We’ve already had two year groups sent home for positive PCRs. One class was only in for one day, child developed the symptoms that evening (allegedly..) and got a PCR the next day, 4 children in that class have now tested positive from that one day of contact.

ceeveebee · 16/03/2021 16:22

And all the MSOAs in the schools catchment area were white last week so couldn’t have had lower community rates before going back.

ceeveebee · 16/03/2021 16:23

Actually sorry I meant 2 classes - not the whole year group (primary 3 form entry)

Doomsdayiscoming · 16/03/2021 16:29

@mrex

Well, more like 7k. But yes.

Were they PCRd test prior to being tested as a result of the positive kid though?

Maybe they were also positive.

You can’t say it was directly as a result of the positive kid being there.

Still I agree, not encouraging.

5294 / 110 today

MRex · 16/03/2021 16:41

Early vaccination report for tomorrow. RAMMED, I counted 143 in the queue from arrival to leaving (31 minutes). The marshals speeding us all round said it had been like that all day. Bit of suspicious checking of my group 6 invite, I.had to show it 3 times. Oxford AZ and we all got a sticker Grin.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 16/03/2021 17:00

@MRex congrats!

I hope I get a sticker ☺️

Doomsdayiscoming · 16/03/2021 17:02

I’m hoping to have my vaccination fairly soon (33).

The uptake will be hit by this bloodclot stuff, and a lot of people will decline AZ once they realise this batch is coming from the Serum Institute of India. Finally living in a racist country pays off.

thatgingergirl · 16/03/2021 17:07

MRex - I'm so glad to hear that - I am very anxious that the current issues around the AZ will deter people from getting their vaccinations. I hope that isn't the case and your experience is mirrored across the vaccination sites.

(I have my sticker on my purse - was so pleased to get it!)

And I hope no one minds me interrupting on the the thread - I don't post, but do read avidly!)

herecomesthsun · 16/03/2021 17:10

@Doomsdayiscoming

Yeah. Game over.

I started celebrating weeks ago, but now it will be nice to see everyone else cotton on.

Not quite over yet Smile.

I'm late 30s and similarly hoping the lower uptake in the 40s and 30s groups may mean they open up the booking for us quicker so that those of us keen to have it can do so ASAP.

Obviously it's not great on a population level if lots of people decline but with that in mind it must still benefit everyone if they can get as many people as possible vaccinated quickly.

lurker101 · 16/03/2021 17:12

I was pleasantly surprised - NI extended online bookings to over 50s yesterday, and Dept for Health reported that within 3 hours they had 30,000 bookings (~1.6% of population). I was worried due to physical and cultural proximity to ROI that NI would be more affected by their decisions on AZ, but that was a massive stampede to book in my view! Hopefully the rest of the U.K. will be similarly guided by our regulators.

Doomsdayiscoming · 16/03/2021 17:17

@herecomesthsun

That was on the 26th February

It’s now 5-0 and they’ve had their goalkeeper sent off.

Doomsdayiscoming · 16/03/2021 17:26

@nordica

Oh on a population level it’s awful.

There are going to be areas with loads of people still getting ill and going into hospital, and there will be areas with no one in hospital at all.

My local now has 9 covid patients as of the last update. It will be 0 before May, for sure.

wintertravel1980 · 16/03/2021 17:58

I like JVT and his metaphors and I agree we need to watch what happens post school reopening. However, we do not need 5 weeks to "see the results" - Zoe app and boys3 specimen date analysis will show the real trends way before then (within 2-3 weeks).

If cases plateau / decline between now and March 29, in my opinion, it will be a wasted opportunity to wait until April for the next phase of re-opening. We already know from last year that non essential shops and hairdressers do not drive the spread. The "data, not dates" approach should work both ways.

wintertravel1980 · 16/03/2021 18:00

And congratulations, MRex!

Firefliess · 16/03/2021 18:11

The only reason I can see to wait 5 weeks between stages is in order to see what impact any rise in case rates has on hospitalisations. They've already indicated that they'll tolerate a bit of a rise in cases if it doesn't translate into admissions. And it does take a little longer to see that from the data.

MRex · 16/03/2021 18:11

Thank you @thatgingergirl and @wintertravel1980.

@Doomsdayiscoming - DH was round the corner hoping that would happen already, the centre said "No chance sorry".

@lurker101 - 30k would be impressive if there weren't (wild over-reactions) "issues", that's over 25% of the 50-54 year olds. They're on the ball those Northern Irish!

ancientgran · 16/03/2021 18:15

I don't get the 5 week between changes. Schools opened on the 8th and you could sit on a bench and have a drink or something with another person. 29th six can meet up, some sports can happen, stay at home rule goes. There isn't five weeks between 8th and 29th March. I know both come under the first change but they are two different dates when things change. Then changes 2 weeks later on 12th April.

It's like newspeak, changes every 5 weeks even when they are 2 or 3 weeks apart.

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/03/2021 18:21

Apparently those steps are Parts 1 and 2 of Step One.....

Just seen someone else saying we're now at 90% of tests being lateral flow?

boys3 · 16/03/2021 18:34

I like your subtle reminder @wintertravel1980 Grin

Specimen date wise in England is frankly pretty unremarkable. Marginal percentage changes when compared with the equivalent point in the previous week. A lot of variation between council areas too, those with week on week declines look to still outnumber those with rises.

No sticker when DH got his jab yesterday, but the centre run by a consortium of GPS was very busy. Not that that should impact on any sticker issueing. Smile AZ for him. That said I’m in a council area with one of the highest uptakes in the country.

It also has one of the higher rates per population for LFDs over the past week or so, which has turned up some cases, but, and mindful that the dashboard age breakdown only currently showing cases by age to 11 Mar spec date, only a couple in the 10-19 age groups.

@JanFebAnyMonth

Only on a weekday,

Given the number of secondary and sixth form DCs, and 17 odd million school parents, the additional LFD tests numbers are not that great. Even considering lower uptake, parents already doing regular LFDs as part of their jobs, those having had C19 confirmed within the last 90 days. The messaging is pretty abject though, so perhaps no great surprise.

So you hope to get your vaccine earlier than expected because of racism? Confused
wintertravel1980 · 16/03/2021 18:43

The changes planned for March 29th are only optical. They are not going to change the trend.

If we look at the mobility index (using London as an example), people are not "staying at home" anyway. The mobility index now is similar to what it was back in the second half of June 2020 when we were just "staying alert".

citymapper.com/cmi/london

The real relaxations that appear to matter are schools and hospitality. Non essential shops/hairdressers may have a marginal impact and arguably can and should be accelerated if the trend continues to look good.
