@andadietcoke

According to the fb page per the earnings call they're aiming for Q3 authorisation in UK and US. So that's me not going on the cruise then.
argh. I honestly wouldn't write it off. It's a UK cruise right not subject to foreign border decisions? You have a certificate to say that you've been vaccinated. I'd be very surprised if they said a flat no. Totally different to trying to negotiate with a foreign official.

I think we all need to write to our contacts and clarify what's going on given that we've been told several times we would not be disadvantaged and yet we may be.

I've just checked the wording again and it says that we have to meet the NHS definition of 'fully vaccinated' which is 7 days after the second dose. By that definition I am fully vaccinated.

andadietcoke · 10/05/2021 22:56

I can't argue (yet) that I've been disadvantaged because I've still not been called up for my NHS vaccination, so even if it was tomorrow I wouldn't be 7-days post vaccination by 18 July.

Frazzled2207 · 10/05/2021 23:01

@andadietcoke
Fair enough. I became eligible two weeks ago and keep getting annoying texts and emails. Don’t want to officially refuse it because it doesn’t seem like a good idea to close the door on being vaccinated with something else (not that I would without a doctor’s approval).

I'd double check if you're just in UK. You have the A4 guarantee. Some ppl say it will go on the NHS app if your GP surgery does it.
Plus the Pfizer ppl only have a little card.
Some EU countries are already accepting Novovax, Greece def is.
I'd call the cruise company. Your certificate says you've been vaccinated with 2 doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.

Frazzled2207 · 10/05/2021 23:02

Interesting that Greece is I wonder if the rest of the EU might follow suit as I understand that a bumper order for the stuff is imminent.

It is not supposed to go on the nhs app until approved. But some people have somehow got round this and have it showing (i haven’t tried yet)

Thanks @PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears I'll have to catch that online.

@Frazzled2207 in Scotland we get a letter with an appt place and time so I had to call to cancel. When they asked the reason I said why. So its registered that I've had 2 vaccinations in a stage 3 trial.

Torvean · 10/05/2021 23:42

@andadietcoke

Saw this
The CEO saiid U.K. health regulators review the vaccine in April, followed by the FDA . So it could still happen in May.

Oh fingers crossed!! I've just been looking at their regulatory approval slides and they all have US, EU and UK in Q3 but if they have rolling data submission with the MHRA then your comment makes more sense.

Frazzled2207 · 10/05/2021 23:52

The data for the uk trial is all good afaik (American still in progress) but the potential issue is manufacturing and specifically the ability to scale up. Still not clear to me however if US manufacturing issues necessarily mean UK manufacturing issues. And the approvals process v different in both countries. Remember the US is apparently nowhere near approving AZ- though unlike us they never really needed it. Whatever is going on I just hope we get clarity regarding our vaccination status soon

Novavax delays vaccine approval plans to third quarter
Nikou Asgari

Novavax has pushed back its timeline and will apply for authorisation of its vaccine in the UK, US and Europe in the third quarter of the year as the company struggles to quickly collate the data required for submission.

“It’s just a long process,” Stanley Erck, chief executive of Novavax, told the Financial Times. “Our guidance had been that we’d get the project done by the second quarter and I’m now saying … we can’t get it all done by the end of June so it’s going to slip into the third quarter unfortunately.”

His comments came as the biotech reported first-quarter revenues of $447m, surpassing analysts’ expectations of $234m and surging beyond the $3m worth of sales that it booked in the same period last year.

The US and UK are not reliant on the Novavax jab for immunising their populations because orders from other authorised drugmakers have been met. But if authorised, the protein-based vaccine would boost the global supply of jabs and benefit developing countries, especially because the jab can be easily stored in a refrigerator.

Novavax’s two-dose vaccine has proved 96 per cent efficacy against the original strain of coronavirus and 86 per cent efficacy against the variant first detected in the UK.

“It’s the volume of work,” Erck said about the delay, adding that the company has gone from a staff of 150 to 900 over the past year. “I must have 100 consultants that are working on it.”

Novavax’s UK clinical trial data are complete but it is working on collecting manufacturing data that would show the drugmaker can safely and repeatedly make the same vaccine doses. Its US clinical trial is expected to finish in the second quarter of the year.

The Maryland-based company made a net loss of $223m in the three months to March. Analysts had expected a net loss of $256m.

Erck said the biotech has struggled with a shortage of raw materials including bags, filters and cell culture media. He said it was “painful” that one Novavax plant did not operate for three weeks because of a shortage of materials, which has now been resolved. If all its plants are operating at full capacity, Novavax should be able to make 150m doses every month, he added.

Novavax’s share price has rocketed nearly 4,000 per cent since the start of 2020. Its shares rose 3 per cent in after-market trading on Monday after closing 9 per cent lower.

I can report I have a sore arm after #4. Zero side effects from 1,2&3.

andadietcoke · 11/05/2021 10:00

Thanks @Frazzled2207
I've emailed Dr Baxter in the hope that he can include something about authorisation in his Friday update.

Ooh. Well that's something at least.

me too. Although my question is more framed around 'I've now been offered the vaccine via the NHS and wondering if I should be getting it given that approval is clearly not imminent and I might be disadvantaged'

Thanks Frazzled.

I've just emailed my GP surgery and they have miraculously replied quickly and confirmed that my records have been updated to say I am fully vaccinated. Hopefully this will feed through to any vaccine passport that we will need going forward...

Torvean · 11/05/2021 10:56

Thanks for posting that @Frazzled2207

oh! That's exciting. I haven't made contact with my GP surgery yet - from an admin pov they're pretty useless so not getting my hopes up. I have definitely read that for it to show on the app it needs to be an approved vaccine. That said I am not convinced that the app and passport are the same thing.

So Matt Hancock has confirmed this morning that you can use your NHS app to show your vaccine status when travelling abroad. If you don’t have a smartphone, then you can phone the NHS helpline on 119 and ask for a letter......

Frazzled2207 · 11/05/2021 11:52

i've finally got on the app. I can't see where it will show vaccine status but possibly the gp hasn't uploaded the info correctly. Will call them.

OP posts:
andadietcoke · 11/05/2021 12:23

There's a few different ones. I've tried My GP, Patient Access and the NHS app. None of them have my vaccine in - the last record is my flu jab from the autumn. I've emailed my GP.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 11/05/2021 12:35

I’m interested to see that so many of you are able to email your GP. We can’t do that, they say because it’s not a secure means of communication.
