Annoyed by order of vaccine rollout

DreamyDreamer333 · 16/02/2021 19:58

My mum has missed out on being included in the over 65 group by a few months. People ahead of her include those with self inflicted conditions (such as my morbidly obese cousin) and carers. Anyone else annoyed by the order of the groupings ?

OP posts:
JayAlfredPrufrock · 16/02/2021 20:49

Hilarious at the EU being ahead of us in vaccine roll out 🙄😂

ThatDamnKrampus · 16/02/2021 20:50

Absolutely goady fucker!

Cillmantain · 16/02/2021 20:53

You are extremely unpleasant.
Fat shaming is nasty.
Order of vaccine is based on death risk you idiot.

Angel2702 · 16/02/2021 20:53

Over 60s will be in the next group to be called probably by end of March. I’m very sorry that I am a carer and jumping the queue. But I don’t see a long line of people offering to care for my autistic children if I become ill.

DENMAN03 · 16/02/2021 20:55

Well I had mine today. I'm under 50 but am a self inflicted fat person stealing more deserving people's vaccines!

I won't be losing any sleep over it.

OverTheRubicon · 16/02/2021 20:57

@Thurlow

Yes, but only because there are still frontline workers who haven't had the jab. Its shocking that police officers haven't had one yet.
You'd vaccinate a healthy 25 year old police officer, who has a tiny chance of becoming seriously ill even if they do.catch it, ahead of a 35 year old with a heart condition, or a single mother who cares for a profoundly disabled and critically vulnerable child? I don't understand this argument.
StepOutOfLine · 16/02/2021 20:57

@Sirzy, Italy.

BlueTimes · 16/02/2021 21:01

What a wonderful comfort to you to know your mum isn’t in a high risk category.

MrBullinaChinaShop · 16/02/2021 21:01

Police officers who have a higher risk of becoming seriously ill/dying will be vaccinated alongside others who have that same risk. Police officers who have no greater risk of becoming seriously ill or dying will be vaccinated at a later date.
GoldenPenPot · 16/02/2021 21:04

Fairly confident the original post is a wind-up. No one actually thinks like that do they?

KeepWashingThoseHands · 16/02/2021 21:05

Wow

Just when you thought you’d read it all on MN.

Trumplosttheelection · 16/02/2021 21:06

I'm a fat nhs worker. I took the vaccine from your mother's hands and rolled around in it laughing.

Ffs

Hmm
KeepWashingThoseHands · 16/02/2021 21:06

I think it’s also designed to be inflammatory / click bait.

Thurlow · 16/02/2021 21:52

I'd vaccinate those in the police who are out dealing with the public or who are somewhere like custody, yes. Along with teachers, early years practitioners, and certain shop workers.

I don't remotely disagree with the way it's been rolled out so far and with who has been deemed clinically necessary. I just think there hits a point where those I mention above should be put into a higher priority group.

You do realise that it's a resourcing issue with the police as well? Just like teachers. Some places are down a huge percentage of their front line police officers due to isolations - and what affect do you think that then has on the police's ability to respond to emergencies?

It's not as simple as saying I pick a healthy 25 hear old officer over someone more vulnerable. I'd like to see police officers, like teachers, able to safely perform their job.

CavernousScream · 16/02/2021 22:06

Yes, I think a better way to do it would have been if we all filled in a questionnaire to fully establish our moral worth. Then a government appointed commission could just rank us on when we deserve the vaccine. Sure, a lot more people will die, but it’s important that people are taught lessons about their value. Bit of a weird curve ball that being a carer isn’t going to be up there as worth living, but I’m sure the morality police know best.

ButtonMoonPie · 16/02/2021 22:22

Nope. I'm impressed by the speed of the vaccine rollout and understand it has to follow a set of defined rules rather than be a moral decision about each individual persons worthiness.

Angel2702 · 16/02/2021 22:32

@CircleofWillis

Odious as the Ops post is she is not saying caring is self inflicted if her use of brackets is accurate.
No but she clearly has an issue that carers are being vaccinated otherwise she wouldn’t have mentioned them specifically.
Vargas · 16/02/2021 22:39

My frail 82yo DM hasn't even been given a vague date yet. She's in another country but she'll still be way behind your 64yo DM. Does that make you feel any better?

JayAlfredPrufrock · 16/02/2021 22:41

Italy has vaccinated less than 5% of its population.

BlackeyedSusan · 16/02/2021 23:15

Oh I know, so selfish carer here, two disabled children, and we have unreasonably collected more than one diagnosis for each child. Greedy me is going for my second diagnosis too. Maybe I could share out conditions a bit so more people can benefit from getting vaccines a few weeks earlier!

motherrunner · 17/02/2021 06:57

I’m a mid-40s secondary teacher. I teach over 150+ people a day. What does your mum do? If she WFH, or works in a place with safety measures, how dare she get the vaccine before me just because she’s 20 years older?

My mum is in a nursing home. I haven’t seen her for a year. She hasn’t had her vaccine yet. How dare your mum have hers when I can’t see my mum?!

See how awful those statements sound? The Government have decided the priority list and, quite rightly, we are protecting those who are a greater risk of death.

PinkTonic · 17/02/2021 07:38

I don’t agree with the OP at all but the resounding rejection of the notion and the level of vitriol is interesting. I don’t remember anything like the same response when people were on here complaining about elderly being vaccinated ahead of the ‘young economically active’, or suggesting all teaching staff should go to the head of the queue irrespective of personal risk. In fact I was horrified reading how many either didn’t understand or didn’t care that risk of death was the factor because on those threads there were few dissenting voices.

Wherediditgo · 17/02/2021 08:03

This vaccination program cannot be reduced to any one individual. It’s very short sighted to see it that way. It’s about the whole of society - anyone getting a back one is a good thing and it’s always going to appear ‘unfair’ to some.
This is very selfish thinking.
