Vaccine offered to all 16-65 year olds at my GP

Surprisevaccine · 18/02/2021 18:37

That's what's happened at my GP and I had mine today, 27 no underlying health conditions. Has it happened at anyone elses?

Wasn't expecting to receive it until the Autumn!

I was informed today by the practice manager that this is happening at our GP practice too. DH is group 6 and not been invited yet.

C8H10N4O2 · 19/02/2021 18:06

What do you mean by this? Of course mass numbers are the goal, we have been told since the beginning that the vaccine is the way out this.

Because if your main goal is reducing the pressure on services and enabling society to open up more then the priority sequencing matters. If your main goal is just raw numbers then priority groups don't matter but it will take longer to alleviate severe cases and open up society more.

So if your target is earliest opening up of normality the priority system needs to be followed as far as possible.

Bluebolt · 19/02/2021 18:22

A percentage of the vaccines from my area is provided to the mass hubs in the next two cities but as group 6 cannot access the hubs, and group 5 are preferring to stay local the difference in the areas is becoming very obvious. The hubs instead of being area hubs have become city centred hubs. This will only even out when the booking system opens up to larger groups.

mumsneedwine · 19/02/2021 18:26

I'd travel hours to get a vaccine. Why can't over 50s be offered that option if there is vaccine going spare ?

AndreaMartelsCoat · 19/02/2021 18:29

I'm becoming really tearful now reading this,I should stop. I think I may have been missed completely as I said above, I tried to call my Gp today but the receptionist was very frosty and said she couldn't help. I'll try to contact my consultants secretary on Monday.

Anyone who says furlough is a breeze and fun can bog off, I know that's totally irrelevant to the thread.

bonbonours · 19/02/2021 18:33

A friend of mine in Worthing ages 42 no underlying conditions nor obese told me she got given an appointment next week so I believe it. It's messed up though when other areas are not getting the group 6 people done yet.

Dementedswan · 19/02/2021 18:45

I'm going to have to stop coming on here. 45 high BP, heart issues and I've been bumped off group 6. I've lived with anxiety since my 20s too. Docs agreed I should have been included but they can't do anything but follow the government for fairness.

Only me in my family apart from dc has not had a vaccination. I had a docs telephone apt today, which my dh had to take as I'm deaf. Straight up there today for emergency apt and put on anti depressants. That was the first time I've had a conversation with someone outside my household in months.

How is that fair?

Evidencebased · 19/02/2021 19:22

Bloody hell.
Here in Norfolk, late sixties, clinically vulnerable, haven't been in a shop for nearly a year, basically solitary confinement , and I can't get an appointment . Well, I could if I could drive 48miles each way, but that's way beyond me.Been offered one in Brighton.
The last year's been, well, interesting , but doable. I was clear from the start that I needed to be careful for the long haul, but that was ok-I knew why I was doing it.
This week, for the first time, my every other week protected supermarket delivery didn't turn up, and I can't book a vaccine.
I feel like giving up.

OverTheRainbow88 · 19/02/2021 19:34

@Evidencebased

If you can drive I would make the journey, with breaks in the way

OverTheRainbow88 · 19/02/2021 19:49

I read an article about NHS bosses asking those i. their 50s and under to cancel their appointments which are booked in error, even in areas where vaccines are racing ahead.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 19/02/2021 20:11

I haven't read all the posts, so apologies if this has been stated.

The Govt list is this:
Phase 1 – direct prevention of mortality and supporting the NHS and social care system
JCVI advises that the first priorities for the COVID-19 vaccination programme should be the prevention of mortality and the maintenance of the health and social care systems. As the risk of mortality from COVID-19 increases with age, prioritisation is primarily based on age. The order of priority for each group in the population corresponds with data on the number of individuals who would need to be vaccinated to prevent one death, estimated from UK data obtained from March to June 2020 (see reference 3):

residents in a care home for older adults and their carers
all those 80 years of age and over and frontline health and social care workers
all those 75 years of age and over
all those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals[footnote 1]
all those 65 years of age and over
all individuals aged 16 years[footnote 2] to 64 years with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality[footnote 3]
all those 60 years of age and over
all those 55 years of age and over
all those 50 years of age and over

At the moment the groups should be: 65 years of age and over and should be invited to a vaccination centre and
16 - 64 year olds WITH underlying health conditions, apparently being invited through GP surgeries.

I keep seeing posts from much younger people being invited and can only think that GP surgeries are misreading the criteria. Well done to the people that have had their vaccine but it is clear that some people that should be getting their vaccine in this phase are missing out.

Dementedswan · 19/02/2021 20:32

According to my gp surgery, they are sent lists of names who they should contact by the government/NHS england and are strictly sticking to it for fairness.

They have acknowledged my risk is high, but said their hands are tied. I came away with anti depressants to go along side my bp/ heart and anxiety meds.

Jobseeker19 · 19/02/2021 20:39

All of the staff in my nursery have been offered the vaccine. We were given a link to apply on. We are classed as social care workers.

Are teachers getting their yet?

OverTheRainbow88 · 19/02/2021 20:42

@Jobseeker19

Nope!! But glad nursery workers have 🥰

Jobseeker19 · 19/02/2021 20:44

That's surprising because teachers obviously work with teachers too.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 19/02/2021 20:47

Clearly, if you fall into categories 5 and 6 you should be being called.

So if you have an underlying health condition you should definitely have received or will receive an invite soon.

I think I also read somewhere that early years workers were going to also be invited.

There does seem to be a lot of people younger, with no underlying health conditions being invited so obviously something is going wrong because the JCVI haven't even realised the next categories. At the moment it is only 1 - 9. There are reports that it will still be administered by age but that hasn't been confirmed.

OverTheRainbow88 · 19/02/2021 20:48

@Jobseeker19

I think, totally my own opinion, that if they vaccinate teachers it would be admitting that schools aren’t as safe as they claim them to be!

Thiscantreallybehappening · 19/02/2021 20:48

haven't even released ...

wonderstuff · 20/02/2021 23:16

@Jobseeker19 they've backtracked now and nursery staff aren't being invited, they aren't classed as social care workers for vaccine list purposes. Some areas they were offered the jab but NHS now been told not to offer it.

Doesn't look like teachers will be given any priority. Does look like everyone will be offered by early summer though.

MouthAche · 24/02/2021 22:22

WanderingMilly · 26/02/2021 05:07

Anyone over 60 can now book, go through the NHS booking site. It was announced about 2 days ago although I never heard the announcement, a neighbour told me.

If you go on the booking site it says only 64+ and those who are vulnerable/carers etc., but that's because the site hasn't been updated since 22. Feb and won't be updated again until 8 March. If you know your NHS number, key it in and try booking. If the site rejects you, it will tell you and you'll have to book when you are called. If the site accepts you, you can book your vaccination. You are likely to have to go to a major vaccination hub though as it only lists the national hubs, for more local vaccinations you'll need to wait for your call-up. Depends if you want to travel to get your vaccination or just wait.

You are not "taking someone else's vaccination" if the site allows you to book, it checks your medical records (through your NHS number) when you book.

Pearl97 · 27/02/2021 16:45

Thank you @WanderingMilly. I have told several friends who have now booked. Crazy they don’t update the site as people worry they are taking other people’s vaccine.
