Out of curiosity, how many people do you actually know had COVID or sadly died with it?

So in our company of about 1000 employees, 40 people (including their immediate family) have had COVID and recovered.

OP posts:

I've had it at the start of the year. Like a flu but a tight chest. Back to normal in 8 days.

Colleague who is 58 was hospitalised.
Colleagues who is 40, mild flu symptoms.
Colleagues grandad, I think he was late 70s who died but also had underlying health conditions so you just never know.

Spodge · 13/02/2021 17:52

I know 2 who had it and recovered in the first wave.

I know 1 who had it and died in the second wave.

I know 8 who had it and recovered in the current wave.

I know of plenty more who have had it and recovered and a few more who had it and died, but they are online or friends of friends, not people I know in person.

loads. 50+ people.

All recovered apart from my friends dad who died yesterday after being on a ventilator.

PuzzledObserver · 13/02/2021 17:56

Let’s see.....

  • Next door neighbour.
  • Colleague
  • Another colleague’s father (died)
  • Two other colleagues plus their partners
  • Nephew
  • Brother-in law
  • Another nephew and his partner
  • DH and me. Plus most of the staff and virtually all of the residents at the care home where he works.
  • Sister.
  • Quite a few people I know via facebook
rosy71 · 13/02/2021 17:58

At least 40.

dracet · 13/02/2021 17:59

In November, 14 children in my youngest child's primary class tested positive (as did 2 members of staff. My oldest tested positive just before before schools broke up for Christmas. Youngest child's teacher tested positive mid-January. 3 other support staff from EYFS in DCs school have tested positive in last week.
SIL and good friend have also tested positive last spring/summer - both work in NHS.

AmIBeingTwatty · 13/02/2021 18:00

50+ people
I know 11 who have died; 6 of them were under 50 with no previous health conditions

EveryoneRevealsThemselves · 13/02/2021 18:00

I know about 40 people who’ve had it.
4 deaths.
Hospitalised two friends in their 30s and a healthy 15 year old.

N4ish · 13/02/2021 18:02

9 or 10 cases. All mild and recovered quickly thankfully.

Northernsoullover · 13/02/2021 18:02

Probably around 20. Two died. One was in her 90s and the other 63. That's personally mind you. I was a contact tracer for a few months so saw thousands of names. If you saw someone who you knew you couldn't make the call so you had to sit on that knowledge and hope to hell they would be ok.

LimitIsUp · 13/02/2021 18:02

Not that many directly.

A school friend of my ds (16) had it - mild. Recovered.

My 18 year old dd had it - mild. Recovered.

My dd's friend who works in a nursing home (18) had it - mild. Recovered

My dh's office manager in her 50's had it - mild, recovered.

Two friend's mums in their seventies had it - both struggled with it and felt unwell for several weeks but didn't require hospitalisation

My primary school teacher friend, 52, had it mildly and recovered as did her 16 year old son.

Very fortunate not to have loved ones and friends who have been very sick or died, but aware it could happen, we are not out of the woods by a long way

NaToth · 13/02/2021 18:03

I would say I know about 20 people who have had it and two have died.

One probably did have underlying issues. The other, I'm not sure. He worked on public transport and caught it at work.

SandysMam · 13/02/2021 18:03

I know about 100 people who’ve had it, 3 who have died and about 7 who have been hospitalised and recovered. Up until November I only knew 1!

AIMummy · 13/02/2021 18:04

Lost count. I know five who passed away from it, one who went in intensive care but recovered and the rest recovered (including my family and I).

NeverWillIEver · 13/02/2021 18:04

10+

One death (my dad)

TheFairyCaravan · 13/02/2021 18:05

DS2’s friend and colleague died last week.
DH’s friend’s father died at the end of January.
Someone DH used to work with spent about 8 weeks in ITU
MIL’s neighbour had it in the first wave.
DS1 knows a fair few soldiers who’ve tested positive without showing symptoms.

Then there’s all the ones that DS2 and DDIL have looked after in hospital.

PlinkPlink · 13/02/2021 18:05

I know 5 that had it in the second wave.

My SB was in ICU with it on oxygen.

He is still suffering now and is exhausted very easily.

Pipandmum · 13/02/2021 18:06

About six who I actually know (not just know of), and about five who are pretty sure they've had it but didn't get tested. All fairly mild, loss if taste and exhausted eith lingering cough, two hospitalised, one (fit, 40s) who has long covid and is relearning how to walk.

Kittytheteapot · 13/02/2021 18:07

Directly know? No-one.

1word · 13/02/2021 18:07

I know one person personally who's had it. (Mid 20s, healthy, felt better within a couple of days of symptoms appearing)

I don't know anyone who's died from it.

Yellredder · 13/02/2021 18:07

Lost count. I work in a College and it was rampant through the Autumn term, can’t believe I didn’t end up with it. I’ve known three people die of it - all elderly.

MySaladDays75 · 13/02/2021 18:10

10ish, all mild none serious or died.

Charles11 · 13/02/2021 18:12

I know so many people who’ve had it. Thankfully, mainly mild, including me.
Dh was very ill but thankfully didn’t need hospital treatment. One friend was in hospital and was on the verge of intubation but started to recover. They threw everything at her.
Friends dh was in hospital and is still having breathing issues 6 weeks later.
6 deaths that I know of. 4 were early 50’s, others older.
