Vaccinated heroes on Facebook

Why do those that have decided to have the vaccine feel the need to take to Facebook and document the fact?

They’ve had an injection, not saved a family of 5 from a burning building. I just don’t get it.

Good to normalise the vaccine and encourage people.

Often conspiracy theories and anti vaccine posts get too much visibility on Facebook etc.

Also agree it is moral boosting to see it happening. And I hope enough people choose the vaccine for it to be successful. I am disappointed in those who fall for the fake news or worse share the fake news on vaccines.

EileenGC · 14/03/2021 08:19

By the way, having the vaccine doesn't stop you getting coronavirus or passing it on.

Do you suggest we stop the vaccination programme? It’s useless according to you...

Peaceiseveryrhing · 14/03/2021 08:19

@Againstmachine

I think it's a bit knobbish to be honest, I don't get why they are giving a sticky badge out when you are vacinnated what are people children.
Exactly this. It's like being 9 again and going to the dentist.

"There's a good girl, have a sticker" 😂

Who suggested that? Did I misread what my fingers typed?

According to MN posting about anything on FB is completely unreasonable and attention seeking.

Fine if you don’t like social media then just don’t use it, not everyone is the same - thank goodness it would be a very burning world if we were!

Whocares2021 · 14/03/2021 08:21

Boring not burning 😂

reprehensibleme · 14/03/2021 08:22

Having the vaccine has been proved to stop people becoming so ill they have to be hospitalised and stops people dying, so pretty good eh? There is also increasing evidence the vaccine cuts transmission fairly drastically - the scientists knew it probably would but needed firm evidence which they are now getting.

My Nanna, Dad, DH and I never got a sticker Sad

I would have laughed at my doctor if she tried Grin

AfternoonToffee · 14/03/2021 08:26

I'm not overly bothered about what others do, but I didn't, no one really needs to know, not like it means I can see them now.

Abraxan · 14/03/2021 08:28

By the way, having the vaccine doesn't stop you getting coronavirus or passing it on.

But it massively reduced your chance of becoming seriously ill and all the evidence is showing that is has a large impact on reducing transmission too. So actually, right now, evidence is showing that it is reducing the chance if you passing it on. That information has been published for a few weeks now and the evidence keeps growing to show it to be the case.

And having had Covid and ending up in hospital with it is far rather have the vaccine than go through Covid again.

VinterKvinna · 14/03/2021 08:29

Why are you even on Facebook? Surely it's beneath you?

Do you suggest we stop the vaccination programme? It’s useless according to you...

You wrote By the way, having the vaccine doesn't stop you getting coronavirus or passing it on. So what is the point of it then?

Abraxan · 14/03/2021 08:30

No stickers here either. Out of all the people I know who have had it only one was offered a sticker.

Florelei · 14/03/2021 08:32

Scroll on by OP. It might be irritating to you but is it really worth getting upset about? I’d try to let it go over your head if you can. Smile

Personally, I like to see my friends and family posting about their vaccines. It means we are getting a little bit safer each day. Also, I think there was some research done which showed that the more people who ‘advertised’ that they’d had the vaccine, the more likely that those who were unsure would come forward for vaccination.

Starlightstarbright1 · 14/03/2021 08:37

I posted a picture of my takeaway last night. Promoting local business. I don’t consider that heroic either but it might make some one else buy a meal from them

I also posted a couple of weeks ago I had my jab - certainly not because I considered myself heroic. Probably because it passed the time whilst I was sat in the car for 15 minutes. It also meant the people who knew I was going didn’t need an individual message

If you have a problem with people posting they had there jabs fb probably isn’t for you.

ChocOrange1 · 14/03/2021 08:37

Ah this old chestnut. By the way, it stops you getting seriously ill from Covid, and it massively reduces transmission.

I don't think the people posting on Facebook are claiming that they're heroes. They're sharing something which they are happy about. When I post a picture of a nice dinner I made, I'm not claiming to be "heroic" for making it, its just something nice that happened to me that day. Which is pretty much the point of Facebook. Has someone you know actually used the word "hero" in relation to themselves getting the vaccine?

ChocOrange1 · 14/03/2021 08:39

If people were only allowed to post on Facebook when they had done something on a par with saving someone from a burning building, there wouldn't be much to read Grin

Are only anti vaxxers and dunning kruger types who think they know more than the scientists and researchers allowed to post on facebook. Those posts are like a drip drip into peoples minds and start to give people unnecessary doubts especially as they are based in ignorance. People posting that they have had the vaccine gives balance

Awww I didn't get a sticky badge, its not fair!!!! Hope i get one when I have my second jab! Fingers crossed!
hardyloveit · 14/03/2021 08:47

Who pissed on your cornflakes this morning op??

Very negative about the vaccine.

I posted when I got my first and will again when I have my second next week.

frogswimming · 14/03/2021 08:47

I'm not in England and our vaccine programme is way behind. God knows when I'll be vaccinated.

I love seeing the posts, I'm happy for my friends and family that they've had it. Even if it's only the first one, they're a bit safer and it's a sign the whole world is moving back to normality. It's a step closer to being able to see my family in England that I haven't seen for over a year and miss terribly.

I'm mentally cheering them all on. Also, I'm very jealous, I'd be so happy to post the same!!!!

Babdoc · 14/03/2021 08:51

OP, there is now very good evidence that the vaccine stops transmission. Rates of infection among the over 80’s - the first group to be vaccinated and for whom we therefore have sufficient data - have plummeted.
Before we got large numbers vaccinated, we couldn’t state as a known fact that it cuts transmission- we believed it would, as all vaccines do, that’s why we are administering it, but we couldn’t show proof until now. Hence the cautious statements by scientists at the start.

Lots of people post all sorts of crap on FB. Some will appeal to you, some won’t. I dislike people posting support for the SNP breaking up our country, but I accept their right to do so.
I think you just need to ignore the vaccine posts, have a sneer snd move on. The rest of us will continue to celebrate our release from fear of illness and death.

SaskiaRembrandt · 14/03/2021 08:51

I hope I get a sticker when I get my vaccination. I shall wear it with pride knowing it irks miserabilists.

Lastbonestanding · 14/03/2021 08:54

I know the posts you mean. They have an irritating tone.

Barksmum12 · 14/03/2021 08:55

To normalise and encourage uptake. Every vaccine given helps to protect us all.

Thimbleberries · 14/03/2021 09:00

I think it's good to normalise it, let people know that it's happening a lot more in our area than you might think from the national press, and just generally let people start to feel positive that things might go back to normal at some point.

And the science of it all is amazing! the mRNA vaccines is a really interesting technology, and I'm quite happy to discuss and appreciate that with my friends, many who are also scientists.

I read somewhere also that they were hoping for people to post about vaccines to keep up that drip of encouragement for anyone who was unsure.

I didn't get offered a sticker. But the blood donation service always have rolls of different stickers, key chains, all sorts of things, ways to check in on social media, things to share on social media, profile frames etc, as a way of getting people talking about it and thus gradually increasing awareness. I don't think they really think people need a sticker for donating blood just to make themselves feel better, the way a child does.
