Haven’t

Purpleheadgirl · 15/03/2021 19:42

The Dr on radio 2 at lunch time said it is actually both clots and low platelets. She said the original "problem" of cloa was from other countries but basically research has found that if you get covid badly there is at least a 1 in 6 chance that you will have a clotting issue. Those who had vaccine had similar levels of clot to those in normal people / pre covid. Possible some of those were brewing covid before had the vaccination and so reported a clot after, no- one has died from such a clot after the vaccine. However the figures amount to a 1 in 200,000 chance of getting a clot after a vaccine. She was therefor saying that even vulnerable people with a significant blood related issue get a covid they have 1 in 6 of clot with only a 1 in 200000 if have vaccine so she would always advise people to have it.

Then she said work in UK has shown there is an essentially equal report of low platelets being reported..around 28 or 35 for each of Pfizer and AZ out of 10 million doses given in UK of each drug so fat. That's a time percentage and again it's just a reported event not a proven correlation.

TheChineseChicken · 15/03/2021 19:43

Ah, it seems there have been cases where both have presented together - but definitely blood clots

TheChineseChicken · 15/03/2021 19:44

Cross post

Firefliess · 15/03/2021 19:54

Except my maths is out by a factor of 10. Should say 15 will die. Sorry! Still stark when compared with 1.7 having blood clotting disorder (or whatever it is) and mostly not dying.

Piggywaspushed · 15/03/2021 20:10

Yes pussycat no Nurofen either. I do remember reading about Vit K. It's what they give babies isn't it just after they are born?

No ibuprofen is really annoying as he suffers form various neck and knee gripes!

PussyCatEatingEasterEggs · 15/03/2021 22:11

Piggy he might be able to use the gel? DH asked his cardiologist and was told he could, but not too much or too often. 🤔

Fainasnowchild · 15/03/2021 23:50

The thrombocytopenia thing scares me, I will admit. My son was one of a very few people who developed severe thrombocytopenia a week after a flu vaccine. He was covered in bruises and pettechiae and bleeding from the nose and mouth. It was the most terrifying thing I have ever experienced and his platelets took a year to recover to low end of normal range. I don't know whether to have him vaccinated when it's his turn (he's not yet 16). On the other hand catching covid could also cause a platelet crash.
Thrombocytopenia is no joke.

Sorry for the de-rail.

PussyCatEatingEasterEggs · 16/03/2021 06:02

@Fainasnowchild I'm so sorry to hear your son was made so ill. Can you get in touch with the team who cared for him for advice or reassurance? I would imagine if he is vaccinated against covid, they will keep a very very close check on him. Flowers

Fainasnowchild · 16/03/2021 07:27

pussycat The charity for itp advises getting the vaccine anyway as covid could also cause a relapse. But that's easy to say and much more of a dilemma to do, especially with him being in the "covid much like a cold" age group. I mean no one is offering him a vaccine yet anyway - DH and I had ours no bother - but I was just turning the data into reality for a moment. It's easy to say 'thrombocytopenia is an extremely rare reaction'; but when it's been you, or someone you love, it does become frightening.

Firefliess · 16/03/2021 08:09

@fainasnowchild I have sympathy with people like you who might feel frightened of vaccination following a (very rare and unlucky) reaction previously. That sounds very scary for you Less so with regulators who ought to recognise that they need to weigh up one risk against another not just be "precautionary" But looks like they'll be making a ruling today (which will presumably be either that there are no risks, or that they are lower than those of not being vaccinated), so hopefully it'll blow over soon.

Doomsdayiscoming · 16/03/2021 12:49

No antibodies chat?

30% is ridiculous.

Roadmap will be altered surely.

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/03/2021 12:53

What do you mean @Doomsdayiscoming ? Had a quick google and can't see any new research published?

1 in 3 in U.K. with covid antibodies. (33%).

Consider that people will have immunity from prior infection and will not have circulating antibodies. I’d say the current decline in transmission is only partly due to the lockdown, so I don’t particularly see a need to keep it in place until June.

lurker101 · 16/03/2021 13:05

@Doomsdayiscoming and around 75% in the over 80s sampled in England. Excellent news

Doomsdayiscoming · 16/03/2021 13:07

Yeah. Game over.

I started celebrating weeks ago, but now it will be nice to see everyone else cotton on.

Bordois · 16/03/2021 13:11

But mutant covid!!!!!!!! 🥸

ancientgran · 16/03/2021 13:35

Local news saying families of residents in the Sidmouth care home have received a letter saying the investigation is into infection prevention and control.

Bordois · 16/03/2021 13:45

Is there a particularly time the zoe app updates its numbers or does it change at various points in the day?

ThrowawaySecondarySchool · 16/03/2021 13:45

From the trenches here in a secondary school, not vaccinated, not had it, 1/4 of a year group already isolated again, please don't throw open the gates yet.

How many positive PCRs?
Bordois · 16/03/2021 13:55

I saw this which reckons it could be around 50% with antibodies now

Sneaky late night update on the dashboard.

England hospital data added. Sub 6k in hospital.

In England. Still over 8000 if we take all 4 nations. It's good news though Ms Doom. Ventilated patients down to 930 in England, which we haven't seen since 3rd November.
SunsetGirl · 16/03/2021 15:02

@Doomsdayiscoming

Not certain why the numbers of positive LFTs would be relevant. The students were sent home because of a symptomatic pupil with a positive PCR test.
