A continuation of the thread for those of us taking part in the Vaccine trial.
Never had a thread continue to part 2 before so quite excited.

Congrats!

MrsHamlet · 10/02/2021 21:47

Thank you :)

Daftapath · 10/02/2021 22:25

@Frazzled2207 you'll be accused of being a troll next as you have gone onto a second thread GrinGrin

Torvean · 10/02/2021 22:32

I cant believe we have been doing this for about 6 months.

I'm so excited to be part of it. The nurse I had today said we all had the right to feel a little "special". Grin

She also said that the research team all fell Novovax is one of the best as proven so far. That's without the biasis.
Can't wait to hear who goes back first for the 3rd vacc/placebo.
Can't wait to do the diary again tad of irony

Frazzled2207 · 10/02/2021 22:47

@Torvean
I have never had remotely anything to put into the diary so am kind of worried about having to remember how to do so!

I'm excited too and i am permanently irritated by DH who is so 'meh' about it all.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 10/02/2021 22:54

I think it's all bloody marvellous and not meh at all!

I'm so glad to see it turning out so well and that my instincts after doing all my research, reading up on phase 1 and 2 trials etc. were right.

Team Novavax 👏👏👏

I feel like this is MY '5 minutes of fame' - I shared it on Facebook when it went public and had loads of comments and people thanking me.

It's up there with the good stuff I've done in my life Smile

ItsSnowJokes · 11/02/2021 06:13

Thanks for the new thread. I have also name changed lol.

Cooroo · 11/02/2021 09:07

There aren't many threads I watch but I'm glued to this for news!

Oh great. Some of my friends are/were horrified

Frazzled

I had no one say anything negative at all.

I do have one acquaintance whose a care worker, in her mid 50's who does this passive aggressive thing on FB...."don't keep going on about the vaccine because I'm not having it, I shouldn't have to keep explaining my reasons" - drives me mad.

She can't even explain why 🤷‍♀️ but other than her it's very positive!

I had quite a good reaction when I went public on facebook after the Novavax announcement. My proudest moment was when a high profile doctor told me I'd done a very important thing on twitter! 😊

My best friend has said all the right things, but her mum isn't as tactful and told me they all think I'm mad 😔

Frazzled2207 · 11/02/2021 12:31

@PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears
That's good to hear. Yeah the doc running our trial is in no doubt that we are doing a brilliant thing. It never occured to me tbh that I would be 'poisoned' or anything like that. I trusted the scientists from the beginning, when I first go involved several governments had pre-ordered the stuff and I thought I was getting a 50% chance of getting a vaccine which was totally a no-brainer. Of course it's now 100%. The worst case scenario for me was that it wouldn't work and I'd just have to get another vaccine when my turn came . Maybe I'm a bit naive to the risks, but they never felt significant.

OP posts:
PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 11/02/2021 12:48

I never considered it risky either. I read through the published P1&2 results which were mostly gobbledegook tbh 😂 but I read about several doctors participating themselves and they obviously understood much better than I did. If they were happy, I was happy.

Like so many other issues relating to the pandemic, we have to trust the scientists. When you get on a plane to Greece do you insist on flying yourself? No! You trust the pilot!

AVictoryProduct · 11/02/2021 16:35

Place marking. Thanks for the new thread!

andadietcoke · 11/02/2021 19:30

It's funny. I remember a lot of people saying 'ohhhh you're so brave, I couldn't have done that' but the risk really did feel very low.

Interestingly my DTs (7) may be taking part in a paeds version and my family members that were horrified at my participation are incredibly calm about the girls' potential involvement which I found incredible - amazing how attitudes have changed since last October.

Both my parents are being vaccinated tomorrow. I had a little cry when my mum texted me earlier, and I'm so grateful for the trial participants on the Pfizer and Oxford trials that went before us.

Frazzled2207 · 11/02/2021 20:32

@andadietcoke
ooh really? I have a 7 year old who'd be interested. Is this local?
Great about your parents. Mine had Pfizer a week ago. They say they will come and see us in a fortnight!

OP posts:
Torvean · 11/02/2021 21:09

That's really interesting about 7 year olds taking part.

I think they'll go over the diary if you have to do it. As it would mean 15 minutes in the room to check you're ok.

Some of my friends are like when this is all over youll be able to say you've be a big part of science but i don't feel I've done much.

Of course in the states this woman is documenting her " journey" and is in the news....

Vargas · 11/02/2021 22:52

I agree that attitudes have really changed since October. I got lots of 'omg are you sure you want to do this?' and 'wow you are so brave' when I first signed up, but now I have 2 friends who have signed up for the Janssen trial and another who is trying to. And now people say to me 'oh you're so lucky, you might have had a vaccine already!'.

So today I had my 3 month appointment. Interestingly they made me sign a new form, which says that they'd like me to come in for an unblinding appointment if I ask to be unblinded when invited for a normal vaccine. I then asked about the crossover, and the doc looked as if she's been asked this question a lot recently. She said that it hasn't been fully approved yet, but we will be informed when it has, which may be very soon. A bit different to what others on this thread have said. I'm in London, so not sure if different locations have different protocols.

Frazzled2207 · 11/02/2021 22:55

@Vargas
That’s interesting we were definitely told it was a done deal.
Also seems a bit different about unblinding- we can def just ring up no appointment needed.

OP posts:
andadietcoke · 12/02/2021 08:52

@vargas I wonder if they're just working with 'an abundance of caution' because it's not fully approved and they could be in a position where people don't go for a vaccine they've been offered because they want to stick with the trial, and then it doesn't get approved, or it gets delayed?

@Frazzled2207 I'll message you about the paeds trial.

QueenAnnesHat · 12/02/2021 14:47

I asked about the crossover trial at my appointment earlier this week. Was told that as my centre is only used for the trial 2 days a week (it's a vaccine hub the rest of the time) they weren't sure that they would be able to accommodate the 1000 extra appointments it would require. Also said that it would take a while for the relevant authorities to approve the crossover. Given my advanced age, it looks likely that there wouldn't be much of a gap between the start of the crossover trial and my being offered a deployed vaccine.

Vargas · 12/02/2021 17:44

@Frazzled2207 Yes, when the doctor said she had a new form for me to sign I nodded knowingly, assuming it would be about the crossover trial, but she didn't even mention it until I asked. She also emphasised how much they would like people on the trial to come in for an appointment before having any other vaccine so they can do a blood test, so if I hadn't read this thread I would have no idea that there were any other plans on the cards....

Torvean · 12/02/2021 23:45

I walked to the vaccine clinic with snow half way up my wellies. I had to resign a consent form as I'd signed a previous one x/y/2020 when it has to be 21- June - 2020 eg

Then i signed for another change in the study.

A lot of staff did not make it in , and some were leaving when i went in at 2pm. However they never called to cancel so I trecked in.

So im hoping im part of the crossover. They told me it was just waiting final confirmation from Novovaz.

. With vaccination/placebo starting at beginning of April.

Do you think we will need to be re-swabbed again? That was the worse bit 🤢

Daftapath · 13/02/2021 13:01

I think one thing to consider if any of us are offered another nhs vaccine, is that we wouldn't be fully vaccinated for over 3 months. At least if we can have novavax (and assuming we had the placebo last time), we would be completely vaccinated within 3 weeks of the first injection.
