Vaccine offered to all 16-65 year olds at my GP

Surprisevaccine · 18/02/2021 18:37

That's what's happened at my GP and I had mine today, 27 no underlying health conditions. Has it happened at anyone elses?

Wasn't expecting to receive it until the Autumn!

OP posts:

@MRex

Some of you seem to be letting this get to you. The OP is likely either classified vulnerable and doesn't realise (e.g. had gestational diabetes) or making it up.
My money’s on the latter.
CurlyhairedAssassin · 19/02/2021 13:40

Yes, some people aren't aware of the conditions that are on the updated list. I wasn't. A lot of people have only seen an older list or "examples of underlying health conditions" type of lists in a newspaper.

NeedToGetOuttaHere · 19/02/2021 13:53

West Sussex here too, my 22 year old was vaccinated yesterday and no I’m not making it up.

HSHorror · 19/02/2021 14:10

Maybe some gp records arent very good. Or measure height wrong etc.

When my dc was 4 the nurse knocked off easily 2+cm in height. or maybe they have updated weight but not height. So they are 12st but only 11yo height etc.

littlepattilou · 19/02/2021 15:20

@Firkinhavinalaugh

I was incredibly lucky, I got a leftover vaccine - Pfizer. Just to be clear, our surgery had 5 spare from the 500 patients done that day. All who were booked were jabbed.

I got given my 2nd appt at the time for beginning of May.

I didn’t phone or ask to be put on a waiting list, I have been volunteering at the surgery to help guide patients through (lots of standing in rain and snow 🤣) so think this is why I was asked if I’d like to have one of the “overs”.

We are working our way through the 65+ and CEV currently.

On a side note, people are pretty pissed off —jealous— that I’ve had it. I wasn’t expecting it and did question if someone else should have it but I was there at the time and would prefer it wasn’t wasted!

I'm finding this, that people are pissed off and jealous that other people are having the covid19 vaccine. They are not unreasonable to feel pissed off. They ARE unreasonable to be angry at the people getting it. I am not going to apologise for having it. And no-one else should either.

Me and DH are in our mid 50s. I just had my vaccine 20 minutes ago, and DH had his at 2pm. We were both in and out in 5 minutes. Both glad to get it, and not apologising to anyone for having it.

As for this...

@oakleaffy

So those who live in other areas just have to lump it.....

''I'm alright, Jack!''

Yes. I'm alright Jack. So what? Confused

To put it bluntly, I don't care about you, or any other randoms I don't know. Along with me and DH, 100s of people under 60 - many only in their 30s and 40s, have been taking the covid vaccine this past few days at our medical practice. Everyone I know who was offered it, has taken it, and like hell were we going to turn it down.

Did we think 'oh no, we won't take it, because some random person 5 counties way, who we've never met, who's ten years older, and has asthma, hasn't been vaccinated?'

Like hell. We wanted this vaccine, we were offered it, and we took it.. And now we have had it.

As I said, I don't care about you or the other 1000s of randoms I don't know. I only care about myself, my close family, and my close friends. Why should I care about you? Confused

OverTheRainbow88 · 19/02/2021 15:52

Why should I care about you?

Wow, are you for real?

Bedsheets4knickers · 19/02/2021 15:56

We are in Essex and our medical centre is calling up all ages now . I'm 40 and two friends of mine 43&44 got a text yesterday and another friend 38 got the same text .

WineInTheWillows · 19/02/2021 15:57

@OverTheRainbow88

Why should I care about you?

Wow, are you for real?

Why does this attitude surprise you?

People in general are ultimately selfish.

VinylDetective · 19/02/2021 15:59

That takes it to a new level.

motherrunner · 19/02/2021 16:01

@littlepattilou Your post has actually made me feel sick. I haven’t seen my mum in a nursing home for a year - or even spoken to her. I’m a secondary school teacher. I teach I rooms that don’t even have a window. But you ‘don’t care’.

I despair in humanity.

mumsneedwine · 19/02/2021 16:03

@motherrunner I'm right with you on all of that. 🤗

mumsneedwine · 19/02/2021 16:06

It's so lovely to hear there is enough capacity to vaccinate all these healthy youngsters. When there wasn't apparently enough to vaccinate school staff, even just the over 50s. Makes me feel so valued. Schools cant be very important then.

BackforGood · 19/02/2021 16:09

It feels a bit like mass numbers are the goal rather than prioritising reducing pressure on the NHS

Well, surely a really high % of the population being vaccinated WILL reduce pressure on the NHS ?

Jakadaal · 19/02/2021 16:13

My 2 dc have been called for theirs - dd18 has learning difficulties/autism, ds 17 no underlying health issues. DH and I both mid 50s still waiting for ours

CuriousaboutSamphire · 19/02/2021 16:16

I'm not sure u can be annoyed by the post code lottery news of it.

I'm mid 59s and live in an area with a high older age group demographic. It will be a while before they get to me. But I don't think I'll be able to get annoyed at the thought of someone much younger, living in an area with a younger demographic, getting theirs before me.

The more the merrier. And if vaccine has arrived at your surgery then they should get it out to as many as possible, not pfaff about 'fairness'.

I’m a mid 40s secondary school teacher. I’m annoyed by the postcode lottery. If you were in a room with 33 teenagers 6x a day without masks or ventilation you may feel differently.
CuriousaboutSamphire · 19/02/2021 16:21

I used to be a teacher. My younger DSis still is. We both have underlying conditions, she is more likely to get hers before me, I am not unaware, I get it. But being pissed off about anomalies that we don't know the truth behind isn't going to change anything.

There could be any number of reasonable explanations as well as a fair few unreasonable ones.

WednesdayalltheWay · 19/02/2021 16:29

Wow. In my opinion it should be as equal as possible across the country. And I say that living in a ( well off, mostly middle class ) county that's making very good progress.
If I was offered one though, of course I'd take it and I don't blame any of you for taking it!

Bilgepumper · 19/02/2021 16:31

Why should I care about you?

Vaccination is about more than making individuals safe from a specific disease. It's also about lowering the risk of disease within a community. The more people who are vaccinated, the safer your community will be. This is why there is such a drive to get as many people vaccinated as possible. You are not just protecting yourself by getting vaccinated, you're protecting everyone else. This especially includes the vulnerable who can't be vaccinated. With a pandemic, we need as many people as possible vaccinated, throughout the whole world.

FuzzyPuffling · 19/02/2021 16:36

Why should I care about you?

Absolutely and utterly describes what is wrong with much of society today.

C8H10N4O2 · 19/02/2021 17:30

I only care about myself, my close family, and my close friends. Why should I care about you?

Delightful.

OK here's a reason why you should care - NHS capacity and services won't improve until the bulk of the top groups are vaccinated. The priority groups are those mostly likely to need hospitalisation.

That's a capacity restriction that will affect the vaccinated as much as the unvaccinated.

Flossie44 · 19/02/2021 17:52

W Sussex and my 23 yr old is being vaccinated next week. No underlying reason

BarbaraofKent · 19/02/2021 17:59

It feels a bit like mass numbers are the goal rather than prioritising reducing pressure on the NHS

What do you mean by this? Of course mass numbers are the goal, we have been told since the beginning that the vaccine is the way out this.

The government can't win - if they weren't vaccinating quickly people would be moaning, the country is doing amazing at getting people vaccinated and people are still bloody moaning!

FuzzyPuffling · 19/02/2021 18:00

My area has just said that they will be able to run a clinic next weekend (they only vaccinate at weekends) because the adjoining area has handed over some vaccines to even it all out. They will be doing more Group 5 and 6s.

There is some kindness and fairness in the system.
