Vaccinated heroes on Facebook

Why do those that have decided to have the vaccine feel the need to take to Facebook and document the fact?

They’ve had an injection, not saved a family of 5 from a burning building. I just don’t get it.

@whatswithtodaytoday

I can't believe people are angry that people who are younger than them are getting it. Surely you assume they have an underlying condition and are happy that they're now safer?
But often you are almost certain they haven't or sometimes they state that they haven't and were "surprised" to get the text. Those are the people that should show some sensitivity in my opinion as people several years older than them may be equally surprised (and upset) not to have been vaccinated yet.

Envy isn't a nice trait but understandable in the circumstances for people who can empathise with others in less fortunate positions.

Like @WeatherwaxLives very few of my casual acquaintances would know that my asthma is severe enough to put me on the shielding list. Before the pandemic I was the kind of person who swam a mile before work. My asthma is pretty well controlled and I've always worked hard to stay fit and as healthy as possible. But the cocktail of drugs I have to take daily to keep me this way makes me extremely vulnerable to Covid-19. So I've been shielding for the past year and was quite frankly delighted to have my vaccine last month!

InfoInfoInfo · 15/03/2021 11:31

I imagine normalisation of something that is sensible and might let doubters know they are pro vaccine...

I wouldn't personally but I tend to avoid posting much on FB anyway

peak2021 · 15/03/2021 11:33

Some people just overshare. Far less damaging or stupid than posting holiday photos whilst you are still on holiday and advertising this to potential burglars.

Mayormaynothavehadit · 16/03/2021 22:50

peak2021

You have burglars as friends on FB then do you Hmm

TheVampiresWife · 18/03/2021 07:03

@kittensarecute I'm so happy to see you here and to hear that you're feeling better and that you've had your jab. I've thought about you often and hoped you were doing ok.

2021ismyyear · 18/03/2021 07:36

Yeah I find pictures of the vaccine card a bit boastful. It’s all a bit “look at me”. Do they boast about having a smear test or having a flu jab... no.

I’ve got a friend that has had it because she works in a public facing job (she’s a council worker) and she felt ashamed to have it. She never told me, her husband let it slip. She really does believe that police and teachers should get it first.

If you post about being away whilst actually being away using the where you are feature and get burgled, then lots of Insurers won't pay out on your claim.

Actually yes I do, again because it normalises it, so many women are afraid of having a smear, lots are not keen on the idea of a flu jab. So I post when I've had them done.

bruffin · 18/03/2021 08:48

Its not a nice trait to make assumptions like that, you dont sound a nice friend. As said above its about normalising the vaccine , not boasting or asking for a pat on the back.

TigsytheTiger · 18/03/2021 08:56

I got a sticker after my first jab on Tuesday! I was a bit Hmm at first when it was offered to the man in front of me, but then I thought it's a bit of fun and it made me smile how many people accepted them and stuck them to their clothing, as did I.

Of course I now realise it's part of normalising the process as others have pointed out and getting messages into the community in as many ways as possible.

Chillychangchoo · 18/03/2021 08:58

Having mine on Tuesday and I will post. I posted about my sister too vaccinating well over 150 in one day alone. I think it’s amazing how science has delivered a vaccine so quickly and ill be feeling happy and grateful.

Not bothered about haters, they probably hate on everyone’s statuses and should probably not have SM.

but we want people to be 'boasting' about these things, are you really telling me that you don't see people saying they have been for their smear, and encouraging people to go for theres?
VinterKvinna · 18/03/2021 09:30

oh the shame!!! THEIRS!!!

LimitIsUp · 18/03/2021 16:33

Having mine on Saturday and will not post - because it's crass and insensitive to do so Imho

Lastbonestanding · 20/03/2021 14:55

Some people think getting it early makes them look important.

ReallyHmm
Sansaplans · 20/03/2021 15:31

I don't think it's boastful, but I think people should post more about having the flu jab and smear tests, especially the latter.

luckylavender · 20/03/2021 15:38

I posted because I wanted to normalise it. I didn't get a sticker & I'm 59.

2021ismyyear · 20/03/2021 17:23

Sadly I think people are boasting about it. I think people dress it up as trying to normalise it because they know that people will think they are being a show off.

I think the covid vaccine is a thing that most under 50s would give anything for at the moment. A smear test is slightly different because it’s offered to everyone that needs one. If I posted about a smear test there wouldn’t be anyone that felt hard done by. Because smear tests are offered to all women of a certain age.

Covid jabs are not offered to all people... only half of adults have had it. And now there is a delay.

I think the sort of people that post about covid jabs and take picture of vaccine card are the type that tag themselves into A&E on Facebook and generally over share for attention. You know the types.

bruffin · 20/03/2021 17:27

That says more about you than them,

Mucklemore · 20/03/2021 18:21

I assume for a myriad of reasons, pretty much like people do anything else?

Maybe try asking your "friends" on Facebook? Or you'd rather just be antagonistic on here?

Abraxan · 20/03/2021 18:28

Do they boast about having a smear test or having a flu jab... no

Actually I do post some years about having my flu jab. This year I did, for a similar reason. The local area were encouraging people to have their flu vaccination if they were eligible - and even if not eligible for a free one, they were encouraging adults to have the flu vaccine.

Is it always classed as boasting if someone boasts something you don't agree with 🤷‍♀️

Abraxan · 20/03/2021 18:30

If you post about being away whilst actually being away using the where you are feature and get burgled, then lots of Insurers won't pay out on your claim.

This isn't actually the case in most cases, especially with private closed accounts. It is, however, an urban myth often quoted.

If, however, you can post of any examples where this has happened to someone posting in a closed, private social media account which has been upheld then feel free to post it.

SleepingStandingUp · 20/03/2021 18:37

I don't see that it's really any different from anything else posted.
It tells you something about the poster bad gives the option to review your relationship and block, delete, mute, comment as appropriate

ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 20/03/2021 18:44

Hmm your responses are definitely something an anti vaxxer would say.

So what people post about it. Their fb their choice.
