem then I expect is will ramp up massively in May again.

WombatChocolate · 21/03/2021 18:39

Itsalonghaul, do you know something we don’t? Would be great if you do.

As very late 40s here, we would be thrilled to be eligible soon.

Frazzled2207 · 21/03/2021 20:05

Regardless of the much discussed reduction in April, it is is pretty obvious that an awful lot of second jabs are now due. If they were to do say all the january first jabs again in April, then it stands to reason that not many will get first jabs in April. But then in May, assuming supply is up again, there should hopefully be less pressure on the system.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/03/2021 20:20

Frazzled..... my second one is due in May, as is DH’s, and everyone else l know who was done around beginning/mid March...

Sorry

SpringisSpinning · 21/03/2021 20:28

I love jk, I agree about the other measures that couid have been put in place along side LFT testing.

I am staggered that mask wearing isn't even mandatory in class.

WombatChocolate · 21/03/2021 20:31

Frazzled, the plan with ramped up supply was enough for 2nd doses AND for mop-up of those in groups 1-9 not done AND for rollout to next age group for 1st doses.

The amount of jabs being given over the last week would have been enough for all of that and more.

The reduction in supply means 2nd doses and mop-up have to be prioritised (rightly so) and as there’s not enough, it’s the new age groups (40+) who get delayed until supply picks up again.

Of course, if they have got through all the mop-up quicker or supply increases, 40s can have it too.

EasterIssland · 21/03/2021 23:02
I hope the Eu thinks about it twice. Pfizer has already warned them of playing games could have bad impact as they’re dependant on some products from the uk. It’s better to be friends than enemies
Belladonna12 · 22/03/2021 10:16

It sounds like they may just be planning on blocking the AstraZeneca vaccine which doesn't seem that unreasonable considering we can make it to ourselves and import from India. I'm more worried that they might try to block the Pfizer one as people need that for the second dose. It will be outrageous if they try that because Pfizer has been supplying them in line with their contract. As Pfizer have pointed out, we can retaliate by not giving them the products they need to make it and then everyone will suffer. I think we could do the same thing with the AstraZeneca vaccine . I think a lot of this is the EU trying to cover for the fact that they have been totally incompetent with regard to vaccination. Hopefully they will not demonstrate further incompetence.
