What a time for covid to hit us... Help!

So I am a primary school teacher returning to work after maternity next week and was given a box of lateral flows in preperation. Today I recieved a surprise phonecall inviting me for the covid vaccine on monday. The lady who rang me was unsure why I was recieving the vaccine as I am only 33. After some digging it is due to my mental health and health anxiety. Apparently there is an outreach programme in my area with an allocation of vaccines. Anyway I was so happy!!
Fast forward two hours to my DH coming home from work looking terrible with a banging headache and sore throat. I just had a horrible feeling so I gave him one of my lateral flows (I know I shouldn't have). It was positive. Used another to check. Also positive. I have booked pcr test for tomorrow but he is positive isn't he?
I am so worried for him although he is not too bad atm. Also the timing. Me returning to work, my vaccine on monday now can't go ahead and my kids can't return to school on monday when they were so excited! Can't quite believe our bad luck!

Also, should I use the other lateral flows on myself and the kids or not bother?

Sorry to hear it. Rubbish timing like you say. Hopefully it will be mild for husband and you and the kids too if you do catch it.

You all need to isolate for 10 days, so no need to take LFTs for the rest of the family. If anyone else gets symptoms, you'd need a PCR test.

Laila747 · 03/03/2021 19:42

Oh OP...that really is rubbish timing. I really feel for you and your family Sad
Fingers crossed your DH isn’t too poorly with it and it skips past the rest of you. Hugs and Flowers x

VaccineYayVaccineNay · 03/03/2021 19:52

Really worried about our baby especially. Having said that, she has been very fussy and clingy today and yesterday

Sorry to hear this and what bad timing! Can you rebook your vaccine slot for asap after the isolation period ends? Obviously you'd have to cancel again if you develop symptoms.

I'd be tempted to lateral flow test yourself so that you can inform any contacts if you test positive. I'd do the kids too if they are old enough and you think they won't freak out having the test done.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 03/03/2021 20:02

That sucks OP so sorry.
I wouldn’t waste a further test, even if ok you’ll be isolating.
Also don’t worry about the baby they are the least likely to suffer.

HolmeH · 03/03/2021 20:04

@VaccineYayVaccineNay - my then 8 month old had covid in December. It came out as a streaming cold, a minor fever for a couple hours, grumpy. Right as rain in 48 hours. My 3 year old, not a single symptom bar very irritable.

Meanwhile. I felt grim 🙈 but still pretty mild really.

Kids really aren’t getting too ill with this, so try not to worry too much! Hope your DP is OK! It’s rubbish timing but it’ll be over before you know it!

Loubylou79 · 03/03/2021 20:39

Ah that really sucks for you. Hopefully just a mild illness for you all

VaccineYayVaccineNay · 03/03/2021 21:56

Thank you for all your replies. That is reassuring about babies. @HolmeH I am glad you were all ok, even if you did feel pretty rotten.

He has a very bad headache and a temperature atm. I have terrible health anxiety and have had CBT for it plus medication so this is a nightmare for me. Fingers crossed we are all okay.

Don't know why I am coming back to this thread but I feel lost. My DP has been taken into hospital by ambulance.

Oh gosh, you poor thing! Offering a handhold.

Thefamilybusiness · 07/03/2021 14:00

Aw sending positive thoughts for your family op. X

WankmasterBastardDeLaShithead · 07/03/2021 14:02

I'm assuming you have to stay at home and wait for an update? Have you got anyone who can be with you just now?

endlesscraziness · 07/03/2021 14:02

Book him a PCR. LFT shouldn't be used for symptomatic people. He probably is positive but you should've booked him in for the PCR, not used the LFT incorrectly. You'll likely be fine. If you develop symptoms and get a PCR confirmation, you can be vaccinated 2 weeks later

WankmasterBastardDeLaShithead · 07/03/2021 14:03

What sort of thing is helpful for you in scary situations? A walk? A cup of tea while tucked up in a duvet/ blanket?

lubeybooby · 07/03/2021 14:06

Oh no op, how worrying - best wishes to you all. Keep talking here if you need to Flowers

XiCi · 07/03/2021 14:07

On no OP. What happened? He must have deteriorated really quickly. Hope he's OK.

TeddyBeans · 07/03/2021 14:08

Hope your DH makes a quick recovery in hospital, OP 💐

VaccineYayVaccineNay · 07/03/2021 14:10

He already has a positive pcr test
We have an oximetre thint at home and his levels dropped to 91. I rang 111 and they sent an ambulance. He seemed to pick up a bit yesterday.
I have a cough, waiting for results so wouldn't want anyone to come over. I am so worried. He is only 36Sad

YukoandHiro · 07/03/2021 14:12

Oh you poor thing. If he's struggling a little he's definitely in the right place... don't forget Drs now know far more than they did about covid and how to treat it. He's young and otherwise healthy. I'm sure he'll be home and back with you in a couple of days. Keep us updated x

ChameleonClara · 07/03/2021 14:12

Oh no Flowers - do you have some real life support with you?

YukoandHiro · 07/03/2021 14:13

And I don't want to scare you but it's best if you do make a plan for your kids just in case you suffer badly... do you have grandparents who have had their first vaccine dose?

VaccineYayVaccineNay · 07/03/2021 14:14

I am with my 3 kids. My SIL is dropping some food off and said she would come in but I don't want her to catch it

OP posts:
CatherineCawood · 07/03/2021 14:19

Oh how worrying for you. Remember he is in the best place getting the right treatment, the doctors and nurses have learnt so much in the past 12 months about how to deal with it.

Hopefully he will be home ASAP. My friends husband, similar age to yours was taken in to hospital, 4 days later was discharged and is recovering nicely.

Big deep breaths take it an hour at a time.

Emmacb82 · 07/03/2021 14:24

Try not to worry. 91% is only slightly lower than would be liked, he may just need some supplemental oxygen for a couple of days and be back home again. It’s far better that he is taken to hospital and sorted out before he gets too poorly. Hopefully it will be caught before it gets to that stage. Take a deep breath, make a cup of tea and make sure you have some support on hand. The worst thing is not being able to be there with him and to not know what’s going on. It causes so many scenarios to run through your head. But try and stay positive.

VaccineYayVaccineNay · 07/03/2021 14:26

He was so mad at me for ringingSad

Thanks everyone just trying not to panic infront of the kids
