Vaccinated heroes on Facebook

Why do those that have decided to have the vaccine feel the need to take to Facebook and document the fact?

They’ve had an injection, not saved a family of 5 from a burning building. I just don’t get it.

Conversely why does everyone who doesn't want it go on Facebook telling everyone they're not having it??
@Donotfeedthebears you can have the vaccine while breastfeeding
But I’m choosing not to.

www.rcog.org.uk/en/guidelines-research-services/coronavirus-covid-19-pregnancy-and-womens-health/covid-19-vaccines-and-pregnancy/covid-19-vaccines-pregnancy-and-breastfeeding/

Breastfeeding women will now be offered vaccination if they are otherwise eligible, for example if they are in a clinically extremely vulnerable group or a frontline health or social care worker, including a carer in a residential home. Women should be advised that there is lack of safety data for these specific vaccinations in breastfeeding.

faerin · 14/03/2021 12:49

Do you say the same thing when your friends post pictures of their meals or photos of their cat on social media as well? "Hero Buys Cat"?

Didn't think so.

Whocares2021 · 14/03/2021 12:56

@Donotfeedthebears choosing not to have it is different to the statement you made. There’s no way you know you will be ‘done’ with breastfeeding in a year and I know that from personal experience.

VoyageInTheDark · 14/03/2021 13:00

Of all the annoying things people post on Facebook ('Share if you love your child!' Etc) this is really not one of them.

Donotfeedthebears · 14/03/2021 13:02

@ Whocares2021 as Covid will be around forever, I’m sure they’ll be a vaccine ready for me whenever I finish breastfeeding!

XenoBitch · 14/03/2021 13:38

It doesn't bother me. I have always had the opinion that people can post what they like on their own FB. I have seen several arguments arise from vaccine posts, mainly people being nosy and demanding to know why someone had the vaccine before them etc.
On the flip side, the people I know who will be declining the offer of the vaccine do not post about it at all on FB.

Peaceiseveryrhing · 14/03/2021 13:43

@Cushionsnotpillows

having the vaccine doesn't stop you getting coronavirus or passing it on.

Wrong. Many recent studies have shown the current vaccines are reducing transmission rates fairly significantly. You need to read a bit of the sciencey stuff more before making such blatantly false statements.

WRONG?

Wow, share your facts my angel

@MRex

I've seen a few recently, the strangest was learning that a guy I worked with for 10 years has a different first name than the one I've always known. I have noticed a few nervous questions about side effects under several of them, each of them answered as none or just something very mild for a day. I wasn't going to post when I get mine next week, but I will now in case I can reassure anyone who's nervous. Seeing that it annoys the anti-vax types is a bonus (but I only know one such fool in real life).

Love cats. Don't find them all opinionated or shepherding

@MrsGradyOldLady

I agree with you OP. It's the same tossers who always post shite about how blessed they are and how much they love making memories too. I deleted my Facebook account a couple of weeks ago so am spared all the "well done Julie you're such a hero" comments.
Exactly this 👍

@Donotfeedthebears

Rolling my eyes at vaccination posts and people sobbing with joy over getting a vaccination does not make me an anti vaxxer.

I’ll get my vaccine in a year or so once pregnancy and breastfeeding is done.

Perfectly reasonable choice!

I'm certainly not anti-vaccination. However, there seem to be many angry people that throw 'anti-vacs' as an insult at anyone who is weighing things up. This is wrong

I got the vaccine quite early in January as I work in healthcare. After the year I’ve had, getting that jab was hugely emotional. In the week that most of my department got it, the mood was visibly lifted. I put it on social media because to me it really was a big deal, and seeing so many of my friends and colleagues in my department, and at a previous hospital I’ve worked at, and people in my profession I went to university with all posting the same thing just gave me so much hope that this has an end. This year has been so hard, both in terms of workload and in terms of mental strain, and seeing a way out is huge for me and my colleagues.

If it also has the effect of normalising vaccination and encouraging others then that’s great too.

Dottybirds · 14/03/2021 14:02

Hahah yanbu op I find it a bit odd too from grown adults. Do they want a sticker for their troubles?

DOINGOURBIT · 14/03/2021 14:04

I'm not a vaccine wobbler, an anti vaxxer or any other than scared of side effects. That said, I'm waiting for my appointment from GP, hoping I will get one vaccination rather than the other - the one which seems to have been given in my area. I've just received a real roasting on FB, accused of slowing down the rollout - 'people like you' etc, etc,

I think the whole COVID / Lockdown thing is bringing the worst out in people. Or perhaps its just keyboard warriors in general, love an argument.

Why do you assume that they want a badge?

Ah, Godwin’s Law in action, OP, with that reference to concentration camps. Nice to know you’re not anti vax, as your other comments really did seem like you wanted to prevent people who have had the vaccine from encouraging others to do so.

Lupinhere37 · 14/03/2021 14:23

So gutted I didn’t get given a sticker. Is this an English thing? Anyone from Wales get a sticker?
I have terrible Fear Of Missing Out......

MsAwesomeDragon · 14/03/2021 14:27

I got my vaccination yesterday. No sticker for me Sad All I got was an afternoon of feeling a bit shivery and a headache (absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things, felt a bit like a head cold).

I have to say I didn't post about it on FB (I think my mum did though Blush). Vaccine envy is indeed real, especially when it was young people who work from home (for the nhs) getting vaccinated when my parents in their 70s with health conditions hadn't been offered one yet. Or when I knew I was going back to work in a classroom with 150+ pupils a day and I hadn't been offered a vaccine yet others in other parts of the country with the same condition as me but working from home had theirs weeks ago.

So I can understand the vaccine envy from some people. But I do think that we should get over ourselves and try to be happy for the people getting the vaccines. The more people getting it the better protected the rest of us are in the long run.
