Vaccine offered to all 16-65 year olds at my GP

Surprisevaccine · 18/02/2021 18:37

That's what's happened at my GP and I had mine today, 27 no underlying health conditions. Has it happened at anyone elses?

Wasn't expecting to receive it until the Autumn!

OP posts:

So I'm pleased that the vaccine rollout is going full steam ahead but it does piss me off that I made the effort to shield for 12 weeks last year (which was shit!) and now every other person seems to be getting the vaccine while I wait patiently for mine.

Realistically, there's no rush as there is very little to do anyway but I'd like to think those of us that shielded have been recognised.

LunaHeather · 18/02/2021 20:45

@Shrivelled

So you’re 100% sure your medical notes weren’t coded to receive the vaccine in group 6? My sibling was added to group 6 because he had mental health problems years ago. I will also be in group 6 for previous medical history rather than a current condition. The full group 6 list is in the covid green book on the government website. The full list is not on the NHS website so if you’re going by that then you may well not have one of the obvious listed conditions.
Does this include depression and anxiety? Never had time off work but took meds. So it might be that in my case.
Dentistlakes · 18/02/2021 20:45
@Dentistlakes the supply is set to increase in March when second doses start. It should be slowing a little this week as Pfizer upgrade a factory but today's figure was higher than last week's.
That’s reassuring. Hopefully the second doses will go smoothly too. I’ll be relieved when elderly family and friends fully vaccinated.

FidgetArse · 18/02/2021 20:46

I wonder if this is a post to wind people up?
Because theres people on here that have been shielding for a year and still haven't had the vaccine yet!!!

Not sure this post is very helpful in anyway!!!

Shrivelled · 18/02/2021 20:46

Honestly if you think about it OP, by saying the vaccine has been offered to ALL 16-65 years olds in your area, you are effectively saying ALL ADULTS have now been offered the vaccine in your area. I don’t buy it sorry.

Chloemol · 18/02/2021 20:47

Different surgeries are at different stages. Ours are doing 16 to 64 with underlying health conditions, but about to start over 60s

LunaHeather · 18/02/2021 20:47

This is partly why I dithered when I got the text

But I've heard you bugger up the system more if you don't go with it, so I booked.

I thought official shielders were all done now? So confusing.

Trisolaris · 18/02/2021 20:48

I’m group 6, have heard nothing, my sister and her husband are having it this week. Mid thirties, no conditions. Ultimately all jabs in arms are good but it’s frustrating to wait!

BananaHammock23 · 18/02/2021 20:49

We're in east Kent and my DP (31, healthy) had her first vaccine today. Rang the doctors to check she was entitled and it wasn't a mistake and they said no! I've not been called yet (30, healthy) but the surgery told me to expect a call.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 18/02/2021 20:49

Meanwhile I have had to ring daily to try to get vax for my 83 year old mother who has been on chemo for 5 years for an autoimmune condition

Chamonixshoopshoop · 18/02/2021 20:50

At the end of the day, every single person that gets vaccinated is one step closer to ending this awful misery! If they have the vaccines then go for it! Better than waste.
The problem will come with people refusing them, like 1/3 of the care sector have.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 18/02/2021 20:50

(she has had it now)
But postcode lottery innit

Jaxhog · 18/02/2021 20:51

Better that as many as possible get vaxxed than we waste vaccines.

wonderstuff · 18/02/2021 20:51

Just checked the Guardian vaccine tracker, all priority groups are 48% of the adult population, we're currently on 24.6% vaccinated, the only time non-priority people should be being vaccinated is if there is a risk of wasting, so left over at the end of the day type of thing. Very strange.

battyberyl · 18/02/2021 20:51

I would never like to think I'd grudge anyone a vaccine but its hard to hear this, my parents in their 70's have only just had their first dose,my relative in early sixties and in a care home with a debilitating illness making him ecv still hasn't had it ,although the care staff have.We are in Scotland

ivykaty44 · 18/02/2021 20:52

we have gp in my area offering vaccinations to under 65s without underlying conditions - we thought to use up vaccinations before they went off

my dds friends have had the vaccination - all under 30 years old and no underlying conditions

I have two friends under 50 that have also had vaccination

the more that have it the better - rather that than in the bin

FirstladyKirkman · 18/02/2021 20:54

@Surprisevaccine

Ooh I'm W Sussex...... Fingers crossed for me then!!! 😁

ivykaty44 · 18/02/2021 20:55

@battyberyl, if it means that your parents don't catch it from those that have had the vaccine surely that is better than the vaccine going int he bin? The more people that are vaccinated the better flu stop

yes in a perfect world it would be better to vaccinate everyone in a certain order, but the system isn't perfect and its the next nest thing

Stopsnowing · 18/02/2021 20:57

They are speeding through and don’t want to waste jabs. It’s a good thing.

randomer · 18/02/2021 20:57

nice work for the South

HelloThereMeHearties · 18/02/2021 20:58

I mean, there are countries that wish they had a problem like this!

Bluebolt · 18/02/2021 20:58

I do think the way they have done group 6 leaving GPs scrambling to contact the largest group of people has left hubs finding other people to fill the spaces as they have the small group 5.

AnniversaryScaresMe · 18/02/2021 20:58

The "mental health problems" description is a bit vague! It says bipolar or schizophrenia or "any mental illness that causes severe functional impairment".
How are they defining severe functional impairment? Unable to work? How will the GP know?
Meanwhile people with autism are still campaigning to be considered for group 6...

MRex · 18/02/2021 21:00

I don't find it credible that the OP has full details of all of a GP's confidential bookings to know the vaccine has been offered to everyone over 16 in that area. More likely OP has gestational diabetes, depression, obesity or something else on her GP record and got the invite because of that. It's a 16-64 category, not everyone on that age group. Annoying to confuse and potentially upset some people, but good to have and every jab is one fewer to go.

CrochetOrBust · 18/02/2021 21:03

I meet the criteria for Group 6 and haven’t been offered the jab yet - like the OP, I am in W Sussex so it’s clearly not county-wide policy.
