Vaccine offered to all 16-65 year olds at my GP

Surprisevaccine · 18/02/2021 18:37

That's what's happened at my GP and I had mine today, 27 no underlying health conditions. Has it happened at anyone elses?

Wasn't expecting to receive it until the Autumn!

@mrsm43s

We'll I'm just over the border in Surrey, and we're not even onto the Gp 6 Clinically vulnerable yet. Honestly, it's a travesty if healthy 20 somethings 5 miles away are taking priority over the vulnerable here. I doubt it's happening though.
I'm get so annoyed with healthy younger people being offered it. A work colleague of mine has been offered it because " he knows someone who can get it for him ", I expect related to his daughter working in a pharmacy.
hedgehogger1 · 18/02/2021 20:29

Ffs postcode lottery. I'm CV and a teacher. God knows when mine will be

LunaHeather · 18/02/2021 20:29

@SarahLox77

I know lots of 50-somethings who've had one, and a few 40-somethings. No known health conditions. North London.
Interesting

I am North London, 45, mild asthma

I got the text today and was very surprised. I made an appointment but I have older friends who would be unhappy about it if I told them.

They'd literally bite my arm off, leave me in a pool of blood and go pose as me. Now, I must find the phone and see what it says about ID!

Alicenwonderland · 18/02/2021 20:30

I think it's area. I had mine on Tuesday, I'm a carer for my son but only 43. It's a huge operation where I am (south west) and they have a massive building with loads of vaccines being done, they must be doing hundreds a day. I can see them getting the whole of my town done in a few weeks with the sped and set up of the operation!

GinPin2 · 18/02/2021 20:30

How can different areas have finished vaccinating the 65s and over? That cohort only officially started 3 days ago !

WinterIsGone · 18/02/2021 20:33

It's not the speed of the operation that's the problem. It's getting the vaccine.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 18/02/2021 20:36

I'm 47 and had a text invitation on Monday. I was very surprised but accepted as didn't want to bother the GP. It might be worth looking at the new criteria as since it's been updated I think I probably fall into the Group 6 16-65 category because of a leg clot I had a couple of years back (also had a similar problem post-birth years back). Thromboemolism is now a risk factor. I've also been treated for high blood pressure in the past but that's controlled on its own now without medication but not sure if they've updated my records. I think ACE inhibitors increase the risk for being more severely affected by COVID (but they haven't broadcast that too much as obviously don't want everyone binning their blood pressure pills!)

DH also got an invitation a couple of hours later. I can only think they are offering people in the same household as Group 6 a vaccination also. Because the only thing he has on his records is one epileptic episode as a child, and high cholesterol.

bridgetreilly · 18/02/2021 20:36

It's weird isn't it? We are shocked to be called in, as we were SURE the 65-70 y.o. would be next. Then the 60-65. Then 55-60.

But that's not how the groups worked. It was 65-70yos, then it was 16-64 with health conditions.

Over 55's with no health conditions were always quite far down the list.

TheByngster · 18/02/2021 20:36

I’m group 9 and am going on Monday for mine. I was very surprised to be summoned. My husband who’s group 7 is still waiting to hear.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 18/02/2021 20:37

Meant to say, DH and I are both keyworkers. I work in a school so quite anxious about my added risk anyway so I jumped at the chance to have the vaccine and don't feel at all guilty at having it over someone who is shielding and not had one yet.

Dentistlakes · 18/02/2021 20:37

I do worry we’ll see first vaccinations slowing right down once the second vaccinations start ramping up, but maybe that’s already been taken into account in the planning? Of course it’s much better to use the vaccine rather than having it wasted, but it does seem unfair we have vulnerable patients still unvaccinated whilst much younger non vulnerable patients are getting vaccinated. Both my parents who are in their 80’s have had their first one, so I’m relieved about that and also my in laws who are in their 70’s. I do wish they would prioritise front line workers though.

wonderstuff · 18/02/2021 20:38

This is really strange, only 25% of the population have been vaccinated so we should only be on the over 60s. While vaccinating is better than not, the priority list is really key in reducing hospitalizations and deaths.

Seems to me that this is a distribution issue, of some centres have got through all priority groups either they've been given too many doses or there's been a low take up.

I'm near north Hampshire and here they're on over 60s. DSF has appointment at the weekend.

I overheard a nurse telling a volunteer that it was good to get as many done as possible while they've got plenty of supplies.
2020isnotbehaving · 18/02/2021 20:39

Meanwhile in wales one local health board massive area is closing every site for two weeks as trouble with supply. Still doing the 65-70 and up there.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board has confirmed a two-week closure for all of its Covid-19 vaccination centres, including the one in #Bridgend County Borough, due to anticipated supply issues.

SirVixofVixHall · 18/02/2021 20:39

My friend in W Sussex is 56 and hasn’t been offered hers yet, her DH who has cancer has only just been offered his, so what is going on ?

wonderstuff · 18/02/2021 20:40

@Dentistlakes the supply is set to increase in March when second doses start. It should be slowing a little this week as Pfizer upgrade a factory but today's figure was higher than last week's.

SnottyLottie · 18/02/2021 20:41

I work in a hospital that offers the vaccine. On days when we have excess supplies we’ve been offering it to anyone over the age of 18 who are at the hospital for outpatient appointments.

Amber2019 · 18/02/2021 20:41

I'm in Glasgow and 18 to 65 year olds with underlying conditions are being done right now. Unpaid carers also. It seems to be picking up speed but I imagine it will slow down again with second jabs then speed up. My sister had her second last week. She's a care worker though.

Lotusmonster · 18/02/2021 20:43

DD is a student medic in Sheffield ...she’s been offered but not actually received....apparently there’s a shortage of vaccine for medics in Sheffield 😞....shes training on a ward twice a week.

Shrivelled · 18/02/2021 20:43

So you’re 100% sure your medical notes weren’t coded to receive the vaccine in group 6? My sibling was added to group 6 because he had mental health problems years ago. I will also be in group 6 for previous medical history rather than a current condition. The full group 6 list is in the covid green book on the government website. The full list is not on the NHS website so if you’re going by that then you may well not have one of the obvious listed conditions.

SirVixofVixHall · 18/02/2021 20:44

@FuzzyPuffling

My area have stated they don't have enough vaccines for groups 5&6, and it seems hugely unfair that vulnerable groups are still unvaccinated when younger, less-risks groups are receiving theirs. I'd like to see it far more evenly spread across the country. That would seem far more prudent.
Agree with this .
FidgetArse · 18/02/2021 20:44

Its being offered to 16-65 WITH conditions

Lets hope your GP surgery doesnt keep vaccinating HEALTHY young people, because it will lead to DEATHS

HelloThereMeHearties · 18/02/2021 20:44

Yes that is happening at the hospital my SIL works at, as well.
TrickyD · 18/02/2021 20:44

DH and I have both had first jab. We are 76 and 69.

Today our 16 year old grandson received an invitation from the GP’s surgery to have the jab next week

Puzzling, no underlying medical conditions, not overweight, mixed race - but so is his sister, 15 and not offered it,

His dad, also unjabbed, is rather rueful.

Autumn101 · 18/02/2021 20:45

I’m W Sussex and my local area is only just starting 65 and over
