Vaccinated heroes on Facebook

Why do those that have decided to have the vaccine feel the need to take to Facebook and document the fact?

They’ve had an injection, not saved a family of 5 from a burning building. I just don’t get it.

OP posts:
JemimaMuddledUp · 14/03/2021 14:31

When I had the vaccine I posted about it on social media for two reasons. Firstly, I'm in the shielding group and so have had a pretty miserable year. The vaccine kind of marked the beginning of the end of this - I'll be able to follow the same restrictions as other people of my age rather than having the additional shielding advice. Secondly as i had it fairly early I felt it helped to normalise the vaccine, especially at a time when a lot of people were worrying about potential side effects etc.

bruffin · 14/03/2021 14:50

@Lupinhere37

So gutted I didn’t get given a sticker. Is this an English thing? Anyone from Wales get a sticker? I have terrible Fear Of Missing Out......
My dd is a vaccinator in Cardiff and says they do stickers

Peaceiseveryrhing is the antivax equivalent of those who shout "I'm no racist but I wish all these coloured people would go back to their own country."

You don't know me, and you're making an idiotic assumption.

I've already said I'm not anti-vacs, just questioning why people have to publicise on Facebook

OP posts:
Whocares2021 · 14/03/2021 15:11

@Peaceiseveryrhing for all the reasons above - do you understand it more now?

MissConductUS · 14/03/2021 15:14

By the way, having the vaccine doesn't stop you getting coronavirus or passing it on.

Actually, it does you ignorant git.

Pfizer vaccine shows 94% effectiveness against asymptomatic transmission of COVID

@MrsGradyOldLady

I agree with you OP. It's the same tossers who always post shite about how blessed they are and how much they love making memories too.

If this is your experience of Facebook I would say you need to change your friends.

Or just delete my account which was in the second part of my post. The part you didn't quote 🙄

That part wasn't relevant. Deleted or not, your friends are still your friends. My whole point was if that's the type of friends you have, perhaps you should change them.

I'm just tickled at the juxtaposition of OP's name and her attitude.

I have noticed a certain correlation between someone not liking vaccination and general unpleasantness.

I have noticed the more vile comments come from people who are very pro-vaccine. There are several in various threads on this board wishing death on people who do not want the vaccine.

Wishing death on them? Really?

Abraxan · 14/03/2021 16:04

@Zig27

They want validation and likes.
Seeing as I only have genuine family and friends on my Facebook, but strangers and not it's a private account, it's not really about validation and likes Hmm

Likewise as a result I only see the posts of my genuine friends and family so I am almost always pleased to see things like this on their feed.

Not everyone used social media for 'the likes'

ChasingRainbows19 · 14/03/2021 16:15

I’m all for it tbh, I’m happy people are getting vaccinated! It also normalises and shows others that people are getting vaccinated. It may just encourage someone unsure to do so when they see others happily having the vaccine and being ok. People also can post what they want on their own social media.

Getting the vaccine for some (including me) is a big sigh of relief that we might get closer to things getting easier and some people are bound to show that. Not sure that it’s about being a hero.

Also recent research is showing that actually as expected ( but hadn’t been tested in trials) it does have an effect on transmission.

lovingmyppe · 14/03/2021 16:17

I'm a vaccinator. I started at the beginning of the year. Doing several shifts a week as well as my day job.
Honestly it's been the most rewarding experience. We've had elderly couples wearing their best jewellery and clothes and taking selfies, as it's been such a momentous occasion, we've had gifts of chocolate, biscuits snd flowers from grateful patients. We have had joyous recipients asking us to dance. We've had extremely vulnerable, previously shielding individuals, with stories of cancer, chemo, transplants, heart and chest problems. It's been their only trip outside of their house seemingly since this time last year. We've had healthcare professionals working on the front line, with Covid patients and in Covid centres, traumatised by what they've been dealing with. We've had patients who have lost loved ones to this disease, and couldn't say a proper goodbye.

We now have vaccines, and the country is doing its best to try supply us all with this, the most effective way to bring the suffering to an end.

Shout it from the rooftops, post on Facebook all you want. Share the news.

Be kind

This claim has been made on other anti-vax threads, and when I asked the OP to produce a link to such extreme comments I was told to find them myself. So they don't exist.

What a lovely post Flowers. Thank you for what you do.

The original comment has been deleted but is still there in a quote

On the thread 'what happens to the unvaccinated'

"Idgaf what the unvaccinated do. Die quickly hopefully"

Also, the thread about the lady who has a husband with a needle phobia. Totally lack of empathy and pretty shitty comments there too. All from very pro-vaccine people. So I don't buy into the whole people who want the vaccine are nicer than anti-vaxx crap.

herethereandeverywhere · 14/03/2021 17:25

Why do people feel the need to pour scorn upon others? Upon those exhibiting positivity and hope after an incredibly tough year? Why be nasty and negative towards people who have showed you no ill?

Your question says more about you OP than it does about those celebrating their vaccination on social media.

Lemons1571 · 14/03/2021 17:26

I had my first vax 10 days ago. I wfh (group 6 but probably shouldn’t be as have lost weight). I would never post about getting the vax on Facebook. I think it would make people like my DH feel really gutted and anxious (late 40’’s, secondary teacher, back in full classrooms now, and just missed group 6 by a whisker).

I find this notion odd, that the poor sods who are arguably more at risk should be feeling overjoyed about people arguably less at risk, getting the vaccine first. It’s not a perfect rollout and it has to be done quickly so there will be discrepancies of course. But to be made to feel bad, because you’re scared about still being more at risk? WTF!

bruffin · 14/03/2021 17:36

Lemons you are talking nonsense nobody is asking anybody to overjoyed for them, they are just spreading positivity about the vaccine
I have no idea why this would make your dh anxious, surely seeing others vaccinated means his vaccination is getting closer and he should be feeling less anxious

binkymcbinks · 14/03/2021 17:52

Taking photos and spreading the word on social media has been actively encouraged, to help improve people's confidence in having the vaccine and encourage uptake.
I put a picture up. I'm frontline NHS and was so pleased and thankful to get mine.
And no I am not the kind of person to post memes about being blessed etc. I'm actually a miserable cynical fucker.

loulouljh · 14/03/2021 17:55

I hate it I have to say....

kittensarecute · 14/03/2021 18:07

I had mine yesterday and have posted on FB as I'm very pleased and delighted to have had it.

RidingMyBike · 14/03/2021 18:14

I'm having mine next week and will be posting about it on social media. I know that some of those that follow me are uncertain or even anti vax and anything that can be done to make it 'normal' is good.
