Annoyed by order of vaccine rollout

My mum has missed out on being included in the over 65 group by a few months. People ahead of her include those with self inflicted conditions (such as my morbidly obese cousin) and carers. Anyone else annoyed by the order of the groupings ?

OP posts:

Carers aren’t prioritised for their own risk. It’s to protect the vulnerable people they care for. Is that ok with you OP?

Maybe you should just be happy that your mum stands less chance of dying of covid (and many others things) than your morbidly obese cousin.

happytoday73 · 16/02/2021 20:12

Well you are delightful about other people aren't you....
You could get your knichers in a twist... Or you could just let those in more clinical need get their vaccine first....
.. Lots of people just miss being in a higher bracket by months.. A 49 year old, overweight man with various conditions... But not clinically vulnerable... and lots of social interactions is also likely frustrated he hasn't turned 50 yet... But that's life...

ZydecoLaydee · 16/02/2021 20:13

Or think about the scientists who actually developed the vaccine, working 7 days a week since March, in the lab with live virus, but haven’t got it yet, are they moaning? No, because they are trying to work out the consequences of the new variants!!!

PersonaNonGarter · 16/02/2021 20:14

No.

Urgh. Your mum hasn’t ‘missed out’. She’s on one of the fastest vaccine roll outs in the world and she ill get her vaccine soon.

OP have you considered that you might be a bit of a dick?

Toilenstripes · 16/02/2021 20:15

Envy is the most unattractive and vile characteristic.

@GintyMcGinty

Give your head a bloody wobble

They are ahead in the queue because they are more likely to die.

This sums up my thoughts. I understand you are worried about your mum but there is a logic to the order.

My mum is a 59 year old teacher who is in secondary school every day. Her 65 year old friends (mainly retired or working from home) have just about all had their vaccines.

That doesn’t make sense to me. I’m not sure what the answer is though. I’m hopeful she will get hers in a few weeks.

StepOutOfLine · 16/02/2021 20:17

Shame you're a Brexiter OP, over here in that evil, monolithic, incompetent Europe, your mam would be next in line. We're on the 18-55s now.

Redcrayons · 16/02/2021 20:17

She’ll get it a couple of weeks later than if she was a few months older. Calm down.

Where in Europe? My Mil is in her late 70s and lives in mainland Europe and not had hers yet sadly
SummerHouse · 16/02/2021 20:19

@JayAlfredPrufrock

I’ve had my vaccine as I volunteer in the community.

I’ve also just eaten six pancakes.

This is my favourite response!
Nohomemadecandles · 16/02/2021 20:19

Eurgh. Vile

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 16/02/2021 20:19

No, but I'm completely baffled by how my 37 yo cousin, who is slim, fit and healthy with no underlying conditions, has been offered one, and his dad, who's almost 60 with a heart condition, hasn't. Confused

CircleofWillis · 16/02/2021 20:19

Odious as the Ops post is she is not saying caring is self inflicted if her use of brackets is accurate.

MrsFrisbyMouse · 16/02/2021 20:20

Obesity is not as simple an issue as just fat people who eat too much. The issue starts often in childhood. The link between ACE (adverse childhood experiences) and obesity are well documented. This is actually a much wider societal issue, and one that demands empathy and understanding. And hopefully is something that our experiences with Covid can highlight in terms of child poverty and the effects of socio economic conditions in childhood.

I'm a carer looking after other people's vulnerable family members and putting my health at risk. I've seen 12 people die from covid and glad the government put carers like myself and the top of the list before your mum op. Get over yourself

MrBullinaChinaShop · 16/02/2021 20:20

How exactly would you like it to happen? For them to say to your cousin ‘oi fatty, you clearly just eat too many pies so I’m not jabbing you, I’ll give a 64 year old a call instead’?
The order is based on risk of death. Your cousin is at greater risk of death from Covid than your mum. Surely the fact that your mum’s risk is lower is a good thing?

CoffeeRunner · 16/02/2021 20:20

I’ve had my vaccine as a frontline NHS worker. My job was self inflicted.

Your DM is 64. She is not 65. There has to be a cut off somewhere.

SavoyCabbage · 16/02/2021 20:21

She hasn't missed out though. She's only 64 so they aren't up to her. It's not her turn.
