Vaccine offered to all 16-65 year olds at my GP

Surprisevaccine · 18/02/2021 18:37

That's what's happened at my GP and I had mine today, 27 no underlying health conditions. Has it happened at anyone elses?

Wasn't expecting to receive it until the Autumn!

I should add that in addition to me and DH not having any serious health issues, and only being in our mid 50s, we are not key workers, and are actually both furloughed... Yet we are being vaccinated tomorrow. We are as puzzled as some people on here.

As a pp said, I do wonder if it depends on your postcode/where you live...

Quite annoying for people who are older, and/or have health conditions, or whose partner does. I hope you get called in soon!

@fidgetarse I don't think the OP has posted this to wind people up. She is entitled to ask if others have been offered the vaccine... (even though they weren't yet 'due...')

Me and DH weren't 'due' but like hell were we going to turn it down. I don't think it's fair to be resentful and angry towards the younger/fitter people being offered the vaccine.

As a few posters have said, let's just be grateful that SO many people are been vaccinated in such a short amount of time. Nearly 17 million in 10 weeks!

The more who are protected, the better, (no matter what their age/or what health conditions they have/don't have.) as it will ultimately protect more vulnerable people.

@GameSetMatch

Back to the old postcode lottery!
Yup......

Hardly fair.

oakleaffy · 18/02/2021 21:10

So those who live in other areas just have to lump it.....

''I'm alright, Jack!''

Devlesko · 18/02/2021 21:12

Really pleased for you OP.
NW will be the furthest behind, again.
Although we are in front with cases. Angry

pryunm · 18/02/2021 21:14

Yes I know of two 19 and 24 years old no underlying conditions plus their mums early 50s no underlying conditions who have had theirs. One lives in W1 and one in a similar postcode to W1.

Tangledtresses · 18/02/2021 21:15

Yes rolled it out today... already so many booked in
Friends who are 33 with asthma etc

Woo hoooo

BonnesVacances · 18/02/2021 21:15

My CV DD was refused the vaccine today for the second time as the GP doesn't consider her eligible for group 6, despite being advised to shield by her consultant cardiologist and her existing health condition having been exacerbated since catching Covid 10 months ago and now having long Covid.

None of it makes any sense anymore. It's baffling. Confused

Loopyloututu · 18/02/2021 21:16

My friend had hers today, 45 no health conditions, south Manchester. They are apparently just very ahead in her area.

SongSilkTrainspot · 18/02/2021 21:16

Yep.

Northerners just have to wait. Londoners and those in the south are FAR more important.....

I noticed those in wealthy London boroughs have had not one, but TWO vaccines!

It isn't just or fair.

gigity · 18/02/2021 21:17

A friend who is healthy in their 30s had it today.
I'm a bit confused tbh about it as I know a police officer in their 50s with asthma & a bit overweight who is waiting.

gigity · 18/02/2021 21:17

Both in London

scrivette · 18/02/2021 21:17

Our local surgery (South East) is offering people in 30's/40's vaccinations now.

VinylDetective · 18/02/2021 21:17

@mangothoughts

I am somewhat horrified by this! How unfair that some areas haven't even got through the over 60s or those at higher risk due to health conditions and in other areas healthy 20 somethings are being vaccinated.

I understand that sometimes there are cancellations, or spare jabs that would be wasted at the end of a day, but to be happily vaccinating a group of healthy young people ahead of those more at risk is just crazy! Surely different GPs/practices could help out those nearby that are further behind??

I agree. It makes a complete mockery of vaccinating in order of vulnerability. I thought the roll out was the one aspect of this shitstorm that was going right. It’s really, really disappointing to read this.

wow

bg21 · 18/02/2021 21:17

38 and had mine today x I'm west sussex too

Mum768 · 18/02/2021 21:19

Where we live in North London, over 70s aren't all vaccinated from what people have shared in the local groups. Wish we got the vaccines soon but no hope for us right now with us being in our late 30s.

Bagamoyo1 · 18/02/2021 21:20

This seems very strange.

I’m a GP in the midlands and we’re limited by vaccine supply. We could make ourselves available to vaccinate 24-7 but we couldn’t go faster than we currently are , because of the limited supply of vaccines we receive.
One variable that could be at play here though, is the number of people going to the vaccine hubs. A lot of patients have received government letters, saying they can book into hubs for their vaccine. Most of our patients choose to come to the GP instead, because our nearest hubs are a bit of a drive. Maybe in other areas that isn’t the case, and lots of people are going to the hubs, thereby freeing up the GP capacity.
But I’m still baffled that healthy people in their 20s are getting their jabs already.

Affectation · 18/02/2021 21:22

I have a suspicion that they'll vaccinate the 18-30 age group before they do the 30-50s.

Bluebolt · 18/02/2021 21:23

It still must be that the thread attracts the outliers as the overall vaccine figures do not represent this happening wide spread.

SoulofanAggron · 18/02/2021 21:23

I know that some areas near me have poor takeup, as there are a lot of BAME people who aren't going for it.

The centres were just twiddling their thumbs and vaccines were going to waste, so they've opened it up to more people.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 18/02/2021 21:24

"Better that as many as possible get vaxxed than we waste vaccines."
Yes I agree, and good on local operations getting people jabbed if it would go to waste.

But something is going wrong with the strategy/logistics, clearly, if there is insufficient to vax priority groups in some areas, but it being offered to the young and healthy elsewhere.

CrochetOrBust · 18/02/2021 21:24

@Surprisevaccine

Not a mistake. I called up in advance and spoke to the receptionist as was worried it was. I also then spoke to the two nurses today who gave me the vaccine.

I'm in W. Sussex.

I’m also in West Sussex, meet the criteria for group 6 and haven’t been offered a jab yet so don’t think it’s a county-wide policy (I hope not, anyway)

Im in W Sussex too, be interested to know if you are near me, I live near Gatwick. I had mine in January but I am an NHS worker and 56, I ask because my DD got an email inviting her for a vaccine but as she is 25 she said it must be a scam and ignored it, maybe not though if you have had yours.
