Vaccine offered to all 16-65 year olds at my GP

Surprisevaccine · 18/02/2021 18:37

That's what's happened at my GP and I had mine today, 27 no underlying health conditions. Has it happened at anyone elses?

Wasn't expecting to receive it until the Autumn!

OP posts:

My DP is 40 this year and has been invited to go next week, we’re very north wales. I’m 33 but haven’t been called yet.

Motorina · 18/02/2021 20:05

For those posting here about friends/family 70+ who can't get a vaccine, anyone over 65 can now book directly online. So if you or someone you know is in that category then there's a way for you to get it.

AnxiousAlpaca · 18/02/2021 20:05

@Florelei

Whilst I’m pleased for all of you who are getting vaccines, if it is true that 20 somethings with no health conditions are getting vaccinated in certain areas, this is outrageous.

We are in the north east and we were told that because we did so well with the over 80s we needed to wait until other areas caught up. We have only just started on group 6 in my local area.

NE myself and confirmed group 6 but heard nothing yet though my GP surgery has said it shouldn’t be long.
RedMarauder · 18/02/2021 20:06

@JoannaDory

Friends in Suffolk in their 50s are being vaccinated; in fact most have already been done and the last has an appointment for next week. Currently in London and my 70 year old neighbour can't get a vaccination and only one of my ECV friends in their early 70s has been jabbed. Still some way to go here I think.
I know people in their 60s who have had the jab in London.

It really depends on what CCG you come under and where exactly you live, as if you near a few vaccine centres you can get called up to any of them with short notice.

OverTheRainbow88 · 18/02/2021 20:08

The more the vaccinated the better.

With all this talk of vaccination passports I understand younger people wanting to get the jab ASAP

FuzzyPuffling · 18/02/2021 20:10

My area have stated they don't have enough vaccines for groups 5&6, and it seems hugely unfair that vulnerable groups are still unvaccinated when younger, less-risks groups are receiving theirs.
I'd like to see it far more evenly spread across the country. That would seem far more prudent.

Mylittlesandwich · 18/02/2021 20:12

I think the pfizer vaccine can only be transported so many times so once it's got where it's going it has to stay there?

RinkyD · 18/02/2021 20:13

Could this be a sign of mass refusals?

missfliss · 18/02/2021 20:16

I'm in West Sussex too - no sign of that here in my particular location ( Shoreham-By-Sea). Where in West Sussex are you OP?

HelloThereMeHearties · 18/02/2021 20:16

@RinkyD

Could this be a sign of mass refusals?
Not in West Sussex, where OP is Grin

That could be more of an issue in areas with more BAME residents, I know there's going to be a big push to get different ethnicities to take up the jab.

LadyDanburysCane · 18/02/2021 20:16

I work in school, no distancing, no masks - I’m desperate to have the vaccine but I’m 52, no underlying conditions, unlikely to get it for quite a while yet 😞

GintyMcGinty · 18/02/2021 20:17

@Motorina anyone over 65 can now book directly online

Only if they are in England

AlanThePig · 18/02/2021 20:17

47, Staffs.

Had a text from GP today telling me to book. I have Hypermobility Joint Syndrome and get a flu jab annually but was surprised to get the text, especially as 49 year old DH hasn't had one.

littlepattilou · 18/02/2021 20:17

@Surprisevaccine

I can quite believe this. DH and I got a phone call each this morning, (10 minutes apart,) to come in tomorrow afternoon. They said 'hello Mr C/Mrs C, we are currently offering the covid vaccine, is it something you would be interested in?'

We both said yes, and are going for ours tomorrow afternoon. DH at 2pm, and me at 3pm. We are in our mid 50s. No serious underlying health issues.

My neighbour went yesterday, and said they were whizzing through them, like 3 or 4 people every 5 minutes. (Five people were giving the vaccines - 2 doctors, and 3 nurses...') She also said, that apart from a couple of people, the 10 or 12 people in front of her looked under 50. Even the other 2 only looked mid 50s.

I am in in the north midlands by the way. And this time tomorrow, I shall have had the Covid19 vaccination. And my DH too. Grin

Coyoacan · 18/02/2021 20:17

Congratulations to everyone who has been vaccinated, but what appalling planning!

CaptainVanesHair · 18/02/2021 20:18

I know my GP (Suffolk) have been working down through the groups if they’ve got to about 4pm and know there’s going to be some left over.

They’ve also spoken about how they wish they could be doing second vaccinations in the circumstances, and are doing a big local push to get refusals and no shows to change their minds.

CoffeeandCroissant · 18/02/2021 20:18

@AndreaMartelsCoat

I'm not sure if I'm going to come across as a grumpy, fed up human but I'm over 50, should've been in group 4 and have heard diddly squat.

The system does seem to need to be fairer.

Anyone in group 4 should have been offered an appointment by now, so you should probably be contacting them at this point if you have heard nothing.
Akire · 18/02/2021 20:19

Even if they had boot fills of vaccine no one wanted. They know she is massive factor and should still be doing the oldest first. Hard to believe they have all this spare capacity and everyone else has been done so just fit young 20s left.

littlepattilou · 18/02/2021 20:20

@Coyoacan

Congratulations to everyone who has been vaccinated, but what appalling planning!
It's weird isn't it? We are shocked to be called in, as we were SURE the 65-70 y.o. would be next. Then the 60-65. Then 55-60.

I thought I would be done in April or something. Being only 53.

FishWithoutABike · 18/02/2021 20:20

This is such good news. There will be unfairness and it will be a postcode lottery but we will get the most people done ASAP and we can all move on from this extreme relentless (NW so literally relentless) restrictions.

DigitalGhost · 18/02/2021 20:22

My GPs called loads of younger folk yesterday for the vaccine then realised they'd read the list wrong and cancelled them all. 😵‍💫

CoffeeandCroissant · 18/02/2021 20:22

@AndreaMartelsCoat Or try the national NHS booking link if in England. (If that doesn't work then GP or phone 119?)

motherrunner · 18/02/2021 20:23

@OverTheRainbow88

The more the vaccinated the better.

I don’t care about a vaccine passport. I’m mid 40s and just want to feel safe in the classroom.
Bluebolt · 18/02/2021 20:24

It’s only good news if they get the top 9 done, the figures show that this is a long way off. It’s good news for the individual but not for the overall plan or the getting to key workers after the top 9.

HelloThereMeHearties · 18/02/2021 20:24

@Coyoacan

Congratulations to everyone who has been vaccinated, but what appalling planning!
There's only so much top-down planning you can do. At some point it hits the local level, and actual humans, and all the problems that ensue.

We could have worse problems, so some people getting it earlier than others is not that bad.
