Vaccinated heroes on Facebook

Why do those that have decided to have the vaccine feel the need to take to Facebook and document the fact?

They’ve had an injection, not saved a family of 5 from a burning building. I just don’t get it.

OP posts:

‘By the way, having the vaccine doesn't stop you getting coronavirus or passing it on.‘

I see where you’re coming from now, ie, a place of ignorance.
The evidence is growing all the time that it lowers transmission significantly.

Here’s this from yesterday.

bruffin · 14/03/2021 09:03

I got a sticker yesterday, they put in my card, i dont post on facebook much but this thread has persueded me to

ThrowingAShellstrop · 14/03/2021 09:05

There's no need to drag a thread down to your guttural level.

Sweet, you asked, I answered. The irony of it though. Your OP was already at rock bottom. Not only are you coming across and miserable and humourless but you’re spouting crap.

The vaccine may not stop you getting COVID but it will stop you dying from it. Enough time has passed since the first cohort having theirs to say that there is now very strong evidence that the vaccine stops or lessens the transmission of the virus. It’s been all over the media. Where have you been?

ThrowingAShellstrop · 14/03/2021 09:07

Oh btw, I have my second one next weekend. I’m going to ask for a lolly. Might even take myself to MaccyDs as a brave little soldier treat afterwards Wink

LimitIsUp · 14/03/2021 09:07

It pisses me off. I am 52 and want my vaccine. I appreciate that the majority of people who have already had the vaccine have a greater clinical need than me but I still don't want to hear about it.

VerityWibbleWobble · 14/03/2021 09:11

I've a few vaccine wobblers on my FB friends list. I posted mine in the hope they'd think again and get the vaccine.

Cushionsnotpillows · 14/03/2021 09:13

having the vaccine doesn't stop you getting coronavirus or passing it on.

Wrong. Many recent studies have shown the current vaccines are reducing transmission rates fairly significantly. You need to read a bit of the sciencey stuff more before making such blatantly false statements.

LimitIsUp · 14/03/2021 09:13

I should add, it's when younger people than me get the vaccine it really sticks in my craw. I have been telling myself that it is because they are ECV or carers or some other justifiable criteria, but I know personally of 3 people who have been vaccinated who profess to have no idea why (I haven't questioned them, they have volunteered this)

ChocOrange1 · 14/03/2021 09:13

Also I'm pretty sure that's not what the word "guttural" means.

MRex · 14/03/2021 09:15

I've seen a few recently, the strangest was learning that a guy I worked with for 10 years has a different first name than the one I've always known. I have noticed a few nervous questions about side effects under several of them, each of them answered as none or just something very mild for a day. I wasn't going to post when I get mine next week, but I will now in case I can reassure anyone who's nervous. Seeing that it annoys the anti-vax types is a bonus (but I only know one such fool in real life).

BruceAndNosh · 14/03/2021 09:20

@Onlinedilema

A fb friend posted she had called into a vaccination centre on the off chance and they had spares. Posting this encourages others to try this or have the vaccine. It's also saying look I've had it and I'm fine.
The large vaccination centre I volunteer at is busy enough checking in 26 people every 10 minutes. They don't want dozens of people turning up on the off chance
Cushionsnotpillows · 14/03/2021 09:21

If people were only allowed to post on Facebook when they had done something on a par with saving someone from a burning building, there wouldn't be much to read

Exactly! GrinGrinGrin

See, I don't understand this stance.

My parents are older than me and are at more risk statistically. When they got their first vaccine I was so pleased for them. I wasn't jealous. Statistically they needed it before me.

I am CV and work in a busy crowded room with no SDing possible; having Covid in October put me in hospital. I've now had my first vaccine and I posted about it.

Dh is not CV so not yet eligible and he was really happy if had it done, not jealous I got it before him.

Everyone 18+ will be offered the vaccine in the next few months.

As a 52y it will be in the next couple of weeks quite likely. So not waiting ages.

Why feel jealous of those more vulnerable getting it before you?
Why not just feel pleased for them?

And after all, everyone who is eligible getting it will eventually benefit us all. The sooner we can all be vaccinated the sooner we can move towards a more normal life again.

It could be something flagged on their medical record from years ago or simply that their GP surgery has a lower number of elderly or Cv patients so have moved down the list more quickly.

Dh's colleague is early 40s and had his simply as the surgery was that far down their list. My surgery has an older demographic so was still in group 5. He had his a couple of weeks before mine (he is group 10, in group 6.) but it's just one of those things.

Also lots of people have hidden underlying conditions that you'd never know about unless you spoke to them.

When we have, as evidenced by many postings here on MN, a large segment of the population who are afraid of getting vaccinated - anything that helps show that others are getting it, and are pleased, surely is good?

And as the vaccines have now been shown to reduce onward transmission - people may be doing more than saving a family of 5. If some who is vaccinated, would otherwise have contracted COVID-19 and passed it on to a chain of people - getting the vaccine could easily prevent more than 5 deaths.

Bluewavescrashing · 14/03/2021 09:45

I don't have a problem with it per se but I'm waiting for my vaccine as a teacher and am unlikely to get it any time soon. It just reminds me of that.

LimitIsUp · 14/03/2021 10:26

"When we have, as evidenced by many postings here on MN, a large segment of the population who are afraid of getting vaccinated - anything that helps show that others are getting it, and are pleased, surely is good?"

I feel that this is disingenous. You would have to be living under a rock not to realise that the majority of people are receiving vaccines. The daily tally of cumulative vaccinations is reported on tv news every day. I doubt that knowing that Sandra on your FB friends list has had her vaccination is likely to sway any waiverers

Againstmachine · 14/03/2021 10:29

It's humourous the people on here saying the OP is wrong are sort of proving their point.

Saying things like : I'm doing it to encourage others and I'm doing it for the community. Well done you selfless hero's.Grin

No they are not being selfless heroes. They are posting to say they have had vaccine and are ok , to encourage others , not to virtue signal and get a pat on the back. Its normalising the vaccine against the tide of misinformation thats on sm
Maverickess · 14/03/2021 10:40

To make sure everyone knows what a fucking utter hero I am OP, why else?

Or it could have just been an easy way of letting the friends who actually care about me, on my fb, and have asked when I'd been/would be done that I'd had my first vaccination without having to text them all individually. I ain't got time for that shit, I'm far too busy saving the world mate, and letting people kno all about it, in my minimum waged, looked down upon job in care 💪

Mayormaynothavehadit · 14/03/2021 10:53

I love seeing friends get their vaccines and love seeing them post on fb. Jesus, this is a superb outcome to a horrendous year, I'm baffled that anyone would sneer or be envious. It's just wonderful, the way out of a truly awful scenario we were in. What goes on in some people's head is truly incredulous.

DenisetheMenace · 14/03/2021 10:55

Don’t have Facebook but if this is happening, good, for the many reasons already posted.

Facebook isn't for people who think for themselves. I wouldn't worry about it OP.
Iliketeaagain · 14/03/2021 11:33

The NHS Facebook site released "I'm going to get vaccinated" and "I've had the vaccine" photo surround things to encourage people to share on social media that they had a covid vaccine and the trust I worked for encouraged us all to share on social media's that we had been vaccinated. The idea is to encourage people who are unsure about vaccination to get vaccinated.

It's not "vaccine heroes" - it's been actively encouraged by the NHS to share that you are going to be / have already had the vaccine.

I don't use FB much, so I didn't declare on FB, but I did on my Twitter and on Instagram.. I'm really happy that people are getting vaccinated and there is a little bit less anxiety about my friends, family and colleagues getting really unwell with covid every time I see another vaccinated!

pinkearedcow · 14/03/2021 11:49

Is it me or are the anti-vaxxers out in force this weekend?
